...What are Zokket's pronouns again?

? Block from Super Mario World This talk page or section has a conflict or question that needs to be answered. Please try to help and resolve the issue by leaving a comment.

Articles on this wiki consistently refer to Zokket as a "he" or a "him". However, Zokket is eventually revealed to be a brainwashed alter-ego of Connie's mentor Cozette, who is definitely female, and thus is referred as "she" or "her"? Does that mean Zokket is also female the whole time, and thus should be referred with she/her pronouns like Cozette, or did Cozette go through a gender change when Reclusa brainwashed her? Did in-game characters actually refer to Zokket with he/him pronouns, and if so, did they assume that Zokket was male until they discovered that Zokket was Cozette, or do they still refer to Zokket as he/him even after the reveal?
The reason I'm asking this is that it seems a bit weird to me that an alter-ego appears to have a completely different gender compared to the original true identity (since we haven't seen this before in the Mario franchise when it comes to brainwashing or memory loss; we've seen this with possession, though, but Zokket isn't possessed by Reclusa), which means it's entirely possible us editors simply assumed Zokket was male based on incomplete or inaccurate evidence (to be fair, edit summaries suggest that Zokket's pronouns were shown in trailers prior to the game's release, which seems fair enough, but given that Zokket being Cozette is a big plot twist, who knows they were trying to obfuscate that?) Zokket is still referred to as male even after he is revealed to be a brainwashed Cozette (such as the story summary before his boss fight). Zokket as an alter ego / persona is male, even if his body is biologically female. Technetium (talk) 18:30, November 19, 2024 (EST)
I think we should still roll with it, it would still be contradicting what the game says if we started using feminine pronouns everywhere in reference to Zokket. Mario jumping Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8
