Re: Clear Twitter Sprites
Hey, sorry for the late replies too, I'll be sure to get working on my page soon, as I haven't had the time yet...
About the sprites, I'm a little confused as to what you meant, did you mean just upload the files as they are in the page, or actually re-create them clearer?

I don't mean to single you out or anything, but I'm just genuinely curious: since you've supported the Neo Bowser City nomination, you presumably disagree with the opposing reasons that I brought up. Would you be able to explain why you disagree? Whether you think that the problems aren't that big of a deal or even if you think I'm exaggerating on the article's qualities, I'm interested in knowing.

Hi. When the wiki is trying to cover something upcoming/brand new. You can't "shotgun" the edits as it'd prevent the information coming more quickly to the wiki. So please, let others continue to do what they are doing. Yoshi876

Costume Mario proposal
Walkazo has some good guidelines to put up, I think it's a good compromise. I think you should restart or rewrite your proposal and rewrite following what Walkazo posted in the comments section. 19:12, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
:I think you should delete and reset all votes, since you drastically changed the proposal. Also, after you changed it, you should message all voters to let them know that the proposal has been changed 15:21, 16 September 2015 (EDT)
::When you have reset your proposal due to drastic changes, that's a better measure. 15:30, 16 September 2015 (EDT)/
:::It is. Even Walkazo wants you to reset the proposal. Don't worry too much, even if I did give you bad advice, you won't get into any punishment over it. 16:04, 16 September 2015 (EDT)
::::Forget what I said there. I am really sorry for misleading you. I didn't know better, and as I said, even I don't fully understand the entire process myself. If there's anyone to blame, it's me. 17:22, 16 September 2015 (EDT)
Ah, I've voted. Thanks for the notification. 15:23, 16 September 2015 (EDT)
Is it OK for me to do the edits to the Costume Mario page once this proposal has been solved, or do you want to do it? 00:16, 18 September 2015 (EDT)
:You can do it all if you want, but I've already got the code handy here if you want to use it. I was just experimenting with the code of the table, because I was curious about how your ideas and Walkazo's ideas would look on the actual table. 18:39, 18 September 2015 (EDT)
::Oh, so that's what you meant by 3x the size, I was just using the 45px coding on the sprites. I thought you were going to do 3x the size in the page's coding, not the images themselves, my mistake. In that case I'll change the background in the table's coding, and you can do the image resizing. How about that? 16:23, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
Super Mario Maker:Super Mario Bros. Sprites
Since NWPlayer123's datamine came out, I'll be uploading all of the Super Mario Maker:Super Mario Bros. Sprites to the Super Mario Maker Gallery. If you want to fix them, feel free, but I don't want to give you to much work, since you're also doing the Costume Mario Sprites. Let me know if you need any help, Ok. 17:11, 26 September 2015 (EDT)
:That is fine and all, but I'm afraid that they will be in a table, and that they will be blurry, like the Costume Mario sprites. 20:14, 27 September 2015 (EDT)
::My mistake, they're actually fantastically clear. Thanks anyways! 20:21, 27 September 2015 (EDT)
I found a backwards ? block costume on the Costume Mario sprite sheet. Do you know if it is used or unused? Do you want to add it to the Costume Mario table and re-size it, or should I? 15:16, 5 October 2015 (EDT)
:That makes sense. I thought it was another costume, or a different version of the same costume (like the inklings underwater). It had its own set of animations, that's what had me confused. thanks for clearing that up for me. 17:18, 5 October 2015 (EDT)

