The track starts crossing a stone arch where the starting line is located. Taking the first turn to the right, a winding path filled with obeliscs and some Pokeys scattered over rough soil. Taking to the right again, the track leads to an oasis surrounging a large quicksand pool, where the Piranha Plant resides. Only running around it, players prevent to be pulled by the sand to the bottom, although it is possible to get out of the quicksand using [[drifting]]. After passing the oasis, a wide field filled with Pokeys and dunes is seen, where players reach the line after beating all the obstacles in the course.
The track starts crossing a stone arch where the starting line is located. Usually, there is a straight path where the finish line is; Dry Dry Desert is no different. After the straight dirt path is a curve to the right. The roads twists moderately with some Pokeys to the left and right. The player may use a Mushroom to cut through the sand in this area, but has to watch out for falling obelisks, which may slow the player down if he/she plans to cut through this area.

Additionally, players shouldn't go into rhough soil. This only cause karts to slow down or also immobilize completely the vehicle, bringing Lakitu to take the kart away from the dangerous sands.
After the twisty road is a curve right and into a path, which splits into two identical ones. In the center of the path is a giant sand pit, which will lure any player into the center of it. If the player happens to be in this location, he/she will get gobbled up by a [[Quicksand Piranha Plant]] occupying the center of the pit, very much like straying too offcourse or falling down. The left and right paths wind around this very circular pit.

After the pit is two statues, and a curve right. Two Pokeys are standing next to each other, with an item box occupying in between the two Pokeys. There is a turn right after the two Pokeys and an item box, which leads into a large area with many dunes, often with item boxes on top of them. One large Pokey can first be seen and after, two large Pokeys with item boxes directly next to them.

After the dune area is a curve right that leads straight, until the course starts again, which is the finish line. More obelisks and a generic sphinx can be seen in the background while the player is turning right into the straight path that leads into the finish line.

Additionally, players shouldn't go into soil. This only cause karts to slow down or also immobilize completely the vehicle if the player goes too far into the rough sand, bringing Lakitu to take the kart away from the dangerous sands.

Various ruins and pyramids are in the background, unlike the area in Paper Mario.

After the twisty road is a curve right and into a path, which splits into two identical ones. In the center of the path is a giant sand pit, which will lure any player into the center of it. If the player happens to be in this location, he/she will get gobbled up by a Quicksand Piranha Plant occupying the center of the pit, very much like straying too offcourse or falling down.
