== References == | |||
Hello, I'm an occasional reader here, though I edit on other NIWA wikis. I wanted to share some more references I noticed in the film that aren't documented on this page so I made an account. Since my account is new anyways, I can't edit the page (not yet autoconfirmed) so I thought I'd put them here.
Brooklyn is full of references to NES games. Many are there already, but some more are that there's
* a pharmacy with Dr. Mario pills
* a fancy restaurant called ''Chasse au Canard'' (French for "Duck Hunt" and it has the duck sprite)
* the Polar Bear from ''[[Ice Climber]]'' is on the sign for a popsicle store and on a poster that says "Cool" in Mario's bedroom
* Probably the most obscure one I saw, a sign for Diskun of all things (mascot for the [[Famicom Disk System]])
* not a reference to the NES, but there was a store with the SUNSHINE part of the ''[[Super Mario Sunshine]]'' logo
Most of the musical references were also covered but some more:
* One of the introductory segues in the Mushroom Kingdom used the [[Fossil Falls]] leitmotif from ''[[Super Mario Odyssey]]''.
* [[Captain Toad]]'s theme from ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'' and his later appearances is used as a leitmotif for the specific Toad who accompanies Mario, including when he comes up in the credits
* When they are building the karts, it uses some menu music from ''[[Mario Kart 8]]''. The initial kart scene uses the Mario Circuit music from the same game, and then the [[Rainbow Road]] scene has one of the themes from that course, but I don't recall from which game it was.
* When Mario gets the [[Super Leaf]], the "Athletic" theme from ''[[Super Mario Bros. 3]]'' is used
* I don't remember exactly when, but at one point there was the frequent SMB1 [[Ground Theme (Super Mario Bros.)|Ground Theme]] and then the pickup of SMB2's only to fakeout into the classic [[Underground Theme]].
* During the wedding setup, there was an arrangement of the [[Ending BGM]] from the first game.
Other stuff: | |||
* The sewer Mario and Luigi go into has a sign saying "1-2" that is shown while the underground leitmotif plays
* One of the TVs has something like "reports of crabs in sewers" (i.e., [[Sidestepper]]s)
* Jumpman is apparently a separate guy who lives in Brooklyn, who plays an arcade game about himself(?) that's really just Donkey Kong
* I'm ''pretty sure'' I saw [[Lanky Kong]] in the background but it might have just been someone similar.
Anyways, though I don't know how much I'll end up editing here, I hope this is useful information. [[User:Chubby Bub|Chubby Bub]] ([[User talk:Chubby Bub|talk]]) 04:05, April 6, 2023 (EDT)

== Bomber Bill whimpering ==
When [[Tanooki Mario]] tail whips the [[Bomber Bill]]'s eye, it whimpers in a fashion vaguely similar to how [[Chain Chomp]]s and [[Chain Chomplet]]s whimper in certain games like [[Super Mario Sunshine]] and [[Super Mario Odyssey]], though the sounds are not exactly the same. Does anyone recognize this sound effect and where it might have originated from or if it is a completely original sound effect? == Characters, Enemies, Blocks, Items, Objects, Transformations, and more ==
Does anyone else think that, as more images start rolling in from [[The Super Mario Bros. Movie]] it would be a good idea to have more elaborate "Cast List" and "Items and objects" sections, like those used on the Wiki pages for the [[Super Mario (series)|Super Mario]] games? Tables could be added with pictures and descriptions of the functions and roles of characters, enemies, blocks, items, objects, transformations, etc. that appear in the film. [[User:Jumbo Ray|Jumbo Ray]] ([[User talk:Jumbo Ray|talk]]) 01:42, April 12, 2023 (EDT)
I think [[Koopa General]] should be in character list. He's the most important Bowser's soldier and second most important Bowser's assisant after Kamek. {{unsigned|Sarewal}}
== Wave Race Reference to Add ==
During the news report on the flooding in Brooklyn's Streets, the ticker tape reads that an "R. Hayami" has won this year's "Wave Race". I've seen the movie twice, and while I missed it the first time, it was mentioned on TV Tropes, so I went in my second viewing looking for it. Sure enough, it was visible. Anyone who can verify its validity, please add this to the references to other media section.

== Plot == | |||
There’s been a error in the plot of the film. In the plot, it said that Peach explains to Mario about the abundance of ? Blocks in the worlds they are exploring, saying that they are filled with all kinds of items that can give him the upper hand against potential oppressors. But she already explains it in the training course. Along their travels, Peach explains to Mario that she doesn’t know where she comes from. All she knows is that she came to the Mushroom Kingdom as Baby Peach and grew up there as an princesss. == Film plot article ==
I kinda already said this before, but I will add it here. The plot section of this page is very long and detailed. How would a separate article involving the film's plot work in this case? We also have a lot of screenshots in the film's gallery, which is partly what prompted me to make this proposal and give those screenshots better use beyond being a gallery photo. After all, the Mario Bros. say "neatness counts" and perhaps we can find a solution to avoid all the clutter. {{User:Marino13/sig}} 17:07, May 6, 2023 (EDT)
:While this does sound like a good idea on paper, it doesn't really work in the sense that we don't do things like that on the Super Mario Wiki. Besides, the plot isn't ''that'' long so the best thing we could do is make the plot look neater. '''''Yours truly, Princess Toadstoo-- I mean [[User:NintendoFan08|NintendoFan08]].''''' 12:17, May 23, 2023 (EDT)
::Now that I have revisited the article again since that message, I see the plot has been elaborated and expanded even further. While I do support your idea, I still find it excessively long and creating a plot page for the film will work. You just need to look at various other examples. You can have the long portion, and then the summarized plot for this page. Remember, "neatness counts". {{User:Marino13/sig}} 17:18, September 10, 2023 (EDT)
== Like father and son ==
There’s something strange about cranky and Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong was Cranky’s son I I thought Donkey Kong Junior would be cranky’s son
And Donkey Kong’s Father was Donkey Kong Jr.
What’s up with that? {{unsigned|70.131.175.89}}
Officially, Cranky is Junior's father, and (most prominently) [modern] DK's grandfather. In the movie, they just cut the middle man for simplicity, and not to follow any canon (a bit like Brooklyn, even tho the recent games are pretty clear that the Marios were always part of the "Mushroom World"). Although, I want to point out that in the Italian version of the two books (Official Storybook and Mario's Big Adventure), DK is referred to as Cranky's grandson (I presume due to the movie material not revealing yet their relationship, so the translator went with the game version). {{User:Mariuigi_Khed/sig}} 19:29, May 7, 2023 (EDT)
Eh, I say invoke the multiverse. In the games, Cranky Kong is DK's grandfather or father, depending on the source. In the 2023 movie, Cranky Kong is DK's father. The games are in 1 or more universes. The 2023 movie is in at least 1 universe. BUT, The games and movies are not connected exept that they are in the Mario multiverse. {{User|SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA)}} 10:19, May 23, 2023 (CST)