Making sprites bigger, the easier way
Open notepad. Copy and paste the article's coding into notepad. Then, crtl f, go to replace, and type in the "find" table, "|center" (or whatever common value table images have,it could be merely ".png" and in the replace table, add "|center|30px". Select ok, and it will automatically generate the size parameters for all sprites. Make sure you preview changes first! I've done all of your Costume Mario sprites for you this way, and you've technically made my work harder since you inputted all of these inconsistent image values in them. 17:21, 2 October 2015 (EDT)
:No, keep doing what you were doing, Pyro Guy. I reverted Baby Luigi's incorrect changes to 30px and told her not to hijack your proposal again. You still might wanna get the Costume Mario changes done as soon as you can, however: it seems this idea is a big draw for edit-snipers for one reason or another... All bets are off on sprite tables elsewhere around the wiki, but this page was your proposal, so you should get to do it. - 18:49, 2 October 2015 (EDT)
::Just forget what I said. I was being hot-headed, incredibly stupid, rude, and spontaneous there. I didn't mean you any harm, I just wanted to help you out. I should have contacted you before I made those changes, but my excitement for using automation (and that it works fine) + my overall mood got the better of me before I can think rationally and ask myself how would I feel if someone did all of that before I could? But still, the whole notepad replacement business is something I think you should keep in mind, as, if you need any sort of replacements in the table in the future, you can do that as well. 19:43, 2 October 2015 (EDT)
:::@Walkazo Too late for that- Niiue has done the whole thing. I feel that if I were to take any action, I would probably be discourteous towards him, so I'm gonna step back and let someone else sort it out.
:::@Baby Luigi It's fine, I would have done that anyway, (and I have done in the past) if I wasn't recommended to give them their accurate sizes. 03:51, 3 October 2015 (EDT)
::::Oh, sorry to hear that. If the edits are proper, yeah, there's nothing to do - not out of discourtesy to him, but just because there's no point in reverting good content. You were right to only give him a polite heads-up, but since I'm a third party, I gave him a firmer message about the discourtesy he showed you. Hopefully you'll have better luck in enacting your next proposal... - 18:51, 3 October 2015 (EDT)
:::::I undid my edits to the page. I honestly wasn't thinking at the time (mostly because I got about an hour of sleep the whole week). Niiue (talk) 21:28, 3 October 2015 (EDT)
Costume Mario
Just dropping by to apologize for edit-sniping earlier. I wasn't really thinking (sleep deprivation played a big part of this), and I ended up doing something I'd otherwise never do. So yeah, sorry about that, I won't do that again. Niiue (talk) 05:54, 4 October 2015 (EDT)

