|D-comment=The article has been expanded enough to increase by .5. However, there are still a few more problems, like minor game limits are not explained (the most possible damage a character can get is 999%, the player can set 1-99 lives, how much time can a player set in how many increments, or no more than 999 Coins can be collected). There is nothing that mentions that the player can gain points in Single-Player Mode or that there are records recorded in Mission Mode. I think room can be made on the missions template to tell whether the record is measured by time or KOs. Tournament Mode needs to be expanded a little more regarding pre-tourney options. I have also forgotten one of the most important things: Critic Reception by gameranking sources. More to be explained after these are solved.
|G-rating=3.5
|G-comment=There are still a few one liners, but I see that the majority of them are placed right under a section following many sub-sections. Instead of just pointing out the obvious, you should remove those sentences and let the sub-sections explain.
|I-rating=3.5
|I-comment=I must say that this hasn't been worked on much since I last reviewed (N/O). There should be more screenshots unique to the article and one of the images are still a bit small. It needs more images on the lower half of the article though.
|F-rating=3.5
|F-comment=Maybe another table for the courses/stages in classic and adventure mode. The Event Mode table looks a bit weird, though I'm not sure if that is intentional or not.
|FR-comment=This article is more improved from the last time and a little more might make it good enough to be nominated.

|A-comment=The different controls and modes are explained well and accurately. Very good quality without seeming overwhelming.
|D-rating=3.5
|D-comment=The General Moves section could be expanded, maybe adding some advanced tricks in addition to the basics. Some of the characters have long descriptions, while others just have one or two sentences. They should be even one way or the other. A few of the single-player modes could be expanded. A little more could go in the way of the Critical Reception sub-header, as I know there's a lot more the critics have said about the game.
|G-rating=2.5
|G-comment=Minor grammar mistakes, but they happen all over the article, particularly in the single player modes.
|I-rating=3.5
|I-comment=Great on the various pictures in the tables, but perhaps some screenshots of actual gameplay would work well here.
|F-rating=3.5
|F-comment=Good balancing of text and images in the first quarter of the article. Maybe implement a show/hide feature on the tables to make it seem less overwhelming. Event Match table looks a bit odd.
|FR-comment=Good article, just needs a bit of tweaking of grammar and expanding on some sections.

This is a featured article!

It represents the best of the best that the Super Mario Wiki has produced. If there are any edits that would improve the article's quality even further, make them.

Unlocking[edit]

Could somebody say how to unlock Dr. Mario and Luigi. YoshiFan 21:27, 4 November 2006 (EST)

For Luigi, play 800 Versus Matches. (There's another method, but it's complicated and I don't have time to explain it now.) For Dr. Mario, just beat Classic mode with Mario.Waluigi Freak 99 17:20, 28 January 2007 (EST)
Luigi is also unlockable by doing adventure mode and finishing the stage with a two in the seconds column (03:12:43). Luigi will then join the melee and kicks Mario away so he can fight you with Peach. Kill them both and Luigi's yours. But, next time, don't use the talk page for things like that on this wiki. Rewrite[edit]

Anything still to be covered, or can the rewrite template be removed? Cobold 11:34, 14 February 2007 (EST)

food[edit]

Food is from the Kirby series! Max2 (talk) in the Kirby games Kirby could eat various foods to increase his health. IF it says SSBM we should mention Kirby.

The trophy doesn't make any mention of the Kirby series. Besides, I believe there's at least one Pokémon food in the game, so I doubt all of it came from the Kirby series. --KPH2293 19:00, 6 March 2007 (EST)

OK... Max2 (talk) not starting an argument.

According to the guide, Food's first appearance is in SSBM. Phoenix Rider

I'm just saying, some of the food (cherries, soda/syrup lookin thing) are all Kirby while others (that white and black triangle-thing) is actually Pokemon (I think, maybe the TV show...) anyway, so not all of the food is Smash Original. and, they messed up before. Max2 (talk) listening to Onett theme on loop. Yay!

Or... maybe they are just regular food from no series in particular?Knife (talk) 20:39, 6 March 2007 (EST)

Exactly! but... the Cherries and soda/syrup holder-thing are Kirby. Max2 (talk) I am currently working in Operation:Fake Isyou. see Talk:Main Page for details.

