Magnet Rods,[1] also known as Rotating Magnet Sticks[2] or spin-bar magnets,[3] are objects that first appear in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis. The main function of Magnet Rods is to change the path a Mini takes by flipping the object when a Mini is walking on a magnetic surface. The player can do this simply by swiping the stylus across one of the two handles on the sides, which will flip the Mini's position on the Magnet Rod. Several Minis at once, as well as Magnet Sparkies, can be flipped using Magnet Rods.
Magnet Rods are first seen in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, where they are known as Rotating Magnet Sticks. They are introduced in Magnet Mania, and later appear in Spooky Attic. They are rods made up of large green and small blue segments, with yellow and blue striped sides.
Magnet Rods return in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!, where they are known as spin-bar magnets, and appear in Magnet Mania, the Rooftop, and the Basement. Here, they appear mostly light green with a few blue stripes, including on their sides. They function the same way as before.
Magnet Rods return once again in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!, first appearing in Cosmic Adventure and later appearing in Rainbow Summit. In this game, they appear as rods made of gray segments, with a light blue outline and red and gray striped sides. Their function is the same as before; however, the player can now swipe anywhere on the Magnet Rod to rotate it, rather than just its sides.
