World 1-3 (Chapter 1-3 in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic; titled Have Courage!![1] or Cross the Waterfall![2]) is the third level of World 1 in Super Mario Bros. 2.
Layout[edit]
The player starts off in a grassy area with Snifits and Cherries. On the Semisolid Platform right before the first bridge, there are two tufts of grass, one of which contains a Magical Potion. In Subspace, the Mushroom is on the bridge. After the player has returned to Subcon, there is a Red Shyguy on the bridge. After crossing the bridge, the player will need to jump on some platforms. Trouters can be seen jumping from the pits. After that, the player can choose to jump on the falling platforms or the platforms. The former takes the player to a Semisolid Platform where there are five tufts of grass. The fifth tuft of glass pull out will be a Stop Watch. After that, the player has to jump on two falling platforms with Trouters jumping under them. After jumping on the falling platforms, the player will see five tufts of grass, two of which are guarded by Pink (Blue in the remakes) Shyguys. After two Ninjis and two Tweeters, the player can enter the castle. Upon entering the castle, the they will need to travel up to get to a Warp Door, avoiding Sparks and a Pink (Blue in the remakes) Shyguy. When the player opens the door, they will be lead to a room where the key needed is. The key is guarded by Phanto. After taking the key, the player should go to the bottom of the castle and open the locked Warp Door, avoiding enemies in the process. If the player is not careful, they may fall onto spikes which will hurt them. After unlocking the locked Warp Door and entering it, the player will arrive at a section of the level where they have to jump on platforms while avoiding getting hurt or falling into a pit. After doing so, the player will see a Crystal Ball to open the Mask Gate. After opening the Mask Gate, the player will need to use bombs to destroy some brick walls in order to face Mouser.
Hidden Exit[edit]
The level features a hidden Subspace Warp to World 4. Right before the castle, there will be a cluster of plants, one of which is a Magical Potion. The player must take the Magical Potion past the castle to a jar. Then player needs to use the Magical Potion to create a door; once through, they can enter the jar while still in Subspace to warp to World 4.