== Blue Mushrooms == | |||
In The Wiki Page for The Super Mario Bros Movie. In The Differences to The Games Section, They State that Mini Mushrooms are Considered Blue Mushrooms. '''Spoiler Alert In This Following Sentence.''' After Mario and Luigi Defeat Bowser via the Super Star and Princess Peach Gives Bowser a Mini Mushroom, Donkey Kong States That Bowser got the Blue One, Referring to a Mini Mushroom. '''Spoiler's End Here, ''' As This Is the Only the Time Movie States the "States" The Mushrooms Name, This Could Mean Donkey Kong Doesn't Know the Name of The Mushroom. Or The Actual Name of the Mushroom Are Blue Mushrooms. And Also, Blue Shells Are Named Blue Shells in the Mario Series, Not Spiny Shells, Though I Might Be Wrong. Posted 20:12 On 6/5/2023. '''Also, I Don't Know My ID So I Can't Write A Signature.''' {{unsigned|70.162.85.156}}
:First, the incorrect use of capitalization is making it difficult to comprehend what you're saying, so I'll try to respond to the best of my ability. I don't think DK's knowledge or lack of thereof of the name of the Mushroom is relevant information to mention. Finally, [[Spiny Shell (blue)|Spiny Shell]] is a consistently established name in the series, though "Blue Shell" is a very common colloquial use of the term; additionally there are named [[Blue Shell]]s but they're blue-colored Koopa Shells that range from a a simple color (''Super Mario World'') to a wearable powerup (''New Super Mario Bros.'') to freeze-inducing projectiles (''Mario Strikers''). The Koopa General yells "Blue Shell" in reference to the colloquial use; i.e. it's more easily understood by the audience. {{User:Mario/sig}} 20:07, June 8, 2023 (EDT)

Should we mention in the "References in Later Media" section that in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Fire Peach wears her hair down instead of in a ponytail like in the movie? I'm not sure that it's necessary, because it's already mentioned on the Super Mario Bros. Wonder page, but I was just wondering. -- [[User:FanOfRosalina2007|FanOfRosalina2007]] ([[User talk:FanOfRosalina2007|talk]]) 23:14, November 12, 2023 (EST)

