That's not what I mean. The page says the circles indicate whether they're "generic characters" or not. But the new trailer shows that it actually indicates their character type. Like Boom Boom and Spike have red background, meaning they're Power characters. As for the Paratroopa multi-colored circle, the top screen shows Paratroopa's full model, and it's a green one. So the blue is probably Paratroopa's type (Technique) while the green indicates that it's a Green Paratroopa. 71.88.50.65

Metal Mario's playability
Several things I like to dispute about this.
*If there was a special technique for each character, we would have seen at least a meter for it in the screenshots provided for horse racing. The only things we saw is the Stamina Meter and the Star Dash meter. The stamina meter is replenished when you eat carrots while the Star Dash is a technique that makes you go faster. There is nothing further to indicate this.
*If Mario's special ability WAS to transform into Metal Mario, other characters should at least have an HUD change in the map screen for their special effect as well, or at least different particle effects around their icon. We don't see this at all.
*The little icons on the bottom right area of the amiibo card? I'm pretty sure it represents the gear you can unlock when you scan it in, as mentioned in this site.

Digital cards
I see that images of the digital cards have been added to respective character galleries, but should those mainly be for the primary digital card gallery page for this game (as in, they don't really qualify for the respective character gallery pages)? --M. :I was actually following the lead of Baby Luigi, who had added the cards to the galleries of the Baby Mario Bros. I mean, they do feature images of the characters which have been encoded as sprites in-game, so I think they count. They're kind of similar to trophies from Smash Bros. actually. MarioComix (talk) 22:03, 24 March 2017 (EDT)

At the beginning of the article it says that "initial run copies of the game come with one amiibo card".  What does "initial run" mean?  And is it possible to change it to a date, like "the game comes with an amiibo card until (insert date)"? -YoshiFlutterJump (talk) 17:27, 18 April 2017 (EDT)
:I suspect "initial run" refers to the first batch of games that were physically produced. (Think the Switch: all Switch consoles released so far are the initial run, and they ran out.) == Split page? ==
(Might be applicable to Mario Sports Mix)
This is a big page. Would it be better if this article was somewhat split by sport? Advantages would be that information relevant to each sport would be all in one place so people don't have to scroll all over this page. Disadvantage would be article names, disambiguation, searching. 15:42, August 3, 2024 (EDT)
:On one hand, I could see all sports being separate pages considering they're treated as separate "games" within with two different studios working on the game, with their own unlock conditions (the metals, gear, and tournament cups are all separate unlocks), tutorials, assets (Tennis and Golf character models and ripped assets are noticably different, Baseball, Soccer, and Horse Racing character select icons are all more compressed, lower quality variants of Tennis and Golf plus use washed out textures, likely because those two sports are done by Camelot). On the other hand, other aspects of the game are merged, namely the trading card unlocks, Road to Superstar, plus I'm not a huge fan of reading information across many different articles compared to one spot, plus the disambiguation names and article names would be terrible. The Sports Mix sports do have more in common with each other than the Sports Superstars one though, so I think it's better in one article. I don't think the article itself is even that big right now, one of the bigger ones sure, but only at 83 in the Long pages list, so I don't think there is much to gain from a split. 16:16, August 3, 2024 (EDT)

They DO appear in the baseball part as well, though. I think we should just have one list of playable characters until we really know how the game works, because now it's kinda just like guessing who's fully playable and who's just some supporting character at this point. ~ Qyzxf (talk)
More significantly, I'm sure I saw Pom Pom, by herself, in the Tennis part. CrashBash (talk) 17:14, 1 September 2016 (EDT)

? Block Icon[edit]

I clicked on the Main Menu screenshot (on my Wii U) and zoomed in. It looked like this so called ? Block icon is simply the manual icon. I don't want to edit it though, due to the possibility of my simply being mistaken or something. Marioguy (talk) 16:51, 6 September 2016 (EDT)

Peach and Daisy's Sports Outfit[edit]

Going by the gallery of pictures we have so far, won't we need to say for a Trivia, Princess Peach and Princess Daisy are the only two characters in this game to have two sports outfits in this game? Kangaflora (talk) 12:28, 13 September 2016 (EDT)

Character Limitations[edit]