Re:Rosalina
I'm taking this project to our talk so we don't need to check to constantly check FA nomination page of what we're going to do. I've already called dibs on expanding Rosalina's personality section, as I think it could use more expansion, like, get it from her roles and her speech and demeanor. You're planning to work on the Mario Party and Galaxy parts. Anything else you would like to do? If nothing else, I'll handle the rest. 00:30, 14 October 2015 (EDT)
:By the way, the project may end up operating on a deadline. If five votes pass, the deadline for an unfeaturing is shown. So, we better act up to avoid going through a process of refeaturing the article. 00:32, 14 October 2015 (EDT)
::I think the images are fine the way they are. Some of them actually need to be removed for the article, since there's too much of them on there. 14:46, 14 October 2015 (EDT)
Your Personal Super Mario Maker Image
My 3D render (long post, don't be intimidated!)
Glad you asked! I used Maya 2014/5 and I first took a model from the Models Resource. I cheated a bit there, since I got a high-quality already-rigged Mario model from Super Mario 3D World, so I didn't have to rig Mario by myself. I also found a rocket launcher from Team Fortress 2, because what's a Bazooka Mario without a big gun? I plopped him into the scene and enable his textures. His textures start out as shiny, so under Hypershade, I selected his textures and changed the type of material from Blinn/Phong to Lambert, removing the shinyness. I then used GIMP to recolor his body textures, using the Magic Wand tool and the Colorize option until it became a nice shade of pink and darker pink/purple. Once the textures are done and applied, I look at the material for Mario's eyes and the gun and enable raytracing (which is responsible for reflections, I believe). But since you already grasped the concept of reflections, you seem fine there.
When setting up the textures is done, I set up a camera to establish a particular angle and then move Mario's bones into position. Bones are these wire-framey joint handles you sometimes find in models; I don't know if your Shy Guy has it, but there is a high-quality Mario Party 9 Shy Guy that should come in a pre-rigged .dae format (use UVflipped one if I recall correctly). Anyway, move the bones until you get a position you like. For now, don't worry about adding a fire effect, but there are tutorials on how to add good-looking fire, even if you're using Maya, 3DS Max, or Blender. The gun is only an extra, but I had to look at an image of the guy holding the gun so the gun placement in Mario's hands are accurate. Oh, one more thing, that Mario has several "faces" and "hands" so I had to attach them to several layers so I can hide them at will, and I can select which hands and face to show or hide.
Once the position is done, set up your lights. Get one main bright light and have it shine at a good angle; the angle should create a well-defined shadow. My image has a main light shining from the upper right side. Add two other lights. I usually add one to "fill" in the dark area created by the shadow; I placed one near his belly. Finally, one more light should be added, which is less apparent: the rim light. It usually lies opposite to the main light, but experiment with the angles; ultimately, this light should slightly light up the opposite edge to compliment the form; you can see this little light on the left side of Mario's face. We have a term for the process: three-point lighting. The lights themselves have options with shadows
Once you're done, use that camera and set up the rendering, which involves raytracing (reflections, shadows, etc.), anti-aliasing (edge smoothness), and resolution (how big and clear the image is). Maya has these presets, and I went with "production quality". Of course, sometimes the render doesn't show up as good. Also, you may want to run through several low-quality renders (since they take up considerably less time) to check the light and shadow and pose placement and see if they're in-line.
Once I was done with my render, it still wasn't good enough. When I first uploaded my image, it had a blackish outline, but in GIMP, I just used the magic wand, threshold of 30ish and feathering on, to 2.0, and shift selected the transparent areas a few times and hit the delete key a few times.
Don't be surprised if you're confused or lost. Chances are, you're probably using Blender and are new to modeling, but chances are, it also has similar options, and you can also manipulate the light and resolution quality. Just play around with the program you're using and experiment a lot. I'm a student modeler right now, by the way, so I'm pretty new to this as well. Hope we both learn things from this! 17:10, 23 November 2015 (EST)
:I believe you use Blender, correct? Well, I don't know what you did. I do like to see the image, but you can also provide me how you set it up, too, like how you position the lights. Anyway, if there is some aspect I've mentioned that seems unfamiliar to you, like raytracing or render quality, just look it up in Blender-related help and tutorials. 17:51, 24 November 2015 (EST)
::I'm not sure if Blender uses a layering system as Maya does (and I don't know if 3ds Max does it either) but the safest way to do things is just to save multiple copies of the file, so your original file is still there whenever you want a different pose or if you seriously screwed up. I suppose the Shy Guy model from Mario Sports Mix is decent, but the quality of Sports Mix's models are lower than games like in Mario Party 9 and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (I don't think Shy Guy is ripped from the former yet); even Mario Kart 8 doesn't have as high quality. Paint.NET is a good alternative to GIMP, so I don't think I need to give detailed instructions on the magic wand tool and the colorize/color options.
::With lights, I use point light and spot light; both work. Sun is likely the ambient light, so if your model looks dark by default, use that. But the other two lights are preferred if you're setting up three-point lighting. My Mario model was bright by default, so I didn't put an ambient light. Also, if I recall correctly, you don't need to manually remove the backgrounds of your renders, at least not in Maya. Maya automatically generates a transparent background if there is nothing behind your character.
::Maya wasn't my first program; 3DS Max was, but I attended a class that focuses on Maya, so I learned a few things from there. I do have Blender in my computer, but the interface is weird and not very friendly, and I don't use it much.
::Your render looks decent! There are a few minor adjustments that should be made, however. Mario's chin is clipping through the left arm, so move the left arm away until they don't visibly pass through each other. The hands have a visible seam running along the finger to the base of the thumb; this is a normals/smoothing issue, and Blender should be able to fix that. Finally, there is a weird texture on the ear and at the sole of the foot, so be careful when you're recoloring textures.
::Now model issues aside, now what? Well, your render looks very flat, especially at the hat, where there is no discernible shading. This is where the lights come into play. You should insert a bright point/spot light in the scene and aim it from the left or right side at usually a high angle and put it somewhere at the flank. Your goal is, again, create a light source that creates obvious shadows which help define the form of a 3D model. Don't make the light so bright that it washes out the color of the model, and don't make the shadows so dark because it is visually jarring. You then create another dimmer (and maybe different color, like bluish or yellowish) point/spot light source at the opposite end, behind and near the ground. The position is not specific, but the goal is to create a dimmer, but still noticeable light at the opposite edge of the primary light source, so the far edge of the model is slightly illuminated. This is for rim lighting, which is intended to compliment the 3D form, again, helping it look 3D. For an example of rim lighting, Super Mario Galaxy is very notable for its rim lighting on its art renders and its in-game renders, like this image. The rim lighting is that sliver of white lighting around the characters' outlines (their rim lighting is all around the model, however, but that's a stylistic design). Finally, you might need a dim fill light, which, from a top-down view is positioned usually between the main and the rim light and in front of the model. Blender is most likely capable of producing an effect like this, so experiment with light placement and see if it turns out better. 20:16, 25 November 2015 (EST)
:::Now, on the scene. I think the general set up is fine. I'm not sure what Wario's doing over there, but it can't be good since we're around. ;) Again, the faceted nature of the candy spheres and the scenery (giving them a disco-bally edges) is a normals/smoothing issue (this also include the seam along my guy's arm and leg). Blender probably has adjustments where you can vertex weld or smooth the edges. Finally, the shadows aren't very good, as they're very grainy. Again, try varied lighting effects, although it's not as important here since you're outdoors. 20:34, 25 November 2015 (EST)
Explanation: Names in Other Languages
Although it is policy for articles to list the topic's name in other languages, there is no reason for this policy to apply for real-world cities, towns, countries, etc. unless the name comes directly from the game or other work that features the place. In making the edits you reverted, I was influenced by two edits to articles on topics of the same category that were made by Walkazo, who is a Bureaucrat, on the same grounds. --SethAllen623 (talk), 22:16, November 23, 2015 (EDT)
M&SG
Costume Mario sprite sizes
*I resized the sprite heights to 48px, since a block tile is 16x16 pixels in Super Mario Maker. 16x3=48, so it would still follow the proposal's rule of having sprites be 3x their normal size. However, it seems that some costumes have a size of 24x24 pixels, and since 24x3=72, that would make the sprite quite large when displayed. 15:26, 24 November 2015 (EST)
*Yeah I realized that problem after doing the image resizing. While resizing sprites to 3x their normal size does work out fine for 16x16 pixel sprites, larger sprites can be a problem if you don't want the sprites to appear too big on an article. 15:49, 24 November 2015 (EST)

