World 2-1 is the first level of World 2 in Super Mario Bros. and the fifth level overall in said game. The level has many gaps and enemies as well as a jumping board in front of a big wall at the end. In the new quest, players can perform the infinite 1-Up trick as the Buzzy Beetle descends down the staircase near the start of the level.
In Super Paper Mario, the layout of this level was recreated in one section of Chapter 5-3.
Layout[edit]
At the start of the level, there are three bricks, the middle one containing a Magic Mushroom, or a Fire Flower if the player is Super Mario. Just after, there is a short brick platform with a Little Goomba walking down it. Then the platform goes into a small gap with two Koopa Troopas in it.
After the gap, there are two more Little Goombas followed by a Piranha Plant in a Warp Pipe. Next, there are two rows of ?s. The one in the bottom row to the far left contains another Magic Mushroom or Fire Flower. There are also more Little Goombas and Koopas on the ground.
Halfway through the level, there are more bricks, one containing a Starman on the top left, as well as another Piranha Plant inside of a Pipe.
Next, there are even more rows of ?s and bricks. The ?s all contain coins. There is also another set of Little Goombas walking on the ground below the blocks. One of the blocks on the top row slightly to the left contains a Vine that Mario can climb to access Coin Heaven.
The Secret area leads into the clouds where Mario can ride a platform moving to the right to collect a bunch of coins. After Mario exits the secret area, he ends up near the end of the level.
Next, there are a few more groups of Little Goombas and a bunch more Piranha Plants in Pipes. The first Pipe leads to another secret area, this one leading underground, offering another bunch of coins for Mario to collect.
Then, there is a short gap followed by a Koopa Paratroopa. Then there is another short gap with three vertical blocks that Mario must jump over. Then, there are some more ?s as well as bricks, mostly containing coins. There are also even more Little Goombas and Piranha Plants in Pipes.
Lastly, there is another Koopa Paratroopa and a short gap. After the gap, there is a jumping board, followed by a big brick wall. The player must press the "A" button right when Mario is standing on the lowest point of the jumping board to make him jump super high, reaching over the brick wall and getting to the flagpole. Alternatively, there is a Hidden Block above two bricks. The player can use it to jump over the brick wall.
Super Mario Bros. Deluxe challenges[edit]
In Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, the player can collect five Red Coins, find a hidden Yoshi Egg, and get a medal based on their score. The Yoshi Egg is found in the right-most brick over the first gap of the level, which the player needs to reveal two Hidden Blocks to reach, and the score to beat is 40000 (28000 in the Japanese version[1]). The Red Coin locations are:
- Above the top row of the ?s
- In the right-most ? of the first row of ?s below the brick with the vine.
- Behind the pipe, after the first gap in the level.
- In the Ten-Coin Block after the gap with the stone pillar. The player needs to collect all the coins before the Red Coin appears.
- Directly above the jumping board.