::The information appears to be removed.[https://www.mariowiki.com/index.php?title=The_Super_Mario_Bros._Movie&diff=4054579&oldid=4054575] In Smash Ultimate, Peach has an alternate recolor that resembles her fire form, and she wears her hair down. {{User:Mario/sig}} 01:40, November 19, 2023 (EST)
:::Yeah, but it's an alternate costume. It's not really Fire Peach, the costume was just inspired by Fire Peach. She can't throw fireballs in the costume. I play Smash Ultimate, and she actually can't throw fireballs no matter what her costume is. It's not in her moveset. And I was talking about Super Mario Bros. Wonder, where she wears her hair down in her Fire form. I can add the Smash Ultimate information if you want, but in all due respect, I don't think it really qualifies as Fire Peach. Also, why did Sdman213 remove my part about Super Mario Bros. Wonder? It's real information, and she does wear her hair down in that form in the game. But just tell me what to do and I'll do it. I'm new, so I don't really have experience in editing. -- {{User:FanOfRosalina2007/sig}} 12:01, November 19, 2023 (EST)
::::Smash Ultimate isn't shy about some model alterations to fit alternate colors though. But I also don't think Smash Ultimate really bothered tying Peach's hair back compared to editing Pikachu's tail for the female Pikachu alts. That being said, I don't think the hair style is a reference to the movie but I guess it's worth noting in the [[Fire Mario]] page. {{User:Mario/sig}} 17:46, November 19, 2023 (EST)
:::::I agree with you. The alternate costume is not a movie reference (not purposefully, anyway) because Smash Ultimate was released before the movie was. We could put it in the Fire Mario page if you think it's necessary, but in all due respect, I don't think we should add this particular trivia to The Super Mario Bros. Movie's page. Also, may I re-add my information about Fire Peach in Super Mario Bros. Wonder that was removed? It is a movie reference, after all. If you say yes, I'll add it back in, but if it's removed again, I won't re-add it again. I don't want to start an edit war, especially because I'm new. What are your thoughts? -- {{User:FanOfRosalina2007/sig}} 13:39, November 20, 2023 (EST)
::::::I don't think Fire Peach's hair in Wonder is a reference to Fire Peach in the movie. {{User:Mario/sig}} 14:26, November 21, 2023 (EST)
:::::::Oh, sorry. SMBW's page said that it was a reference the last time I checked, but it's been removed by the same person who removed my edit. In that case, I won't add anything. -- {{User:FanOfRosalina2007/sig}} 14:35, November 21, 2023 (EST)
== Trivia == | |||
Hi! I was watching the movie today and I noticed something that was different from the games. When Mario first tries the Training Course, he falls through brick blocks into the water. When he hits the water, he shrinks from Super Mario to Small Mario, even though he didn't hit a Cheep Cheep or anything else that would hurt him. Peach then remarks, "Oh, yeah!...if you get hit, you lose the power," even though Mario didn't hit an enemy. It doesn't make any sense. Can I add this to the "Differences from the Games" section? -- {{User:FanOfRosalina2007/sig}} 13:51, November 20, 2023 (EST)
:Well, not really. Even if movies taught us otherwise, diving from a big height in water is still dangerous, if not deadly (imagine diving belly first, it would hurt even from small heights). This is the same logic. Also, it can be taken as the idea of falling into a pit or, in ''Super Mario Bros.'' (''All-Stars'' version) into a water body from the surface (which wasn't swimmable at the time): losing a life and your power up. {{User:Mariuigi_Khed/sig}} 17:28, November 20, 2023 (EST)
::I was just thinking that because it's different from how falling into water (even from great heights) acts in the games, we could put it there. But if you don't want me to, I won't. Thanks! -- {{User:FanOfRosalina2007/sig}} 14:02, November 21, 2023 (EST)
== Concerning an extended scene ==
In many of the TV spots for the movie, one of the scenes that played was when Mario, Peach, and Toad were walking across the bridge with the Cheep Cheeps. As in the movie, a Cheep Cheep lands on Mario's face. However, in the TV spots, this is extended out to include Peach pulling the Cheep Cheep off Mario's face, with the Cheep Cheep then landing on Toad's head instead. This version of the scene was cut from the movie. Should we mention this? Or, more importantly, did anyone else notice this oddity? -- {{User:FanOfRosalina2007/sig}} 23:07, February 6, 2024 (EST)

The "References to other media" section is one of the longest sections on this article, and takes up a tremendous amount of space. Not to mention, all of the information is very cramped together and is very hard to read and navigate. That is why I'm proposing that the section should be moved into its own article. [[User:RetroNintendo2008/TSMBM references|I have made a work-of-concept article on my sandbox]] to give an idea of what a more ideal method would look like. The work-of-concept sorts each piece of media via sections, with each individual reference being organised by bullet points, complete with images from [[Gallery:The Super Mario Bros. Should this proposal be accepted, the work-of-concept will be moved into the mainspace and the "References to other media" section will be replaced with a {{[[Template:Main|main]]<nowiki>}}</nowiki> link. {{User:RetroNintendo2008/sig}} 11:24, August 6, 2024 (EDT)

