Both teams use a Hop-O-Matic 4000, which have four legs with plunger-like feet as well as a faceplate with extensions resembling antennae. The opening shows the Red Team activating theirs to get to the start.

Introduction
The players on both teams alternate pressing buttons to move their Hop-O-Matic 4000 while trying to cross the finish line first. Pressing a wrong button incapacitates the team for about a second. Either team wins by reaching the end first, after doing six hops. If either both teams end at once or the objective is not met by five minutes, it is a tie.
The Red Team activates its Hop-O-Matic 4000's four legs and makes the first hop at the starting area. The screen splits in half, revealing the other team.

Gameplay
The goal of the game is to move the Hop-O-Matic 4000 across a town to the finish line by pressing the buttons that appear onscreen. The players on each team alternate pressing buttons. If one player makes a mistake, the team is slowed down for a second. It takes precisely six hops to get to the finish line (excluding the one that is done in the introduction). The first team to make it there wins. If five minutes pass or both teams cross the finish line simultaneously, the game ends in a tie.

Ending
Confetti rains down, while several Goombas and Shy Guys rejoice in the background to the winners as they make victory poses in front of a fountain with their Hop-O-Matic moving. If five minutes pass, all the characters do their losing poses in their vehicles, which remain still. This also happens if a team is close to the finish when five minutes pass, where the finish line disappears during all this.

The ending shows confetti falling on the winning players as they do their victory poses, while Goombas and Shy Guys celebrate and their Hop-O-Matic moves in the background. If there is a draw, all players do their losing poses in their motionless vehicles.
