== Spike Bar/Spike Roller ==
You didn't specify what Toge Roller was on your notice on the Spike Bar page. All I can tell is that it refers to something in SM3DW; however, I do not know if it refers to just the things the Spikes spit out, the teeter-totter-platform based ones, or the Rolling Bones-spiked bar things in general from that game, including the spinning ones. Lots of variation, and those were just the behaviors that seemed relevant to the name. == RE:Hotel Mario Reviews ==
Well, according to the reception and sales policy, "Of course, reviews are not the only things that can be used for reception sections. Ranked lists, post-mortem articles and the like can also illustrate a given game's legacy. User scores on larger publications and Nintendo's own built-in systems (such as on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U) can also be used, especially if there's a noticeable discrepancy between critic and player reception." I bolded the last part because this is especially true with Hotel Mario, as its reception now is very different compared to its reception in 1994. Now, I know there's a "However..." after the quoted text, and I did already remove one review with borderline reliability, but like I said, this needs to be a case-by-case basis, especially because the RabbidLuigi review did have some Nintendo Life involvement. All in all, I think the sources as they are now do a good job at illustrating Hotel Marios negative reception. 18:25, 21 May 2018 (EDT)
:Even so, I'd like to see what other users think about this. I'm trying to make Hotel Mario a featured article, and will probably ask someone else to review the article, so who knows? Maybe they will be removed at some point. 19:47, 21 May 2018 (EDT)
== Mega == | |||
While "Mega" is a name Mega Man also goes by, in the Mario universe, it can refer to a few other things. Mega Mario, Mega Mushroom, and Mega Evolution immediately come to mind. Perhaps it should be a disambiguation page? 18:34, 22 May 2018 (EDT)
== Re-Examining Piscatory Pete ==
Hello. Is it true that Yoshi's New Island features underwater red Cheep Cheeps that simply move forward? Because that's roughly the blue Piscatory Pete's behavior, though it stops on occasion, while the golden ones move in long straight lines in a vague chasing behavior. Anyways, since the Japanese name for Pete translates to "Cheep Cheep (underwater)," I was wondering if merging might be the best option, since Cheep Cheeps are typically an underwater enemy anyway, and Pete closely resembles Cheep Cheep's off-model Super Mario World sprite (not to mention the huge string of off-model appearances Cheep Cheep would have following that, SMW2 included). They look pretty different from normal in the actual graphics, but in SMW2 gameplay itself, the underwater screen is so dark anyway the blue just looks like extra tinting for it. Furthermore, Cheep Cheeps are one of the most consistently-versatile enemies in terms of behavior, and the "Flopsy Fish" version already had at least five in that game alone. Anyways, I'd like to figure out which levels in YNI have underwater Cheep Cheeps, as the enemy lists in the level articles seem to be incomplete. I already know a green one existed in that fortress level with the Spray Fish and Hooties, but there are more than that, I assume? Anyways, I'd also like to move the YNI info from the Deep Cheep article to the regular Cheep Cheep article, unless its behavior is actually a bit more like the golden Pete's, whose behavior could be misinterpreted as "a wide wavy pattern" at a glance. The picture I got of the green Cheep from that game was from a video of the aforementioned fort, and it only appeared for about a second before the player torpedo-blasted them, making it so I couldn't investigate its behavior further. That was also the only one in the level. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:14, 24 May 2018 (EDT)
:I read the original story as well, and it just seemed like a silly little thing that the comic writers came up with on the spot due to small amounts of ideas (like Toad's melodramatic suicidalism in the beginning). Anyways, using the cartoon to tell stuff about a game character is very risky. Yoshi's not a "Yoshisaur," he's just a Yoshi. You might as well say that Goriyas are some sort of Pika-Walrus instead of canids, since that's how the Captain N cartoon portrayed them. (And that's not getting into the "Coppie" situation, and the same franchise contained the inconsistently portrayed Moblins, but anyways. Bowser's no crocodile.) ::Mouser was just a "mouse" in NCS, iirc. Anyways, he was technically a species in the game, with YK:DDP having three variants and SMB2 having 2. The SNES and GBA versions admittedly got rid of the color variation. Aaaanyways, I admittedly have a little beef with Zeldawiki's handling of things (note the inconsistency between how Koppi is treated as Goriya, yet Zazack is treated separate from Daira, despite what Arts & Artifacts says), but I suppose this is not the place for talking about that. Still better than the old "official" site. (Also, I had been working on getting YNI screenshots to use in an enemy section, an emulator would certainly be better, the preliminary file names I was going to use are here, if you're interested.) Don't the names from that site trump the internal file names? It's definitely not a new recording. The change in tempo mean little since vocal songs in WarioWare change pitch along with the microgame speed. The game has all of the vocal songs from previous games, and all of the songs originating from the GBa and DS installments also sound different - and there's no way they wasted time and money rerecording nearly a dozen songs in multiple languages to make cleaner-sounding but very similar recordings instead of just using the master audio with better compression. --Glowsquid (talk) 23:35, 28 July 2018 (EDT)