== Mario and Luigi’s… sibling? ==
So, I’m fluent in Portuguese and I recently watched the Mario Movie in English with Portuguese subtitles and in the part when [[Mario]] and [[Luigi]] are entering their home, the subtitles say:
“-Mãe, fizeste isto?<br>-Saiu bem, não saiu?<br>-Porque não fazes assim?”
Here’s the translation:
“-Mom, did you do this?<br>-Turned out good, didn’t it?<br>-Why don’t you do it like this?”
So, the “Turned out good” sounded like [[Mama Mario|Mama]], and someone saying mom… didn’t make sense. As far as we know, Mama is the only mother in the family in the movie. So, the third Mario brother (presumably the [[Mario and Luigi's niece|niece]]’s father (it was a guy talking)) was probably in the kitchen, with Mama, and never came out during dinner. And the subtitles weren’t auto-generated. They were made by someone. So, I dunno, just, like, mention this in the main article, or something. [[User:Weegie baby|Weegie baby]] ([[User talk:Weegie baby|talk]]) 05:25, December 8, 2024 (EST)
:The English subtitles for my version (Amazon Prime) claims [[Uncle Arthur|Arthur]] is the one talking to mom.
::“Arthur: Ma, did you make these?<br>Mom: Ah, good batch, eh?<br>Arthur: Why don’t you make it like this?”
:It's weird that he would call his sister-in-law his mother. It's likely is that it was from an earlier version of the script that was negligently left unchanged when the family relations were different. I think the niece was suppose to be a first cousin at some point.--[[User:Platform|Platform]] ([[User talk:Platform|talk]]) 06:50, December 8, 2024 (EST)
::Ok. [[User:Weegie baby|Weegie baby]] ([[User talk:Weegie baby|talk]]) 07:37, December 8, 2024 (EST)
:::Wait, I just realised Mama’s name is Mama Mia Mario, first name Mama. If so, Arthur was just using a nickname or something. {{User:Weegie baby/sig}} 08:22, December 8, 2024 (EST)
::::No, first name is Mia, "Mama" is just a nickname to make a "Mamma mia" joke. BUT... being Italian, I can safely say it's not unusual to refer to someone with their "family role" even if it's incorrect with their point of view (example, a parent calling his own father/father-in-law "grandpa"): Mia might be Arthur's sister-in-law, but since she is mostly referred as "Mama" by her kids, he would use the same name, despite actually being siblings in-laws. Also, we do know "Mama" and "Papa" are actual nicknames (again, to make a "Mamma Mia" joke out of their names), so it's safe to say it's that in the Portuguese subtitles. --{{User:Mariuigi_Khed/sig}} 10:04, December 8, 2024 (EST)
:::::EXCUSE ME?!?!?! SINCE WHEN IS MAMA'S NAME "MIA"?!?!?! Mama’s first name is Mama. Just accept it. {{User:Weegie baby/sig}} 13:59, December 8, 2024 (EST)
::::::Mama isn't a name anywhere, it's a family role; Mia is an actual name; and Mario we know it's the surname (which, I can confirm, it's also a real-life surname here in Italy). Full (legal) name: Mia Rigassi Mario, aka Mama Mia Mario ("get it? "Mammamia"?"). It's not a matter of accepting it: it's a logical reasoning. Nothing forbids me from being wrong, of course, but with what we know now, "Mama" definitely sounds like a nickname, not the first name. I mean... I doubt Grandma and Grampa Rigassi used the Smurf logic by giving her a name that would be fitting for her role. With ''your'' logic, [[Aunt Luigeena|Luigeena]]'s first name is "Aunt". {{User:Mariuigi_Khed/sig}} 06:30, December 9, 2024 (EST)
:::::::With my logic, Luigeena's first name isn't aunt. But Mama's name is Mama Mia Mario. Full name. If Luigeena's infobox said "Full name: Aunt Luigeena", I'd likely thik her first name is Aunt, but since it doesn't say that, I don't. And Mama's maiden name isn't in her name anymore. Last year, I put "Mama Mia Rigassi Mario" on her infobox and Mario jc deleted it. And since you're itallian, tell me: doesn't Mia mean "Mine" (as in "That cake is mine" for example)? {{User:Weegie baby/sig}} 09:12, December 9, 2024 (EST)
::::::::Possibly because Rigassi is only canon in the show: the games have officially never revealed her maiden name, so we can't actually put it as her (official) full name. Better example to make is... [[Tails]]: everyone calls him "Tails" despite being a nickname and his full name being "Miles Prower", or [[Dr. Eggman]]. With the same logic, "Mama Mia" has become her most used/known name, despite "Mama" being pretty obviously a nickname. Yeah, "mia" is also the Italian "my"/"mine" in feminine form, but it is also a given name in Latin-derived languages. Words as names aren't news in any languages: "Aurora" (sunrise), "Dawn" (sunset), "Faith"/"Hope" ('nuff said), "Celeste" (sky-blue), "Pine" (a litteral tree), "Ash" (cinder)... Pio (Papa Mario's name), per se, it is also the Italian onomatopoeia for the chick's chirping, and is also the Italian word for "pious", but doesn't negate its nature as an Italian given male name, just like Mia. But "Mama" is... not one of these cases: it means "Mom", it's just a word said in an Italian-ish way for a pun, like most nicknames tend to do. Most definitely not a given name. {{User:Mariuigi_Khed/sig}} 12:45, December 9, 2024 (EST)
:::::::::Ok. But now that you're "talking", I'm actually starting to doubt if "Mama" is Mama's name or not. And if you can answer this well, I'll believe that "Mia" is her name: the Mario series has weird names. "Midbus", "Kamek", "Bowser", etc. And even humans: Peach, {{hover|[[Kid]]|The name of this subject isn't conjectural and has been officially confirmed}}, 5-Volt, etc. So, explain it. {{User:Weegie baby/sig}} 15:44, December 9, 2024 (EST)
::::::::::Simple: the Marios were originally created as people from a real-life location ([[New York]]) with roots from a real-life place ([[Italy]]), before retconing in ''[[Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island]]'' that they are actually native from the [[Mushroom Kingdom]] and that the "New York" they were talking about in previous games was either [[New Donk City]], [[Big Ape City]] and/or [[Big-City]]. Before that, of course the "Real World humans" (such as Stanley) would have normal realistic names, while the "aliens of the Mushroom World" (such as Peach Toadstool) would have unusual/fantastical names, which most of them derives from a Japanese rework of actual names or from real-life names (there are people called "Peaches" and I do know that "Bowser" is a pet-name for dogs and we do know a guy that has "Bowser" as a [[Doug Bowser|surname]]). {{User:Mariuigi_Khed/sig}} 18:25, December 9, 2024 (EST)
:::::::::::Ok. Peace ✌️. ''vanishes'' {{User:Weegie baby/sig}} 07:21, December 10, 2024 (EST)
{{@|Weegie baby}} I think you're talking this "Mama Mia Mario is her full name" thing a bit too literally. I think it'd make more sense to treat the "Mama" part as a ''title'' rather than as her first name (y'know, because you tend to call your own parents things such as "mama", "papa", "mom", "dad", "mum", "pops", etc, rather than their actual first name). It's like how Peach's full name is "Princess Peach Toadstool"; "Princess" is her title. If we're treating the "Mama" in Mama Mia Mario's name as her actual first name ''instead'' of a title, then by that logic, Peach's first name should be "Princess" instead. {{User:Arend/sig}} 15:52, December 9, 2024 (EST) |

Article title[edit]
Is the name "Untitled Mario Film" used elsewhere or is it a conjectural name? If the latter, should we put a conjecture template on it? Nightwicked Bowser 16:11, September 24, 2021 (EDT)
- It's not really being used as a proper name, it's just the most accurate description we have for the subject. I wouldn't necessarily call this "conjectural". -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 16:56, September 24, 2021 (EDT)
- Yeah. "Untitled Mario movie" does not indulge in guesses, so I think marking it as conjectural would seem a little weird. By that token, though, shouldn't the similarly descriptive titles we give other subjects in the absence of official sources be exempt from that template as well? Where do we draw a hard line? -- KOOPA CON CARNE 17:29, September 24, 2021 (EDT)

