Artistically, a major "group" of octopus-inspired enemies - namely Octoombas, Octoguys, Rocto, and King Kaliente - are introduced in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'' and I don't think any of us would argue in good faith that these enemies are unrelated to each other, or were inspired by octopuses independently of each other. Name[edit]
Their name is a mix of Swoopin' Stu and Poink, both from Sunshine. make note of that everyone. It could help us understand the storyline pre-release. Max2
Actually, the name is just conjectural. It was made by Kelt who pretty much made up the name.Knife (talk) 19:05, 23 February 2007 (EST)

Do these things actually apper in the game?[edit]
Seeing that information relating to these creatures have eyt to be added to the wiki, even after Galaxy release, I would say no. Glowsquid
They do appear in the game, though I can't recall ever seeing a purple one, they are all blue from what I can remember.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tykyle (talk).
- Actually, the blue ones are a different kind of species. So...like Cosmic Toads, these guys are Beta. Paper Jorge ( Talk·Contributions)·
The image is the only thing that is beta, the article describes the enemies that actually appear in game. We simply need a new image of their blue in game appearance. --Tykyle 03:45, 15 February 2008 (EST)
- My mistake, I didn't remember they were in the game, except blue. I was thinking of the Shroob/Octorock creatures with blue "skin" and yellow dots. Paper Jorge ( Talk·Contributions)·GENO WHIRL!

Surely Slurples are Octoomba relatives, no?[edit]
Howdy! A while ago, I made a revision to the infobox in this article to reflect what I interpreted as an deliberate relationship to Octoombas, but I noticed that this revision was undone some time ago. I think it should be added back, but because it was a little controversial, I thought I would make my case here.
The officially published Japanese name for Slurples is タコチュ or "Takochu". The suffix "tako" is Japanese for "octopus", and is shared with Octoomba and Octoguy. Artistically, a major "group" of octopus-inspired enemies - namely Octoombas, Octoguys, Rocto, and King Kaliente - are introduced in Super Mario Galaxy and I don't think any of us would argue in good faith that these enemies are unrelated to each other, or were inspired by octopuses independently of each other. I think Sluprle is suppose to be considered a part of this related faction as well, otherwise they likely would not have named it "Takochu". I think to suggest otherwise is obscuring some deliberate design choices with these enemies, and I believe it should be reintegrated with Electrogoomba being recognized as the parent species for Slurple in the infobox. I understand that Slurples have different behaviors from the other octopus enemies in the game, but there are a wide diversity of enemy families in Super Mario that have a lot of different behaviors within them, so I don't really think that matters here.
Personally, I also feel like Slurples were designed to look a bit like Octoomba to lampshade a relationship. They both have a siphon-like mouth, squishy bodies, and sunglass-like patches around their eyes - it's just that a Slurple's are white, whereas the other Octooomba relatives have black patches. Let me know what y'all think! - Nintendo101 (talk) 14:40, August 19, 2022 (EDT)
- Well, I also disagree with describing it as a parent/variant relationship. We don't even do that with Octoomba and Rocto. I'm open to listing Octoomba and Slurple as 'relatives', though. They personally seem to have more in common with Smeeches though, which the German name seemingly notes. LinkTheLefty (talk) 09:41, August 20, 2022 (EDT)
- They do kinda seem like an alien counterpart to the original Micro-Goombas, so I wouldn't be too opposed (Rocto, meanwhile, isn't Goomba-like at all). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:19, August 31, 2022 (EDT)
