::::I actually think this and the "Jump" special attack are split-viable because they're in-battle moves that cost FP; in other words, "Fire Orb" (Fireball) and its variants are spells that allow Mario to shoot several fireballs at once, which is fairly rare outside of Fire Mario and Super Smash Bros. I'm somewhat neutral on this one, though, because of the game's muddied localization choices, but thought that angle was worth bringing up. Turning this into a proposal. It seems inconsistent to have one as its own article and the other not, given that they represent Mario's most basic special moves. For what it's worth, the game describes the fireballs that Mario throws in this state as "fire orbs", so I do lean towards merging. Whichever one passes, it should resolve the inconsistency.

The main concern we have is how we'll go about the merge itself, since this does feel like a little bit too much information to just consolidate willy-nilly. To be fair, the infobox for SMRPG moves is pretty large, but it does seem a little difficult to compress the information on this move into the article elegantly, without also nixing something important. (We bring this up mostly because the Jump move that got mentioned is... Actually in a pretty sorry state, as the article doesn't mention stuff like base damage or damage type or what-have-you.)
Also, we're operating under the assumption Super Flame and Ultra Flame will remain split, which does kinda leave this... A little more confusing, right? Not that keeping those split is bad--on the contrary, it'd probably be more awkward if those were all lumped in to the Fireball article--but it does make the complete lack of in-depth coverage of the moves much more prominent when the upgraded versions get entire infoboxes, yet the Jump move doesn't, and there's a non-zero chance the Fireball move also gets its nixed.
Are we thinking too much about this? Yes. Are we going to ask anyways just to cover all the bases? Also yes. ~Camwood777 (talk) 14:35, April 11, 2023 (EDT)

Merge with Fireball[edit]

Why should this be merged with Fireball? I'm seeing a Japanese name being a more generic "fireball", but this one does seem like a more specific named move that shoots fireballs. I don't follow Mario RPG naming conventions closely, however; is there some sort of localization goof or meaningful context I'm not catching? Mario (Santa)'s map icon from Mario Kart Tour Mario-HOHO! Because it's a generic fireball move that is analogous to the game's basic "jump" special move. Also, the game's "flowers" which allow it seem to be a more broad Fire Flower stand-in (compare them to early artwork of Fire Flowers). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:19, June 8, 2022 (EDT)
I hear there's also the highly questionable localization. Mario (Santa)'s map icon from Mario Kart Tour Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 20:26, June 8, 2022 (EDT)

I actually think this and the "Jump" special attack are split-viable because they're in-battle moves that cost FP; in other words, "Fire Orb" (Fireball) and its variants are spells that allow Mario to shoot several fireballs at once, which is fairly rare outside of Fire Mario and Super Smash Bros. Merge "Fire Orb" with "Fireball"[edit]

 1. LinkTheLefty (talk) My preference.
 2. Tails777 (talk) This feels like the most suitable idea. I don't see us with separate articles for jumping in the Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi games.
 3. Swallow (talk) Per proposal
 4. Somethingone (talk) Per proposal
 5. 7feetunder (talk) Most logical choice; we don't split Bro Flower from Fire Flower.
 6. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - per
 7. Arend (talk) Super Mario RPG had relocalized plenty of names for characters and items with already established names (e.g. "Goby" for "Cheep Cheep"). Per proposal

Split "Jump (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars)" from "Jump"[edit]

Comments[edit]
