Grape, Princess Peach: Showtime!

Spotlion[1] is the fourth Darkle boss appearing in Princess Peach: Showtime! as a boss in the level, Darkle Boss: Spotlion. It is one of the minions of Sour Bunch that appears on 4F after clearing the shows on said floor. Twenty-five Sparkle Gems are needed to open the door leading to the boss. Its name is a portmanteau of "spotlight" and "lion."

In the battle, Spotlion leaps between platforms and attacks by firing four Darkle orbs in four directions in a "+" shape. After two attacks, Spotlion will use Darkle Power to alter the layout of the battlefield, causing the ground to become uneven and cause ramps to be incorporated. It will then fire one orb at a time, but these orbs bounce off the terrain several times before disappearing. After a few orbs, the Darkle Power ends Spotlion will restart its attack pattern. Princess Peach and Stella must use Sparkle Power to cleanse the orbs shot out and send them back to Spotlion. Three orbs will cause Spotlion to break apart and reveal its Darkle Sphere. Like the other Darkle bosses, Spotlion is fought in three phases. In phase two, Spotlion is on a platform that moves rather than jumping to other platforms. It also gains a laser attack that bounces off the terrain and cannot be reflected. In phase three, Spotlion fires orbs in an "X" formation and can create mirror copies of itself that can also fire orbs. The real Spotlion has a reflection. Attacking a copy will simply cause it to vanish. Spotlion also gains a new attack where it appears with three copies. These copies will vanish before the real Spotlion lunges towards Princess Peach.

Upon defeat, the Darkle sphere explodes and its body disintegrates. As Peach and Stella exit the dark door, the dark door and strings blocking 5F disappears. Additionally, Peach can access the Kung Fu Rehearsal.

After clearing the game, Spotlion, as well as the other bosses, can be refought in order to earn more Sparkle Gems. Some of Spotlion's orbs have stripe patterns on them as well, but this is only a visual change. The conditions for the Sparkle Gems include:

  • Defeat Spotlion with only striped orbs.
  • Defeat Spotlion with nine or fewer returned orbs.
  • Win the fight without taking damage.

A dress with the style of Spotlion, known as the Spotlion Dress, can be bought from the shop after defeating the boss.