That would be my guess, Knife. I think they're just generic food. Besides, cherries were also in Super Mario Bros. 2; that doesn't prove anything. Phoenix Rider

OK. Max2 (talk)

Shortening[edit]

The MediaWiki software has noted that the article is too long, which may cause editing problems with some browsers. It suggests splitting the article into several sections. It would be possible splitting the level information for the adventure mode and event matches to special pages. I also propose the Marioverse Character Moves to be removed. The characters' moves can be easily seen on their corresponding pages. - Cobold

I support removing the character's move, useless. Gofer

I feel it may be a good idea to move the special attacks to each character's respective page, under an "Attacks" section, or something of the like. --TotalSpaceshipGuy3 15:54, 8 May 2007 (EDT)
The special moves have been moved to the characters' pages. However, the article is still tagged as too long. What parts of it should be moved to special pages? (see also Special Paper Mario Pages) Event matches? - Cobold

There is no need to do anything to page. It happens to all long pages, like the Mario page. To prevent this problem, people with bad browsers should consider editing section by section.Knife (talk) 16:49, 29 July 2007 (EDT)

I agree with Knife on this one. Just edit section by section, it isn't that hard. My Bloody Valentine
Wow, didn't know how old this comment is? Of course, now I'm thinking the same way. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 03:18, 30 July 2007 (EDT)

Descriptions of Characters, Items and Stages[edit]

Currently, only the Marioverse items have a short description on this page. Shouldn't there be some kind of short description for all items, and for characters and stages, too? Their articles then can go in-depth. Something like on Super Mario Strikers was on my mind. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 09:23, 26 June 2007 (EDT)

Why does Jigglypuffs box have her japanese name? - Ultimatetoad

The images are official artwork which was most likely released on some Japanese official website. We can't edit the names now. Also look at Bowser's name (Koopa). - Cobold (talk · contribs) 09:10, 17 July 2007 (EDT)
What you see there is (if I remember right) the result of the Japanese Nintendo site's edits. We never were given a plain artwork for the secret characters. Stumpers! 03:08, 17 August 2007 (EDT)

Event Matches table[edit]

We apparently do have a MediaWiki bug in there, because the borders don't display properly. The same table looks fine when only using the Show Preview mode. Anyone have a solution? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 05:23, 9 August 2007 (EDT)

Isn't this the same thing that happened on my User Page? Well, kinda the same thing? My Bloody Valentine

New way to unlock Marth?[edit]

My friends and I were playing Super Smash when Marth suddenly came up (in VS, before Jiggs even) for no reason.

The memory was fairly new, but I think I know what happened: We got Marth by playing as all the defaults once. We played as Mario, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, DK, Link, Zelda/Shiek, Falcon, Fox, Pika, Ness, Kirby, the Ice Climbers, and Samus.

Someone wanna test this out?
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dodoman (talk).

Beating the Classic Mode with all default characters, or playing 400 VS matches.

So you didn't unlock him in one of those ways? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 07:52, 28 September 2007 (EDT)

Nopes. We had only played ten-ish matches, so I figured it was the mthod I stated above. -Dodo
It won't help us much if we don't know what caused it. Also, it sounds like a bug. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 14:28, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
Once again, the method that I stated above. If someone tried it, we'd know for sure. -User:dodoman
Wow, that's pretty neat. Probably a bug like Cobold said though, but I'll be sure to try that out. - Glitchmansig.PNG Glitchman (talk · contribs) Glitchmansig.PNG Glitchman

Okay, so I tried it a few times on different discs AND different Cubes (and one Wii), and it's worked each time. So, I can say that it is most definitely not a glitch. NMRodo

Why? A glitch can occur regularly and be on all discs and systems. Minus World appeared on all copies of the original Super Mario Bros. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 11:26, 23 December 2007 (EST)

Pffff, this is old new. Aside from playing a set number of VS match, you can unlock him by playing with each of the 14 starters characters at least once in VS mode, I unlocked him that way. Blitzwing

If it's confirmed, you can add it to the section. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 13:18, 23 December 2007 (EST)

Event Articles[edit]

Umm, do you think the event matches should have their own articles?
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Koopster 64 (talk).