Move[edit]
Shouldn't this be moved to Super Mario Bros. (Film 2023) because in Nintendo's most recent tweet about the movie (the one about it getting delayed) they call it the Super Mario Bros. Film and the Mario Movie from 1993 could be moved to Super Mario Bros. (Film 1993) and just the page Super Mario Bros. (Film) could be moved to Super Mario Bros. (Film) (disambiguation). Okay I've understood this before but now we pretty much have to. The Movie is under the name "Super Mario Bros. (2023)* on Roku TV search. It's tags read "Animated | Comedy | Adventure". It has the placeholder Roku image on it and the description reads "The further adventures of Mario and Luigi." This should be added to the article. I'manumber1 (talk) 18:28, June 1, 2022 (EDT)
Toys[edit]

Confirmed title?[edit]
According to tomorrow's Nintendo Direct presentation, the video's title and thumbnail states the title "The Super Mario Bros. Movie". This is most likely the film's confirmed title, as Nintendo has not referred to it as this in the past. --NintendoFan08 (talk) 11:50, October 6, 2022 (EDT)
- Actually, it's since the time we discovered that Spike was voiced by Maniscalco that we know the title: he said "Super Mario Brothers movie". But let's wait till the actual title is published, since it might be just "Super Mario Bros." which will push us to fix all the links for the previous movie. -- Mariuigi Khed 16:06, October 5, 2022 (EDT)
- It's likely just the name of the presentation, since the official Universal page still labels it as untitled. Mario JC 07:35, October 6, 2022 (EDT)
it's been leaked, it is called The Super Mario Bros. Movie, there's a calender leaked and a logo was included with it. - YoYo (Talk) 11:40, October 6, 2022 (EDT)
- I wouldn't fully rely on leaks. There's supposed to be a presentation today so hopefully we'll have a proper title after that. Nightwicked Bowser 11:47, October 6, 2022 (EDT)
- I'd argue that the logo leak is definitely credible as a leak, but I don't think we should move the article now. No official source has come out for the movie's title yet. -- PanchamBro (talk • contributions) 13:20, October 6, 2022 (EDT)
The presentation is in a few hours so I think we should just wait until the name is official revealed in that. --Killer Moth (talk) 12:18, October 6, 2022 (EDT)

Question about the "Foreign dubs" section[edit]
It's written "The cast list for the dubs has not yet been released". You mean we'll have to list also the foreign dubs VAs? If yes, why did we not do the same in other medias' pages (or at the very list in their own staff list pages)? -- Mariuigi Khed 09:17, October 7, 2022 (EDT)
- In my opinion they should be listed on the other ones just no one has done that yet. Though the other cast lists might be best on their own page since it would become really big --Zachruff (talk) 10:11, October 7, 2022 (EDT)
- Well, there would be just the dubbers and the dubbing directors to add. The animated series didn't have many dubbings, so it's safe to assume it would be easier, but I'll admit we should go for something like List of Power Moon names in other languages, that got its own page having to deal with the translations, but we also have stuff like WarioWare Gold that has the foreign cast as well. If we get more "ok"s, I'll gladly start to add our share of Italian dubbers and dubbing directors. -- Mariuigi Khed 10:24, October 7, 2022 (EDT)

Trivia[edit]
- When Kamek appears, little symbols similar to the ones he makes in the game can be seen by zooming in.
- After Bowser's last appearance and before Mario's first appearance in the teaser trailer, the start of the intro from The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! plays.
- Before Mario touches a blue mushroom that Toad is hiding behind, a sound effect made by a Strollin' Stu from Super Mario Sunshine can be heard, although the sound is very faint.
- During the scene where the penguins are fighting back against Bowser and the snowball from their catapult hits a Koopa Troopa, next to the knocked out Koopa Troopa is one wearing a blue shell and amour with spikes referencing the Spiny Shell from the Mario Kart series.
- A fortress can be seen in the background as Mario looks around after landing in the Mushroom Kingdom.
- The classic Warp Pipe sound effect plays when Mario is shot out of the green Warp Pipe for the first time.
- The IMDb page for the film incorrectly lists it as “Super Mario Bros.: The Movie”.

- About the 2nd one: isn't more simply the Super Mario Bros.'s main theme? I don't hear a keyboard playing those notes, I hear 8bit
About the 4th one: we already noticed it and pointed it out multiple times in the gallery and the Spiny Shell page. -- Mariuigi Khed 12:20, October 9, 2022 (EDT)
- In the trailer(the official one, not the teaser), you can hear an arrangement of part of the SMB1 ground theme at the end. SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 15:33, December 19, 2022 (CST)
Eric Bauza in the cast?[edit]
According to the The Super Mario Bros. Movie article on Wikipedia, Eric Bauza is in the cast for the film, although it is currently unknown which character he is playing. NintendoFan08 (talk) 08:00, October 8, 2022 (EDT)
- We already listed Bauza in the cast, since in his twitter he hinted his presence and that he was the trembling Koopa in the teaser. -- Mariuigi Khed 12:22, October 9, 2022 (EDT)

- It's plausible they could appear, we yet have to see many of the characters like Spike, Lumalee and Pauline, but I would take this with a grain of salt: maybe they're just performing to be fitting for Bowser's parade cart: not only that, but the Mario, Bowser and Piranha Plant on the cart are clearly the ones from the games, not the movie: look at the Piranha's stem not being life-like or Bowser's shoulders not being gradient colorized. -- Mariuigi Khed 03:39, March 1, 2023 (EST)