Hey, your section is being merged back into Pipe Plaza so please send your section to me. I'm going on holiday on July 13, so if I don't have your section by then, then it can't be featured in the issue. Yoshi876 (talk)

Last Warning

Lastwarn.svg This is your last warning. The next time you break the rules in any way, you will be blocked from editing the Super Mario Wiki.
If you feel this last warning was undeserved, you may appeal it.

You are not allowed to create another account on the wiki, especially if that account is going to be used to flame users, even yourself. Yoshi876 (talk)

RE:Last Warning

One of the first rules of appealing a warning is that if it is given by a staff member, it cannot be appealed. Secondly, the reason your IP was unblocked was so you could continue editing, creating another account in itself is not a bannable offence unless done multiple times, it was not done because I believe your story, if I did then Starkuss would've been unbanned. The reason your IP was blocked in the first place is because IP addresses are banned for 24 hours if linked with a banned account. Yoshi876 (talk)

Patrollers count as "admins" too. From MarioWiki:Glossary: "Administrators (Admins) - Another name for Sysops. Also used as an umbrella term for all the promoted ranks (Sysops, Patrollers and Bureaucrats)." The FAQ page also states it, it's general knowledge for most users, and Special:RecentChanges/Whosonline even has colour-coding for wiki staff members: these colours also appear in page histories. He's a Patroller; his warnings can't be appealed. - Walkazo 14:11, 23 July 2015 (EDT)

Yeah, I'm already bringing it up with the other admins that those pages are less than ideal. - Walkazo 14:31, 23 July 2015 (EDT)

Blocked for 2 Weeks

After reviewing the IP information in-depth, your story that you were at a friend's house is plausible, however the second account started editing before you edited from your account, and started trolling you after you went out of your way to welcome then after they made 5 edits (the minimum for auto-confirmation, ignoring the 4-day requirement, but most people forget one or the other). Clearly, you knew it was your friend, yet you tried to play ignorant, and then the two of you alternated editing, apparently from the same computer. Whether or not it was you and your friend, or just you alone, the whole thing was clearly a coordinated attempt to get attention; either way, you deserve that Last Warning. The only reason you weren't punished further for your snide reaction to the warning was that the policy pages are outdated, however you should still know to not talk to Patrollers that way, and ignorance can't excuse you bothering a retired admin in an attempt to get the warning revoked, despite both 876 and myself, a Bureaucrat, making it clear that the warning was saying. Had you been an innocent victim, it would be understandable that you're "butthurt", but you're not: you're an impudent little liar, and this sort of behaviour is not tolerated around here. - Walkazo 17:41, 25 July 2015 (EDT)

The wiki pipeproject was abandoned because nobody used it and wikis aren't really the best platform for coordinating and discussing stuff. It was moved the forum, where it works much better. --Glowsquid (talk) 08:14, 21 August 2015 (EDT)

Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Hi. When the wiki is trying to cover something upcoming/brand new. You can't "shotgun" the edits as it'd prevent the information coming more quickly to the wiki. So please, let others continue to do what they are doing. Yoshi876 (talk)

Costume Mario proposal

Walkazo has some good guidelines to put up, I think it's a good compromise. I think you should restart or rewrite your proposal and rewrite following what Walkazo posted in the comments section. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 19:12, 15 September 2015 (EDT)

I think you should delete and reset all votes, since you drastically changed the proposal. Also, after you changed it, you should message all voters to let them know that the proposal has been changed BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 15:21, 16 September 2015 (EDT)
When you have reset your proposal due to drastic changes, that's a better measure. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 15:30, 16 September 2015 (EDT)/
It is. Even Walkazo wants you to reset the proposal. Don't worry too much, even if I did give you bad advice, you won't get into any punishment over it. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 16:04, 16 September 2015 (EDT)