Maybe one big article for all of them if the article gets too big? Stumpers! 15:54, 3 February 2008 (EST)
No, I don't think so. They are too minor. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 05:28, 4 February 2008 (EST)
I would agree with Stumper there. We have a List of Implied Characters about guys/creature that were only mentioned once throught the Mario series and then promplty forgotten. Since the events can sometimes feature things that are not anywhere else in the game (Dark Link for example), I think it would atleast make sense to have a list of 'em. Blitzwing (talk · gnome work)
Ehm, we do have a list of Event Matches on this very page? We already decided against creating articles on game modes (like "Classic Mode" or "Adventure Mode") because this would steal content from the pages of the games, making them superflous in the end. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 07:25, 4 February 2008 (EST)
Ah, 'K. Didn't see that list. --Blitzwing 07:30, 4 February 2008 (EST)

Stages icons[edit]

What happened to the series icons in the Stages section? --Trogga 15:45, 19 March 2008 (EDT)

I can't remember the article having them. I also don't think we should use any icons from Brawl on the Melee page. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 15:53, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
But how are we going to identify the stages' series? --Trogga 17:23, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
Is there a need for a sign? If people really don't know from what the stages are (I doubt that), they can check the stages' articles. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 17:38, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
The other lists have series identifiers. --Trogga 20:53, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
Each description of the stage in the table lists the game the stage is from, so I see no need in repeating what is already there. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 07:19, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
We could actually save some space by doing that with the characters and items, no? Stumpers! 17:15, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
Indeed we could. Would give the tables the same basic layout. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 17:21, 20 March 2008 (EDT)

Dropped Characters[edit]

I recently removed the trivia section by integrating it into the article, and that brought a bunch of source-less content to Cobold's attention. He removed it, and I just wanted to let everyone know that I have no source for it either; I was assuming that someone else would. In other words, there's nothing I can do to fix the problem, so if you believe teh information to be true, please take care of it yourself. Stumpers! 21:38, 16 April 2008 (EDT)

I don't think they should be in the article between playable characters and playable stages, which actually appear in the game. The page Beta Elements exists for that kind of content, so unless we're going to split it up, we should add the (sourced) information there, not here. There could be a shorter statement about "dropped characters" in the Trivia section, with a link to Melee's section on the Beta Elements page. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 08:40, 17 April 2008 (EDT)
Whatever works best. Hmm... I do believe this is an opportunity to hunt down some information about the game's developement and make a section about that... but I wouldn't know where to look for that kind of information. Stumpers! 17:04, 17 April 2008 (EDT)
When you say you need information about the game's development, do you mean how the game was created, who created it, when stages and characters were announced to be playable, etc.?? Glitchmansig.PNG Glitchman (talk · contribs) Glitchmansig.PNG
Not that in-depth in terms of revealing game elements, but more like the production schedule of the game, yeah. Like how it was created, etc. There's a little about this on the Brawl "Iwata Asks" but that's all I know of. Oh, and there's a version of the DOJO! that focused on Melee on the Japanese Nintendo website, but's in in Japanese. Stumpers! 17:23, 17 April 2008 (EDT)
OK. Well I don't know exactly where you could find that kind of info, but if you google "Super Smash Bros. Melee World", that's the website where they used to post updates on Melee, like Dojo. Then you could also see Wikipedia. Glitchmansig.PNG Glitchman (talk · contribs) Glitchmansig.PNG
Thanks! Stumpers! 19:05, 17 April 2008 (EDT)

The name "Brawl"[edit]

Brawl is just an english word. I don't think a random occurance on the box, which is not done by the game's creators but by marketing experts, means anything seven years afterwards. I'd remove that trivia. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 14:47, 3 July 2008 (EDT)

Master Hand Glitch[edit]

Should we mention the "Master Hand Glitch" where you can play as Master Hand? Please no replys like "You can play as Master Hand?! How?!" I just want to know if we should include this and take out the Master Hand part of the debug menu in trivia. Lemmy Koopa Fan (talk)

Glitch? I thought that happens if you hack the game. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 18:21, 26 August 2009 (EDT)

No, it's not really important. Previous Nintendo logo (2006-2016): In 2006, the logo's color scheme was changed from red to gray and the registered symbol was made more smaller.64Fan (Discussion)
