I've noticed that when playing ''Super Mario Sunshine'', although the buttons to talk to Piantas, read signs, etc. are different to in the GameCube version, the button icons still appear as the GameCube controller's buttons, although we use the Switch's button icons. Would it be worth changing {{button|switch|a}} to {{button|gcn|a}}, seeing as these are the official renders in-game? If so, we'd also need to change the button icons for ''Super Mario Galaxy''. Pro controller in Galaxy[edit]

Has it been stated anywhere that we could use a Pro Controller to play Super Mario Galaxy? If not, should we make a note of that in the infobox or somewhere else on the article? Mario jumping Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8

It looks like it supports both handheld and joy cons so it will likely support Pro controllers as well. --09MurphyM (talk) 12:06, September 4, 2020 (EDT)

Screenshots[edit]

I have noticed some replacing of screenshots of the original games being replaced with ones from this version. Words cannot describe how much I disagree with this practice. Screenshots are supposed to be as accurate to the raw appearance of the game they say they are from as they can be, and passing off ones from a high-res port as being from the original is disingenuous for a number of reasons, not the least of which being that it makes it look as though the original hardware is capable of more than it actually is. Switch port images should always be separate, just like any other reissue. You might as well be replacing NES game images with original SMAS images. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:13, September 15, 2020 (EDT)

You should be talking to Crazy Muzzarino about this, the one who uploaded and replaced all those images. Mario jumping Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8
Yeah, they should be separate images. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:19, September 15, 2020 (EDT)

Coverage in Respective Pages?[edit]

This kind of applies to all the characters, enemies, etc. that appear in the ported games, so I thought I'd ask it here: do those pages need to reference Super Mario 3D All-Stars in their history sections? Or not really? (Also, is there some kind of policy that I can be directed to should I need further information?) MarioComix (talk) 22:13, September 17, 2020 (EDT)

Not really, no. The information is already covered in their respective sections, so it'd just be duplicate information, unless something somehow ends up being slightly different. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:14, September 17, 2020 (EDT)

oddities[edit]

Should there be a list somewhere in the article listing these? I'm sure the debug cube thing in the article would be better suited there, (as well as the Sirena Beach thing which was removed) I've only played 64 so far so I wouldn't know much about those. but I have found that in 64 when moving around in areas with certain camera angles Mario becomes his normally unseen low poly self (which is quite a bit actually) and I've had a few instances where I've taken damage only for it refill a split second later as if nothing happened. should these be mentioned in the article or would these count as glitches and go to a glitch page? as I'm sure none of these oddities is intentional.Pikmin theories (talk) 15:53, September 19, 2020 (EDT)

Whoops, just found the Sirena beach thin in a glitches section. so should the things I've listed go there instead?Pikmin theories (talk) 16:09, September 19, 2020 (EDT)

The low-poly Mario isn't a glitch, it's Mario's appearance when the camera is too far away. You can just now see it in HD. I don't know about the Health thing, though. What was happening when you took damage? Did you land in water or collect a Coin on the way down? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:49, September 19, 2020 (EDT)

yeah I know the low poly thing isn't a glitch, but I don't think you're meant to actually see it, and no no coins or water around first time I got hit by a boulder close to the each in Hazy Maze Cave, and the second time was when I got burnt by lava and launched along the wall in Bowser in the Fire sea, both times took 3 wedges then got them straight back.Pikmin theories (talk) 21:55, September 19, 2020 (EDT)

That's called a "Level of Detail" model, or LoD for short. It's not a glitch, LoD models are intended to be seen, but from a far-off distance where details don't matter as much, and the higher resolution makes it easier to see than before. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 22:06, September 19, 2020 (EDT)

okay, well I understand that. I'm not exclusively reffering to it as a glitch, but it was never able to be seen in the original game. my main point is that shouldn't oddities like this be mentioned somewhere in the article? I don't think the model was meant to be seen at all in the original, hence why I'm bringing this up. it only happens when Mario's moving around in areas with certain camera angles, but when standing still in said areas Mario's normal. just trying to figure out where this should fit into the article. as in this one you see it quite often, and in the original was pretty much never.Pikmin theories (talk) 22:18, September 19, 2020 (EDT)

Okay, I figured out what happened with the health thing. apparently I ran through a heart at full health and apparently took damage a few seconds later (even if the heart was off screen) I guess it was still spinning. didn't know they worked for that long or if you're at full health, did they do that in the original? I still think the low poly mario being able to be seen way more often should be noted though.Pikmin theories (talk) 14:38, September 20, 2020 (EDT)

I mean, I've played Diddy Kong Racing on emulator and their lods are more visible than I remember them. As I said earlier, lods being visible is because of the higher resolution, which makes things easier to see. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 15:16, September 20, 2020 (EDT)

but was that emulated by nintendo though?Pikmin theories (talk) 21:18, September 20, 2020 (EDT)

It doesn't really matter if Nintendo emulates it or not (especially considering emulation tries to be as close to the original as possible), higher resolution makes level of detail models more visible than they should be seen. 64 is played on a rather small resolution, and televisions at the age upscale it drastically so it blurs them. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 18:17, September 23, 2020 (EDT)

Okay, but shouldn't the fact that these models are easier to see be at least mentioned in the article. that's what I've been trying to get at.Pikmin theories (talk) 19:41, September 24, 2020 (EDT)