== Conceptual Derivative ==
There's a lot of gray area with that, I've found. We might need to make a new parameter or two for situations like this. Strollin' Stu is a conceptual derivative of Goomba, for example (note how the unused "Kug" fits pretty well in between them in terms of design), but we currently don't even list it as a related species. In addition, the Needlenose's Japanese name also applies on Cactus Jack (Mato Sanbo) which means Target Pokey. :Yeah, such as Spiked Fun Guy is green has the same eyes of a normal Pokey, has lesser, bigger and white spikes and lacks a mouth, only "walking". Needlenose, being with smaller black and more spikes, has small separate eyes, and smiles. Unlike Spiked Fun Guys which only come in green, Needlenose come either in green or yellow. The Spiked Fun Guy's description was a bit confusing since it says that it was dropped by Baron von Zeppelins while this never happened in-game, while it's actually Needlenose. Needlenoses don't either have their own description. Similarly, Coin Bandits aren't having their own entry, but are pink instead of light blue notably. Twilight City
I see you tagged Twilight City with the construction template earlier, implying you would work on it. It was added in mid-2017, and not much has changed. Since I've been working on the Mario vs. Donkey Kong pages, I thought I'd ask if I could work on the Twilight City page first rather than just go ahead with it. 19:30, 5 April 2018 (EDT)

Fat Guy
Hello, what unusual name is the Yoshi's Universal Gravitation Nintendo DREAM guidebook giving to Fat Guy? I recall when I Google Translated the Japanese Wikipedia's articles for Engrish lels, I noticed that they had the two separate, and it seems there is a naming difference here from the SMA3 guide. I just don't know enough Japanese to know what it is. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:18, 11 April 2018 (EDT)
- All right, should they be split, then? King Debuhō's artwork from Topsy-Turvy was reused for Fat Guy's Yoshi's Island DS artwork, it seems. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:13, 16 April 2018 (EDT)
"Super Bowser"
You said here that you had seen Bowser's giant form called "Super Bowser" in a Prima guide. It seems I've been wrong this whole time about it ever being called Giant Bowser in the M&L games. Do you know if the form was ever referred to in another guide? It would be good info for a proposal I'm planning on making to deal with the article.

Was it intentional to say that the Japanese name came from the New Super Mario Bros. U section? I just found that odd. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 11:30, 25 April 2018 (EDT)
Beta Wario World
I was considering changing what he had put myself, but reconsidered, as it was specific to the E3 2002 build. Was that not a beta build? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:25, 30 April 2018 (EDT)
Mega Goomba
Should Mega Goomba just remain as a redirect, or should it be deleted and the boss moved over it with an about template? Because I'm thinking that's the preferable scenario.... Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:19, 1 May 2018 (EDT)
- And how do we know that the Mario Party one is just intended to be a Big Goomba and not its own entity? Mega Sledge Bro, Mega Monty Mole, and Mega Blooper seemed more like individuals, or at least to the degree that Raphael the generic enemy Raven was. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:26, 1 May 2018 (EDT)
Carbo Cookie
Hi, can you perhaps verify that which is going on with the Carbo Cookie page, particularly with the link given here? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:59, 6 May 2018 (EDT)

