Purple Punchers, also known as Pink Mapu[1] or bashers,[1] are the second species of normal ghosts Luigi encounters in Luigi's Mansion and its remake. As the name implies, these ghosts try to damage Luigi by giving a left or right hook to him; 10 HP is lost for each successful uppercut punch. Luigi can stun Purple Punchers with his flashlight, and then suck them in with his Poltergust 3000. They can also be hurt by any of the three elements. Though Purple Punchers do not appear in any later installments of the Luigi's Mansion series, Hiders from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, and Oozers from Luigi's Mansion 3 behave similarly to them.

However, this was changed to 20 HP in the final version for unknown reasons, but was kept at 30 HP in the PAL and 3DS Hidden Mansion. Purple Punchers make a few minor appearances in other games of the Super Mario franchise. In Mario Power Tennis, Purple Punchers appear in the Luigi's Mansion court and Terror Tennis minigame. In Mario Sports Mix, Purple Punchers make their debut spectators to the many sporting events, and they can also be assistants to the players in the Luigi's Mansion stage.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, a Purple Puncher, along with a Gold Ghost and a Blue Twirler, appear together on a trophy of Ghosts from Luigi's Mansion.