Is it OK for me to do the edits to the Costume Mario page once this proposal has been solved, or do you want to do it? Personal image for CorrinPersonal Sig for CorrinPersonal image for Corrin 00:16, 18 September 2015 (EDT)

You can do it all if you want, but I've already got the code handy here if you want to use it. I was just experimenting with the code of the table, because I was curious about how your ideas and Walkazo's ideas would look on the actual table. Personal image for CorrinPersonal Sig for CorrinPersonal image for Corrin 18:39, 18 September 2015 (EDT)
Oh, so that's what you meant by 3x the size, I was just using the 45px coding on the sprites. I thought you were going to do 3x the size in the page's coding, not the images themselves, my mistake. In that case I'll change the background in the table's coding, and you can do the image resizing. How about that? Making sprites bigger, the easier way

Open notepad. Copy and paste the article's coding into notepad. Then, crtl f, go to replace, and type in the "find" table, "|center" (or whatever common value table images have,it could be merely ".png" and in the replace table, add "|center|30px". Select ok, and it will automatically generate the size parameters for all sprites. Make sure you preview changes first! I've done all of your Costume Mario sprites for you this way, and you've technically made my work harder since you inputted all of these inconsistent image values in them. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 17:21, 2 October 2015 (EDT)

No, keep doing what you were doing, Pyro Guy. - Walkazo 18:49, 2 October 2015 (EDT)
Just forget what I said. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 19:43, 2 October 2015 (EDT)
@Walkazo (talk) Too late for that- Niiue (talk) has done the whole thing. I feel that if I were to take any action, I would probably be discourteous towards him, so I'm gonna step back and let someone else sort it out.
@Baby Luigi (talk) It's fine, I would have done that anyway, (and I have done in the past) if I wasn't recommended to give them their accurate sizes. UserPyroGuy.png (T · C) 03:51, 3 October 2015 (EDT)
Oh, sorry to hear that. - Walkazo 18:51, 3 October 2015 (EDT)
I undid my edits to the page. I honestly wasn't thinking at the time (mostly because I got about an hour of sleep the whole week). Niiue (talk) 21:28, 3 October 2015 (EDT)

BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 00:30, 14 October 2015 (EDT)

By the way, the project may end up operating on a deadline. If five votes pass, the deadline for an unfeaturing is shown. So, we better act up to avoid going through a process of refeaturing the article. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 00:32, 14 October 2015 (EDT)
I think the images are fine the way they are. Some of them actually need to be removed for the article, since there's too much of them on there. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 14:46, 14 October 2015 (EDT)

Mario (Santa)'s map icon from Mario Kart Tour Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 17:10, 23 November 2015 (EST)

I believe you use Blender, correct? Well, I don't know what you did. I do like to see the image, but you can also provide me how you set it up, too, like how you position the lights. Anyway, if there is some aspect I've mentioned that seems unfamiliar to you, like raytracing or render quality, just look it up in Blender-related help and tutorials. Mario (Santa)'s map icon from Mario Kart Tour Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 17:51, 24 November 2015 (EST)
I'm not sure if Blender uses a layering system as Maya does (and I don't know if 3ds Max does it either) but the safest way to do things is just to save multiple copies of the file, so your original file is still there whenever you want a different pose or if you seriously screwed up.
With lights, I use point light and spot light; both work.
Maya wasn't my first program; 3DS Max was, but I attended a class that focuses on Maya, so I learned a few things from there. I do have Blender in my computer, but the interface is weird and not very friendly, and I don't use it much.
Your render looks decent!
Now model issues aside, now what? Mario (Santa)'s map icon from Mario Kart Tour Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 20:16, 25 November 2015 (EST)
Now, on the scene. Mario (Santa)'s map icon from Mario Kart Tour Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 20:34, 25 November 2015 (EST)

 • I resized the sprite heights to 48px, since a block tile is 16x16 pixels in Super Mario Maker. 16x3=48, so it would still follow the proposal's rule of having sprites be 3x their normal size. However, it seems that some costumes have a size of 24x24 pixels, and since 24x3=72, that would make the sprite quite large when displayed. RedYoshiMK7Signature.png M&SG (talk) 15:26, 24 November 2015 (EST)
 • Yeah I realized that problem after doing the image resizing. While resizing sprites to 3x their normal size does work out fine for 16x16 pixel sprites, larger sprites can be a problem if you don't want the sprites to appear too big on an article.