Spike Bar/Spike Roller
You didn't specify what Toge Roller was on your notice on the Spike Bar page. All I can tell is that it refers to something in SM3DW; however, I do not know if it refers to just the things the Spikes spit out, the teeter-totter-platform based ones, or the Rolling Bones-spiked bar things in general from that game, including the spinning ones. Lots of variation, and those were just the behaviors that seemed relevant to the name. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 04:58, 15 May 2018 (EDT)
- Probably. I mean, Cheep Cheeps can do just about anything in many single game appearances, so it wouldn't be a stretch for other things to follow the same basic principle. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:52, 15 May 2018 (EDT)
RE:Hotel Mario Reviews
All in all, I think the sources as they are now do a good job at illustrating Hotel Mario's negative reception. (T|C) 18:25, 21 May 2018 (EDT)
- Even so, I'd like to see what other users think about this. I'm trying to make Hotel Mario a featured article, and will probably ask someone else to review the article, so who knows? Maybe they will be removed at some point. (T|C) 19:47, 21 May 2018 (EDT)
Mega
While "Mega" is a name Mega Man also goes by, in the Mario universe, it can refer to a few other things. Mega Mario, Mega Mushroom, and Mega Evolution immediately come to mind. Perhaps it should be a disambiguation page? 18:34, 22 May 2018 (EDT)
Re-Examining Piscatory Pete
- I read the original story as well, and it just seemed like a silly little thing that the comic writers came up with on the spot due to small amounts of ideas (like Toad's melodramatic suicidalism in the beginning). Bowser's no crocodile.) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:46, 24 May 2018 (EDT)
- Mouser was just a "mouse" in NCS, iirc. (Also, I had been working on getting YNI screenshots to use in an enemy section, an emulator would certainly be better, the preliminary file names I was going to use are here, if you're interested.) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:08, 25 May 2018 (EDT)
- Oh tell me about it. I've been a regular ZeldaWiki reader for a very long time, and that page is actually where I learned about that site some years back. Back when all we had of SS were the early artworks.... Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:29, 5 June 2018 (EDT)

DK64 German guide answer
This is an album of scans from the guide on Imgur.
It's only a segment/preview from the whole guide, as evidenced by the second-to-last scan where part of the adjoined page peeks in, without wholly appearing in any other scans of the album. Therefore, there might be more to look into, but for all we know there's no Seal on any of the pages in the album. I suggest contacting the person who originally brought up the Glimmer thing and the collection of scans on the DK Vine forum. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 05:38, 13 June 2018 (EDT)
Jungle Beat boss species
Don't the names from that site trump the internal file names? I think they work better as the article titles anyways, due to the amount of individuals using them being greater than the amount of derived species on each. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:42, 28 June 2018 (EDT)
- Like I said, the few enemy mooks based off of them still seem like they would take less priority over the four individuals each named for the English term also used on the site. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:48, 28 June 2018 (EDT)
Further questions
Is the transliteration "Roger Lift" correct for the blue Blarggwich-like thing? The ref is on the Blarggwich page. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:40, 3 July 2018 (EDT)
- Can you take a look at the new reference I added to the Harry Hedgehog page for an illustration? I believe it is from an official guide of some sort, but I'm not sure which. The art is definitely official. Anyways, it appears to show screenshots from the original SNES version, but if the caption is any indication, it was already "Super Harimannen" by that point. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:30, 14 July 2018 (EDT)
- In the Shogakukan images, I'm also noticing that the sprite for Puchipuchi L is not the second smallest Marching Milde variation, but the second largest (after the whole one), as made blatantly clear by the detailed foot shape. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 03:10, 17 July 2018 (EDT)
- In regards to Spear Guy and Bamboo Dancers, Boomerang Bros. are derived from Hammer Bros, yet don't have hammers themselves, Bamboo Dancers seem to be a similar situation. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:22, 17 July 2018 (EDT)
- Still, these as well seem to be clearly derived from Spear Guy. while their art depicts them completely different, in their sprites one can clearly see the ='.'= war paint and the grass skirts that Spear Guys wear. And again, their "limbo sticks" seem to be a specialized stand-in for spears anyways. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:42, 17 July 2018 (EDT)

Donkey Kong source
The closest I can give to an actual source is this: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/DonkeyKong
"Common Knowledge: Miyamoto confirming that DK was Mario's and Pauline's pet who they abused. What he actually said was that he found DK's original design too hideous and frightening, and so redesigned him to be harmless and friendly-looking "Like he was somebody's pet"."
Unfortunately, I can't provide the exact quote elsewhere because whenever I tried to do that, it just doesn't come up on Bing's search engine beyond TVTropes, and I made sure to use quotes. That's all I can say on that matter. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 15:11, 20 July 2018 (EDT)
re:Ashley's song
re: https://www.mariowiki.com/index.php?title=Ashley%27s_Song&curid=121130&diff=2472022&oldid=2471987 I actually wrote "remastered" with the intended meaning of "the master audio as it sounds like when it's not being dragged through the seven floors of compression hell and mercilessly beaten by the DS sound chip", but yeah, the other guy is right.

