Images[edit]

Hi! When you upload images, you don't have to use every section of the "aboutfile" template. You can just simply remove any sections you don't need.

Hello, Infyte. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/video files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

or

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Below the "aboutfile" template, make sure you add the correct categories for the image. The images you're uploading have to deal with Super Mario Party Jamboree, so add in below the template. Because these are images, they also shouldn't be categorized as characters and such. link:User:Sparks Sparks (talk) link:User:Sparks 16:52, June 21, 2024 (EDT)

Please do not AI-upscale images (or upscale images manually yourself, making them blurry) or poorly crop the images around the artwork; the quality just looks worse this way. Just crop the icon as is from the video, or (especially for the ones that are too small in the video) wait for the game to release to get the actual sprites.

Also, avoid adding file links to pages until they've actually been uploaded. Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 23:14, June 21, 2024 (EDT)

My bad guys. I was just trying to help out the wiki, and I didn’t realize my contributions would be frowned upon. I do kinda wish I got credit for my contributions that were kinda replaced my other people, but I’m not too upset. If you need anything, let me know. Thanks! User:DavidGamesYT/sig

Please review these messages if you intend to upload more images; your last upload of Pauline's icon was missing a category (and the image itself didn't need to be upscaled), and unused fields from the "aboutfile" template were not removed. Reminder[edit]

Please stop uploading images with bad transparency and not properly filling in file summaries on the Super Mario Wiki. This isn't a warning, and it's possible that you made a mistake by accident or without realizing it; this is simply a reminder for your information. If the action continues, then a warning will be issued. Thanks for reading and keep contributing.
If you feel this reminder was undeserved, you may appeal it.

It's possible then that you screenshot the video using your device's built-in screenshot function (which usually saves the image in a resolution larger than the video actually is), the video itself upscaled them, or whatever you used to crop the images inadvertently saved them as large images; regardless, the images were still significantly larger than what they should be for icons, and I don't know what you used to crop them but there were some smudges left over around the characters near the corners. I'd simply wait for the in-game icon assets to release rather than trying to make a "sprite" out of a screenshot, even if it's a placeholder. For saving screenshots the future, you should screencap the video directly (right-click the video in desktop mode and select "Copy video frame", or alternatively use a screenshot browser extension or download the video and use the screenshot tool on a video player). However, the reminder still stands for the other reasons listed as a result of the Luigi and Daisy artwork uploads.

Please also make sure to sign your comments with four tildes at the end: ~~~~ Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 04:50, September 14, 2024 (EDT)

Oh alright. I apologize for that. As long as I'm not gonna get banned or anything lol. In the future, I'll just directly upload the screenshots without removing the background. User:DavidGamesYT/sig 05:25, September 14, 2024 (EDT)

"upscaling"[edit]

You aren't being accused of upscaling images; however, the gameplay footage you are getting these from is upscaling them from their raw parameters, so there is upscaling happening somewhere along the line there. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:18, September 13, 2024 (EDT)

Jamboree[edit]

Hi, @DavidGamesYT. I am a patroller on the site. We have policies against uploading material from games before their official release dates. Please stop uploading them. - Nintendo101 (talk) 13:19, October 14, 2024 (EDT)

You can review this policy on MarioWiki:Spoilers. - Nintendo101 (talk) 13:20, October 14, 2024 (EDT)

Hi. I'm Sorry. I did not realize that. Thanks, David.

Hi, again. When you update a screenshot with a different type of image, make sure you also update its licensing information like so. - Nintendo101 (talk) 15:43, October 16, 2024 (EDT)

Gotcha! DavidGamesYT

One more thing. When you upload a wholly new file, make sure it has a category directory and licensing, like so. The category ensures image files are not lost on the site and that other users can find them when they need to edit articles. The licensing clarifies what type of image it is, and that it is being uploaded for illustrative purposes.
It's great that you took the initiative to add these images to the wiki, but I would appreciate if you add these other details in. You can review your previous uploads here. - Nintendo101 (talk) 17:45, October 16, 2024 (EDT)
I'm so sorry about that. Can you explain me how I add those details in after they've been uploaded? I'm sorry once again, I am new to this lol. infyteYT
No worries! You'll get the hang of it!
Mario reaction in Super Mario Party Jamboree.
You can include categories before you upload, inside the text field, via linking to them. I like to add after the aboutfile field. For instance, this is what I inputted in the field for a file, File:Blame it on the Crane - SMPJ.png, before the upload. Note the last line, this is how you categorize an image. Make sure the category exists first, otherwise you'll get a red link!

However, you can continue editing in case you did forget to add it, so make sure you edit the page.

Alright! I am just unsure how to go back and edit it after I have already uploaded it. When I click on the image there isn't an option to edit the description or anything. I would really appreciate some help lol infyteYT

Sure! It's easy. You edit it like any other page. I typically edit the summary to include this information. Mario (Santa)'s map icon from Mario Kart Tour Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 20:56, October 16, 2024 (EDT)

Also, categories for images are always "(game) images". Categories like "Super Mario Party Jamboree minigames" are for articles only. Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 08:22, October 18, 2024 (EDT)