References[edit]
Hello, I'm an occasional reader here, though I edit on other NIWA wikis. I wanted to share some more references I noticed in the film that aren't documented on this page so I made an account. Since my account is new anyways, I can't edit the page (not yet autoconfirmed) so I thought I'd put them here.
Brooklyn is full of references to NES games. Many are there already, but some more are that there's
- a pharmacy with Dr. Mario pills
- a fancy restaurant called Chasse au Canard (French for "Duck Hunt" and it has the duck sprite)
- the Polar Bear from Ice Climber is on the sign for a popsicle store and on a poster that says "Cool" in Mario's bedroom
- Probably the most obscure one I saw, a sign for Diskun of all things (mascot for the Famicom Disk System)
- not a reference to the NES, but there was a store with the SUNSHINE part of the Super Mario Sunshine logo
Most of the musical references were also covered but some more:
- One of the introductory segues in the Mushroom Kingdom used the Fossil Falls leitmotif from Super Mario Odyssey.
- Captain Toad's theme from Super Mario Galaxy and his later appearances is used as a leitmotif for the specific Toad who accompanies Mario, including when he comes up in the credits
- When they are building the karts, it uses some menu music from Mario Kart 8. The initial kart scene uses the Mario Circuit music from the same game, and then the Rainbow Road scene has one of the themes from that course, but I don't recall from which game it was.
- When Mario gets the Super Leaf, the "Athletic" theme from Super Mario Bros. 3 is used
- I don't remember exactly when, but at one point there was the frequent SMB1 Ground Theme and then the pickup of SMB2's only to fakeout into the classic Underground Theme.
- During the wedding setup, there was an arrangement of the Ending BGM from the first game.
Other stuff:
- The sewer Mario and Luigi go into has a sign saying "1-2" that is shown while the underground leitmotif plays
- One of the TVs has something like "reports of crabs in sewers" (i.e., Sidesteppers)
- Jumpman is apparently a separate guy who lives in Brooklyn, who plays an arcade game about himself(?) that's really just Donkey Kong
- I'm pretty sure I saw Lanky Kong in the background but it might have just been someone similar.
Anyways, though I don't know how much I'll end up editing here, I hope this is useful information. Chubby Bub (talk) 04:05, April 6, 2023 (EDT)
Co-Directors[edit]
I just found out that the film was co-directed by two workers from Illumination. Pierre Leduc and Fabien Polack. They helped Aaron and Michael with the film. We should credit them as well. Bmaster2020 (talk) 20:08, April 6, 2023 (EDT)

Bomber Bill whimpering[edit]
When Tanooki Mario tail whips the Bomber Bill's eye, it whimpers in a fashion vaguely similar to how Chain Chomps and Chain Chomplets whimper in certain games like Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Odyssey, though the sounds are not exactly the same. Does anyone recognize this sound effect and where it might have originated from or if it is a completely original sound effect? Jumbo Ray (talk) 01:23, April 12, 2023 (EDT)
Characters, Enemies, Blocks, Items, Objects, Transformations, and more[edit]
Does anyone else think that, as more images start rolling in from The Super Mario Bros. Movie it would be a good idea to have more elaborate "Cast List" and "Items and objects" sections, like those used on the Wiki pages for the Super Mario games? Tables could be added with pictures and descriptions of the functions and roles of characters, enemies, blocks, items, objects, transformations, etc. that appear in the film. Jumbo Ray (talk) 01:42, April 12, 2023 (EDT)
I think Koopa General should be in character list. He's the most important Bowser's soldier and second most important Bowser's assisant after Kamek.

Wave Race Reference to Add[edit]
During the news report on the flooding in Brooklyn's Streets, the ticker tape reads that an "R. Hayami" has won this year's "Wave Race". I've seen the movie twice, and while I missed it the first time, it was mentioned on TV Tropes, so I went in my second viewing looking for it. Sure enough, it was visible. Anyone who can verify its validity, please add this to the references to other media section.

Plot[edit]
There’s been a error in the plot of the film. In the plot, it said that Peach explains to Mario about the abundance of ? Blocks in the worlds they are exploring, saying that they are filled with all kinds of items that can give him the upper hand against potential oppressors. But she already explains it in the training course. Along their travels, Peach explains to Mario that she doesn’t know where she comes from. All she knows is that she came to the Mushroom Kingdom as Baby Peach and grew up there as an princesss. Bmaster2020 (talk) 14:59, April 13, 2023 (EDT)
Should we remade the characters list section?[edit]
...to make it look more like the species and other characters sections? With a table of contents with images, description (maybe a column with the English and Japanese dubbers)? I'm asking it because I don't wanna mess up with the "transcludesection" template -- Mariuigi Khed 06:31, May 2, 2023 (EDT)

Film plot article[edit]
I kinda already said this before, but I will add it here. The plot section of this page is very long and detailed. How would a separate article involving the film's plot work in this case? We also have a lot of screenshots in the film's gallery, which is partly what prompted me to make this proposal and give those screenshots better use beyond being a gallery photo. After all, the Mario Bros. say "neatness counts" and perhaps we can find a solution to avoid all the clutter. Marino13 17:07, May 6, 2023 (EDT)
- While this does sound like a good idea on paper, it doesn't really work in the sense that we don't do things like that on the Super Mario Wiki. Besides, the plot isn't that long so the best thing we could do is make the plot look neater. Yours truly, Princess Toadstoo-- I mean NintendoFan08. 12:17, May 23, 2023 (EDT)
- Now that I have revisited the article again since that message, I see the plot has been elaborated and expanded even further. While I do support your idea, I still find it excessively long and creating a plot page for the film will work. You just need to look at various other examples. You can have the long portion, and then the summarized plot for this page. Remember, "neatness counts". Marino13 17:18, September 10, 2023 (EDT)
Like father and son[edit]
There’s something strange about cranky and Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong was Cranky’s son I I thought Donkey Kong Junior would be cranky’s son
And Donkey Kong’s Father was Donkey Kong Jr.
What’s up with that?
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.131.175.89 (talk).
Mariuigi Khed 19:29, May 7, 2023 (EDT)
SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 10:19, May 23, 2023 (CST)

