An Intern Shroob is a smaller, light-colored Shroob with blue spots that rides on the back of a Shroobsworth in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. Intern Shroobs ride piggyback style, similar to how the Baby Mario Bros. hold on to their older counterparts. Intern Shroobs, and the Shroobsworths they ride, are found in Shroob Castle.

In a battle, an Intern Shroob aids a Shroobsworth by firing energy blasts from a cannon and by tossing dark purple meteors. For the cannon attack, the Intern Shroob is thrown into the air by the Shroobsworth. The target of the energy blast is determined by the Intern Shroob's orientation; if it is right-side up, the Intern Shroob shoots at Mario, whereas if it is upside-down, it targets Luigi. For the meteor attack, the meteor will be knocked back and forth between the bros. and the Shroob duo. If the Intern Shroob hits the meteor, it will go towards Mario, while the Shroobsworth will send the meteor at Luigi. The Shroobsworth also has a solo attack where he will try to hit the bros. with his cane; he will throw his Intern Shroob up to the Top Screen before doing this. While in the air, the Intern Shroob will rapidly move its arms to slow its fall in a manner reminiscent of a Flutter Jump.

Once the Shroobsworth is defeated, the Intern Shroob knocks the Shroobsworth away and takes his place (just like when an adult Mario brother falls and his younger self takes his place). The Intern Shroob will not attack the bros. alone, and will wait a turn before using a 1-Up Mushroom with Shroob-like eyes to revive the Shroobsworth. Once revived, the Intern Shroob gets back on the Shroobsworth and they continue the battle as a team. Intern Shroobs cannot be damaged while their master is still active.
