I don't know what it's called, but I do know what happens when you manage to get it out of the jar. It turns into a palette swapped Yoshi egg, and acts the same way. And you can re-use it if it falls in quick sand. To get it out, play as Luigi, and have at least 3 hearts. Then, run into a Spark (at the top) and try to get to one side or the other. Enemies section[edit]
Is it okay if I add an enemies section to this article just like I did to super mario bros.?I Think it would be helpful.--Fg 16:42, 27 January 2007 (EST)
Okay so no one is responding back so I'll just add an enemies section to this article.--Fg 17:21, 27 January 2007 (EST)
- Yes I think you should. Hee...I replied to late. Paper Jorge! I give paper cuts so stand back!
Bonus Roulette[edit]
Could anyone make sense out of that roulette? I can't figure out when exactly you get a 1up, it seems rather random. Would be good to have in the article though. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 16:39, 17 May 2008 (EDT)

- Name: Toad

Information Source: Super Mario All Stars Instruction Manual --Arima 23:00, 28 July 2009 (EDT)
- Nice find. I think the stats in the Super Mario Advance version are a little different (or at least the jump stuff is), and I don't know about the original game. But this info should definitely go on either this page or the All Stars article. - Walkazo 00:19, 29 July 2009 (EDT)
Is there a stat that indicates how much running speed drops when the player is carrying something? I recall Luigi being very fast, but becoming the slowest when holding something.

References in Later Games[edit]
Shouldn't be Super Mario 64 in that list as well for having Bob-Ombs and Shy Guys (flying ones)?
Edofenrir 10:02, 18 August 2009 (EDT)
- But then every game featuring Bob-ombs and Shy Guys had to be listed. I think the list should be cut down in general, since especially Shy Guys and Bob-ombs have become recurring elements in the Mario series. While the Melee one should stay, since this an explicit reference to Super Mario Bros. 2. I don't want to count the articles which would need to be listed as a reference in the Super Mario Bros. article because Goombas and Koopa Troopas appear. That's what the respective articles are for. --Grandy02 10:15, 18 August 2009 (EDT)
I was only curious why all the other games are listed for having them. Then perhaps it would be better to point out that the game introduced Bob-Ombs and Shy Guys to the Marioverse (in case it doesn't do so already) and cut them off the list.
Edofenrir 11:30, 18 August 2009 (EDT)
Also shouldn't we also mention that the choose character screen theme is being retook and played in Super Mario 3D World in the slot machines?.

Level Credit Bug[edit]
I added a note in the Trivia that lists a known bug in the NES version that causes each character to have the wrong number of levels completed above their heads. LReyomeXX 16:27, 24 September 2009 (EDT)
Just a Dream[edit]
This article states that since the game was a dream, that meant it didn't happen. But since Subcon exists in the realm of the subconscious, couldn't it be a real place that is accessed by dreaming?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Buddy Christ (talk).
- It could be some sort of Dream Kingdom, where dreams go when they, well, aren't dreamed any more. I recall the manual saying something about creatures that are made out of someone's dream as well. Unfortunately, this is all speculation and no matter how fun speculation can be, it isn't official material :/ - Gabumon(talk) 14:16, 26 October 2009 (EDT)
The statement in this article, that it's assumed to "not have happened", is speculation too, and that was my point. The whole premise of subcon was that it was a dream world that existed within the subconscious. Mario waking up from the dream doesn't "unrealify" it any more than the fact that it was a dreamworld in the first place. Buddy Christ
- Then, uhm, remove the speculation. -
Gabumon(talk) 12:49, 27 October 2009 (EDT)
- Alright, I did. Buddy Christ
Enemies[edit]
Under the enemies section, there are bullets next ot some of the names meaning that they reappeared in other Mario games. But, didn't all of these characters reappear, because of Super Mario Advance and Super Mario All Stars? Fawfulfury65
- I don't think appearances in remakes count as the enemy "reappearing" since it's basically the same game, only ported to a different system with some changes; articles normally don't even cover remakes under a seperate heading from the original game. Perhaps the note explaining the *s should somehow clarify that, though.--vellidragon 12:21, 20 February 2010 (EST)
- I added the needed clarification. --Grandy02 13:49, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Ball thingy[edit]
In the remake,I saw a ball whith a face that Mario can find in a jar and kick it until it turns small.Anyone knows its name?Count Bonsula I need blood...