- First, the incorrect use of capitalization is making it difficult to comprehend what you're saying, so I'll try to respond to the best of my ability. I don't think DK's knowledge or lack of thereof of the name of the Mushroom is relevant information to mention. Finally, Spiny Shell is a consistently established name in the series, though "Blue Shell" is a very common colloquial use of the term; additionally there are named Blue Shells but they're blue-colored Koopa Shells that range from a a simple color (Super Mario World) to a wearable powerup (New Super Mario Bros.) to freeze-inducing projectiles (Mario Strikers). The Koopa General yells "Blue Shell" in reference to the colloquial use; i.e. it's more easily understood by the audience. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 20:07, June 8, 2023 (EDT)
Should we add a transcript?[edit]
I feel like we should.

- I feel like we should do this even with the other movie and cartoon episodes. But, should we, admins? -- Mariuigi Khed 04:43, July 26, 2023 (EDT)
- Copyright or not, various wikis/fandoms/encyclopedias do this without a problem. Unless you want to visit the The Super Mario Bros. Movie Wiki and see how they run things in connection to the film there. You know you could always ask for consent and put this matter to rest. Marino13 17:22, September 10, 2023 (EDT)
- Not 100% sure if an entire wiki dedicated to the film is a very good example since they're obviously going to split a lot more aspects on the film than we will. Not to mention trying to go along how other wikis work has always been strongly looked down on. Nightwicked Bowser 17:29, September 10, 2023 (EDT)
Fire Peach Trivia[edit]
Should we mention in the "References in Later Media" section that in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Fire Peach wears her hair down instead of in a ponytail like in the movie? I'm not sure that it's necessary, because it's already mentioned on the Super Mario Bros. Wonder page, but I was just wondering. -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk) 23:14, November 12, 2023 (EST)
- I added this info. Please let me know if I should change it/add a reference. -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 01:11, November 19, 2023 (EST)
- The information appears to be removed.[8] In Smash Ultimate, Peach has an alternate recolor that resembles her fire form, and she wears her hair down. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 01:40, November 19, 2023 (EST)
- Yeah, but it's an alternate costume. -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 12:01, November 19, 2023 (EST)
- Smash Ultimate isn't shy about some model alterations to fit alternate colors though. But I also don't think Smash Ultimate really bothered tying Peach's hair back compared to editing Pikachu's tail for the female Pikachu alts. That being said, I don't think the hair style is a reference to the movie but I guess it's worth noting in the Fire Mario page. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 17:46, November 19, 2023 (EST)
- I agree with you. -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 13:39, November 20, 2023 (EST)

- Oh, sorry. SMBW's page said that it was a reference the last time I checked, but it's been removed by the same person who removed my edit. In that case, I won't add anything. -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 14:35, November 21, 2023 (EST)

Trivia[edit]
-- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 13:51, November 20, 2023 (EST)
- Well, not really. Even if movies taught us otherwise, diving from a big height in water is still dangerous, if not deadly (imagine diving belly first, it would hurt even from small heights). This is the same logic. Also, it can be taken as the idea of falling into a pit or, in Super Mario Bros. (All-Stars version) into a water body from the surface (which wasn't swimmable at the time): losing a life and your power up. Mariuigi Khed 17:28, November 20, 2023 (EST)
- I was just thinking that because it's different from how falling into water (even from great heights) acts in the games, we could put it there. But if you don't want me to, I won't. Thanks! -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 14:02, November 21, 2023 (EST)
Concerning an extended scene[edit]
In many of the TV spots for the movie, one of the scenes that played was when Mario, Peach, and Toad were walking across the bridge with the Cheep Cheeps. As in the movie, a Cheep Cheep lands on Mario's face. However, in the TV spots, this is extended out to include Peach pulling the Cheep Cheep off Mario's face, with the Cheep Cheep then landing on Toad's head instead. This version of the scene was cut from the movie. Should we mention this? Or, more importantly, did anyone else notice this oddity? -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 23:07, February 6, 2024 (EST)
- I recall that. Perhaps I'll check if it's a deleted scene on the DVD release. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:39, February 6, 2024 (EST)
- It is mentioned on the Waterfall Area page. 1468z (talk) 04:54, February 7, 2024 (EST)
- I don't think it's a deleted scene in the home release. That's great that it's mentioned on the Waterfall Area page, but should we mention it on the main page? -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 19:42, February 7, 2024 (EST)

Split References to other media section[edit]

Split References to other media section 10-0
The "References to other media" section is one of the longest sections on this article, and takes up a tremendous amount of space. Not to mention, all of the information is very cramped together and is very hard to read and navigate. That is why I'm proposing that the section should be moved into its own article. I have made a work-of-concept article on my sandbox to give an idea of what a more ideal method would look like. The work-of-concept sorts each piece of media via sections, with each individual reference being organised by bullet points, complete with images from the film's gallery page to demonstrate most points. Should this proposal be accepted, the work-of-concept will be moved into the mainspace and the "References to other media" section will be replaced with a {{main}} link. Split[edit]
- RetroNintendo2008 (talk) Per proposal.
- Tails777 (talk) I for sure agree that the references should be split between Mario related and non-Mario related. That's kinda been bugging me for a while.
- Pseudo (talk) Seems long enough to justify a separate page. Per proposal.
- Mariuigi Khed (talk) Same as Pseudo
- TheUndescribableGhost (talk) I actually attempted a sandbox to cover these references. Glad to see someone do a better take.
- Super Mario RPG (talk) Good idea.
- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk) This looks really good! Per proposal!
- Mario (talk)
- Sparks (talk) Sure! Per all.
- Dine2017 (talk) Per proposal.