Hey i was wandering if there are Character limitations in this game was it nintendos choice in m&srio2016??? i would like to know as i pray to god there will be no limitations. Mariobirdofan02

It isn't confirmed that there are character limitations, however, there's evidence against character limitations so far: most characters barring a few were shown playable in more than one sport. I think the only characters shown in one sport were Birdo, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi, and I would find it a bit weird that they make Baby Mario a soccer exclusive while Baby Luigi a horse-riding exclusive. This game also contains less characters than Mario & Sonic, as well as less, but more focused games. And finally, Mario & Sonic were developed by SEGA, this game is developed by different developers, Camelot and Namco Bandai games. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 15:36, 30 September 2016 (EDT)
Baby Mario is also in Golf, so there is little to worry about, for the reasons said by Baby Luigi: five sports (not all developed by the same team) and a (relatively) small roster don't create the need of restricting characters to some sports in order not to create huge animations sets. SEGA itself doesn't seem to be exactly fond of restricitng characters that much, to the point that in the Wii U and arcade versions of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games the core cast from the 2010 game has no restriction at all.--Mister Wu (talk) 16:04, 30 September 2016 (EDT)

Japanese's realesed : July 2017 ?[edit]

Bazooka Mario, you say "Source?", you bindled or What ? I asked a question for the japanese's realesed. And Baby Luigi thanks for the information --Captain Yoshi 05:20, 28 November 2016 (EST)
There's no need to be rude, Captain Yoshi. He only asked you for a source as to where you got your claim for the Japanese release date. CrashBash (talk) 07:01, 28 November 2016 (EST)
Yes but i asked a question --Captain Yoshi 13:02, 28 November 2016 (EST)
It doesn't look like a question, though. It looks like you're making a statement, as if you're saying "The game will be released in Japan in the Winter 2017". So naturally it would make sense for Bazooka Mario to ask for a source, I.E. where did you get that statement from? CrashBash (talk) 14:11, 28 November 2016 (EST)
She, not he. It wasn't clear to me what you were asking. And even if that was a legit question, you could've possibly gotten a date from a source and tried to ask us for confirmation before you add it to a page. Either way, if you see a release date that's inconsistent with the article's release date in a recent source, you should provide the source. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. Character Types are Color-Coded[edit]

https://youtu.be/_j7SNjlsSDc?t=34s

For the partner characters, we can make out what type they are by the background behind their head. On the main character selection screen, it shows Balance characters are Green, Technique is Blue, Speed is Yellow, and Power is Red.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.88.50.65 (talk).

I already know the background thing, you can easily observe this by looking at the initial reveal trailer. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 18:53, 26 January 2017 (EST)
I'm just curious if the fact that Magikoopa's circle has a blue outline and blue filling while Paratroopa's has a blue outline and green filling means anything other than potentially just color-swaps. MarioComix (talk) 22:36, 26 January 2017 (EST)

The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.88.50.65 (talk).

That was actually originally referring to the bottom screen positions in soccer (can be seen here or in the original announcement trailer). MarioComix (talk) 16:32, 28 January 2017 (EST)

Metal Mario's playability[edit]

Several things I like to dispute about this.

 • If there was a special technique for each character, we would have seen at least a meter for it in the screenshots provided for horse racing. The only things we saw is the Stamina Meter and the Star Dash meter. The stamina meter is replenished when you eat carrots while the Star Dash is a technique that makes you go faster. There is nothing further to indicate this.
 • If Mario's special ability WAS to transform into Metal Mario, other characters should at least have an HUD change in the map screen for their special effect as well, or at least different particle effects around their icon. We don't see this at all.
 • The little icons on the bottom right area of the amiibo card? I'm pretty sure it represents the gear you can unlock when you scan it in, as mentioned in this site.

BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 16:53, 10 February 2017 (EST)

Maybe Metal Box could be an item instead. Item Boxes could clearly be seen in some pictures.

Digital cards[edit]

Split page?[edit]

This is a big page. Would it be better if this article was somewhat split by sport? Advantages would be that information relevant to each sport would be all in one place so people don't have to scroll all over this page. Disadvantage would be article names, disambiguation, searching. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 15:42, August 3, 2024 (EDT)
