"The Legend" is a two-page mini-story released in the Nintendo Comics System series in Super Mario Bros. Special Edition #1. It is a short adaption to the story of Super Mario Bros., explaining the backstory and how the Mario Bros. began their adventures as heroes.

Plot synopsis[edit]

In the magical Mushroom Kingdom, the Mushroom People live in peace, ruled by the Mushroom King and Princess Toadstool, until King Bowser Koopa starts attacking and kidnaps Toadstool. When Mario and Luigi hear Toadstool crying for help, they go to the Mushroom Kingdom and defeat Bowser, who vows to come back.