Here's this link right here:https://youtu.be/xEpal6nWuu4?si=6ItGZT5nRKVxEeZN. You should also take a look at the end of the game's overview trailer, because I just beg to differ. I just fail to see how these cutscenes don't mirror those in the Mario Movie. -User:Jude da Dude
Mario and Luigi’s… sibling?[edit]
So, I’m fluent in Portuguese and I recently watched the Mario Movie in English with Portuguese subtitles and in the part when Mario and Luigi are entering their home, the subtitles say:
“-Mãe, fizeste isto?
-Saiu bem, não saiu?
-Porque não fazes assim?”
Here’s the translation:
“-Mom, did you do this?
-Turned out good, didn’t it?
-Why don’t you do it like this?”
So, the “Turned out good” sounded like Mama, and someone saying mom… didn’t make sense. As far as we know, Mama is the only mother in the family in the movie. So, the third Mario brother (presumably the niece’s father (it was a guy talking)) was probably in the kitchen, with Mama, and never came out during dinner. And the subtitles weren’t auto-generated. They were made by someone. So, I dunno, just, like, mention this in the main article, or something. Weegie baby (talk) 05:25, December 8, 2024 (EST)
- The English subtitles for my version (Amazon Prime) claims Arthur is the one talking to mom.
- “Arthur: Ma, did you make these?
Mom: Ah, good batch, eh?
Arthur: Why don’t you make it like this?”
- “Arthur: Ma, did you make these?
- It's weird that he would call his sister-in-law his mother. It's likely is that it was from an earlier version of the script that was negligently left unchanged when the family relations were different. I think the niece was suppose to be a first cousin at some point.--Platform (talk) 06:50, December 8, 2024 (EST)
- Ok. Weegie baby (talk) 07:37, December 8, 2024 (EST)
- Wait, I just realised Mama’s name is Mama Mia Mario, first name Mama. If so, Arthur was just using a nickname or something. Weegie baby (talk) 08:22, December 8, 2024 (EST)
- No, first name is Mia, "Mama" is just a nickname to make a "Mamma mia" joke. BUT... being Italian, I can safely say it's not unusual to refer to someone with their "family role" even if it's incorrect with their point of view (example, a parent calling his own father/father-in-law "grandpa"): Mia might be Arthur's sister-in-law, but since she is mostly referred as "Mama" by her kids, he would use the same name, despite actually being siblings in-laws. Also, we do know "Mama" and "Papa" are actual nicknames (again, to make a "Mamma Mia" joke out of their names), so it's safe to say it's that in the Portuguese subtitles. -- Mariuigi Khed 10:04, December 8, 2024 (EST)
- EXCUSE ME?!?!?! SINCE WHEN IS MAMA'S NAME "MIA"?!?!?! Mama’s first name is Mama. Just accept it. Weegie baby (talk) 13:59, December 8, 2024 (EST)
- Mama isn't a name anywhere, it's a family role; Mia is an actual name; and Mario we know it's the surname (which, I can confirm, it's also a real-life surname here in Italy). With your logic, Luigeena's first name is "Aunt". Mariuigi Khed 06:30, December 9, 2024 (EST)
- With my logic, Luigeena's first name isn't aunt. Weegie baby (talk) 09:12, December 9, 2024 (EST)
- Possibly because Rigassi is only canon in the show: the games have officially never revealed her maiden name, so we can't actually put it as her (official) full name. Better example to make is... Tails: everyone calls him "Tails" despite being a nickname and his full name being "Miles Prower", or Dr. Eggman. Mariuigi Khed 12:45, December 9, 2024 (EST)
- Ok. But now that you're "talking", I'm actually starting to doubt if "Mama" is Mama's name or not. And if you can answer this well, I'll believe that "Mia" is her name: the Mario series has weird names. "Midbus", "Kamek", "Bowser", etc. And even humans: Peach, Kid, 5-Volt, etc. So, explain it. Weegie baby (talk) 15:44, December 9, 2024 (EST)
- Simple: the Marios were originally created as people from a real-life location (New York) with roots from a real-life place (Italy), before retconing in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island that they are actually native from the Mushroom Kingdom and that the "New York" they were talking about in previous games was either New Donk City, Big Ape City and/or Big-City. Before that, of course the "Real World humans" (such as Stanley) would have normal realistic names, while the "aliens of the Mushroom World" (such as Peach Toadstool) would have unusual/fantastical names, which most of them derives from a Japanese rework of actual names or from real-life names (there are people called "Peaches" and I do know that "Bowser" is a pet-name for dogs and we do know a guy that has "Bowser" as a surname). Mariuigi Khed 18:25, December 9, 2024 (EST)
- Ok. Peace ✌️. vanishes Weegie baby (talk) 07:21, December 10, 2024 (EST)
@Weegie baby I think you're talking this "Mama Mia Mario is her full name" thing a bit too literally. I think it'd make more sense to treat the "Mama" part as a title rather than as her first name (y'know, because you tend to call your own parents things such as "mama", "papa", "mom", "dad", "mum", "pops", etc, rather than their actual first name). It's like how Peach's full name is "Princess Peach Toadstool"; "Princess" is her title. If we're treating the "Mama" in Mama Mia Mario's name as her actual first name instead of a title, then by that logic, Peach's first name should be "Princess" instead. rend (talk) (edits) 15:52, December 9, 2024 (EST)