Items Section[edit]
I think there should be an Items section. However, I'm not going to make one unless other people agree there should be one. Or, unless someone else wants to make one. Answers appreciated!--Gioku 21:22, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Chronology[edit]
It is said that Super Mario Bros. 2 is not the direct sequel after Super Mario Bros., nor Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, despite the game has a "2" after "Super Mario Bros." and considered to be a direct prequel before Super Mario Bros. 3, right? I've been saying, the game is not a sequel, so the Japan consider Lost Levels to be Super Mario Bros. 2 itself, and Super Mario Bros. 3 would still gain the same current title. But Super Mario Bros. 2 is the prequel of Super Mario Bros. 3 in the USA...But later released in Japan as Super Mario USA. So the game is the sequel after Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. That's also a reason why the story of Super Mario Bros. 2 is sightly different than other games since Nes and Snes. And the chronology says...Link's Awakening is its sequel, before BS Super Mario USA, that's my opinion...--Prince Ludwig 06:44, 13 March 2011 (EDT)
- SMB2 is not a prequel to SMB3. A prequel is a sequel that takes place earlier. SMB2 came out before SMB3 so it cannot be a prequel to it, just a predecessor.68.51.193.141
Sales Speak[edit]
I'm Paper Mario Kart and here I am for another Sales Speak. As of 1/27/12 the original has 7.46 million and Super Mario Advance has 5.49. Check out my other Sales Speaks!

New Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]
Should I add a redirect at the top of the page that links to New Super Mario Bros. 2? MimiTheCopycat 18:29, 17 November 2012 (EST)
I'm really new - as of right now I started ... 5 minutes ago ... but I think that would be very helpful, yes. Super Mario Bros. 2 (talk) 18:09, 7 February 2018 (EST)
- There should be no need, as there is a link to a disambiguation page at the top of the article that leads to New Super Mario Bros. 2 Yoshi876 (talk)

*[edit]
What's with the crazy asterisks in the characters section? Shouldn't their meaning be written at the bottom of the section?--Kombatgod (talk) 10:16, 14 February 2013 (EST)
Little Nub?[edit]
Why is there 1 red pixel on the edge of Mario's sprit? It's down by the back of his foot, and it's outlined. It's on Luigi's sprite to, only green. What the heck is it? I have no idea, and nowhere say's anything about it, it kinda looks like it would be where the Tanooki Tail would be, but it can't be a Tanooki Tail, because it wasn't made at the time.
- I have no clue why Nintendo would do this either. Just don't worry about it too much Ray Trace(T|C) 19:10, 15 October 2013 (EDT)
TLL is too difficult[edit]
This article, and many others, states "Nintendo of America deemed Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels too difficult for Western audiences". Of course, at this point this is almost common knowledge, but I've never actually seen an official statement by NoA or any sort of reference. Seems to me that this could be speculation. Does anyone have a source for this?
Banon (talk · edits) 07:19, 30 December 2015 (EST)
Given recent knowledge about how the game was originally developed as a Mario game before the Doki Doki license was slapped on in Japan, it's more likely that the international Mario 2 is the real Mario 2, and Lost Levels is just a hastily slapped-together sequel after Mario 2 was turned into Doki Doki Panic. I know that this is months ago, but since I don't see anyone with proof, I'm gonna go remove the speculation and clean up the article a bit. (I haven't made an account yet, but if I do, it'll be "N7Kopper" - unless someone else takes that. Which would be weird, nobody does anywhere else.)
Burnt Copy[edit]
I keep adding info in the glitch section about the Xbox burnt copy version but it keeps getting deleted. I'm assuming burnt copies don't count right? I mean, I was referring to an emulator... Super Mario Bros. 2 (talk) 15:04, 17 February 2018 (EST)
- Per policy, glitches caused by physical damage and glitches on emulators aren't listed. --TheFlameChomp (talk) 15:09, 17 February 2018 (EST)
Okay!! Just wondering. Thanks. Oh, and, um, what exactly is an emulator? The disc said 'NES Emulator + Roms' but I'm not sure exactly what an emulator is. Super Mario Bros. 2 (talk) 11:39, 19 February 2018 (EST)
- An emulator acts as a substitute for a console. ROMs are the game data. ROMs are also illegal to download unless the game is free or you own a physical copy, although I think that restrictions are looser for games that never were released in one's own country, as they'd lack an exact copyright there. Could be wrong, though. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:03, 19 February 2018 (EST)
That makes sense, because my emulator had the ROMs on it in a download-looking format, but I never knew it was illegal. The emulator itself is burnt, I guess. I don't really know. It used to be my uncle's or something. I'll ask him about mine, though. Thanks! Super Mario Bros. 2 (talk) 14:00, 19 February 2018 (EST) Super Mario Bros. 2 (talk) 14:00, 19 February 2018 (EST)
Oh dear. I was like 10 when I posted this.. Can’t believe I’d ever get online and ask what an emulator is. I guess this discussion post sorta brings back memories. Pretty cringeworthy now though. PaulinePeachGirl123 (talk) 14:04, 26 November 2022 (EST)

Playchoice-10 release date[edit]
Can someone check the 1988 issues of RePlay or Play Meter magazines to find the release date of SMB2 for the Nintendo PlayChoice-10? I suspect that it was available prior to the NES release in October. Nintendo of America had a habit of first releasing in the arcades before homes like for SMB3.--Platform (talk) 10:01, May 23, 2021 (EDT)