Conceptual Derivative
There's a lot of gray area with that, I've found. We might need to make a new parameter or two for situations like this. Strollin' Stu is a conceptual derivative of Goomba, for example (note how the unused "Kug" fits pretty well in between them in terms of design), but we currently don't even list it as a related species. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:03, 22 August 2018 (EDT)
- Well Stu is still a Kuri-, much like Goomba, Galoomba, and Goom. I think I brought up that point about Galoombas as well, but ended up changing it back for the aforementioned reasons. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:22, 22 August 2018 (EDT)
Source of Needlenose Plant name.
Have you any manuals where the Egg-Plant that spit out Needlenoses is refered as "Needlenose-Plant"? --83.156.220.80 11:39, 23 August 2018 (EDT)
- No problem, if it splits, then it should be called "Sanbo Flower". And for Solo Toady, should Green Toady and Solo Toady be split? If so, think about editing the redirection. --83.156.220.80 11:47, 23 August 2018 (EDT)

Super Mario: The first 30 years
Speaking of Super Mario: The first 30 years it include information about Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Story, Yoshi Topsy-Turvy Yoshi Touch & Go and Yoshi's New Island or will it just talk about the Mario series? To make it clear, new official english names will be announced on this book and you said here that many things will have a proper official english name. --83.156.220.80 06:43, 24 August 2018 (EDT)
- It might fix those names, or Dark Horse could do what they did in Arts & Artifacts (which was just a tad disappointing....why are Nintendo suddenly trying to call Horsehead and Helmethead by bad romanizations of their Japanese names, particularly when the former's Japanese name translates more to the original English name? Befuddling.) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:29, 24 August 2018 (EDT)
- Not to mention why that would count as some sort of "canon overwrite" but "Zazack" being listed as "Daira" twice in the book be simply "mistaken." Of course, that's not even getting into the Goriya situation.... Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:18, 26 August 2018 (EDT)

What do you think about Huffin Puffin?
Should we split Huffin Puffin and Fluffin' Puffin? The adult Huffin Puffin unlike previously, gets killed if stepped on (it was formely bouncing on it and then runs away). The chicks were redesigned, they lack the light blue pants with yellow spots and buttons, feet, and instead of all that, they have green spots on them. They also have a different characteristic. Instead of Boomeranging back and reusable to you, the leave a line that serves as a platform behind them. So, should these two be split? Accordingly, they also have a different Japanese name. -- Yoshi! Wanna discuss? My contributions! 10:50, 28 August 2018 (EDT) Should we start a proposal? I feel like it! -- Yoshi! Wanna discuss? - You said that Solo Toadies and Green Toadies were basically the same, but Solo Toadies don't have an entry in this guide, nor said in the Green Toady's. I wanted to be sure if it described both. Hmmm... They both wear shoes (explained that their feet have a different color to their skin) as opposed to the barefeet Toadies. -- Yoshi! Wanna discuss? Needlenose's Japanese name
In addition, the Needlenose's Japanese name also applies on Cactus Jack (Mato Sanbo) which means Target Pokey. The only differences (in physical appearance) is that the Cactus Jack is 2 times larger than a Needlenose, is beige instead of either yellow, or green and has a Target on its chest. What do you think about my new signature? -- FanOfYoshi 12:58, 11 September 2018 (EDT)
- Yeah, such as Spiked Fun Guy is green has the same eyes of a normal Pokey, has lesser, bigger and white spikes and lacks a mouth, only "walking". Anyways, does it mentions the Coin Bandit, here and here? I don't think on the first one but i can't read Japanese. Is it on both? -- FanOfYoshi 13:29, 11 September 2018 (EDT)

- Huffin Puffins in these games differ a bit from previously, as if you jump on it, it wouldn't tend to run away/you bounce on them, but they get killed as if they were enemies. Chicks redesign:

- Lack of yellow spotted and buttoned light blue pants, lack feet, but instead of all of that, they have green spots.
Their functionality is also different as they aren't always found with an adult, they may be found alone, or on nests. They no longer Boomerang and throwing one make it gone, and leaves a trail of fluff where it was thrown. I rather use option 3 despite all of that. -- FanOfYoshi 11:17, 12 September 2018 (EDT)
