Apparently, this was planned to be expanded. However, i didn't notice the "Do nothing" option, which could also have saved the page. Is this page even necessary?[edit]
I'm not sure how something this generic deserves to have its own article. It's just a cursor, nothing more. Shall we delete it? (T|C) 19:23, 3 December 2018 (EST)
- Merge it with the section on the SNES article regarding the mouse, I'd say. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:27, 3 December 2018 (EST)
- Perhaps we could instead create on article for pointers/other navigational things , such as the pointer in the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch version of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker as this would likely be an exepction in generic subjects policy as pointers/other navigational things uses vary. Delete or expand this page[edit]

Given the content on this page, it would normally qualify as a generic subject, and should therefore be deleted.
However, in light of Doomhiker's suggestion above, I'd say that we should likely expand this article. Other games such as Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario 3D World, and the 3DS/Switch versions of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker make extended use of a "cursor" which might be worth documenting since it's potentially less generic. If that happens, I say we rename this page to Cursor and use {{main}} to link to Star Cursor.
Otherwise, I'd propose deleting it as a generic subject.

Delete[edit]
- Toadette the Achiever (talk) My preferred option.
- Waluigi Time (talk) It's a standard cursor and doesn't need an article.
- Alex95 (talk) - Unless this is the official name, I don't see much point to this article to begin with. It's a standard mouse cursor. Merging the other cursors to this page would likely still qualify it as a generic subject, as all they do is point, click, and other things a standard cursor can do (except for the Star Cursor, which can do a bit more).
- GrainedCargo192 (talk) I don't see why there is an article about this, it's pretty much useless having an article about a plain cursor.
- TheFlameChomp (talk) Per Alex95. I also feel the Star Cursor should remain on its own article.
- WeirdDave13 (talk) Per all
- bwburke94 (talk) Per all.
- Scrooge200 (talk) Per all.
- Mario jc (talk) Doesn't seem like there's an official name for it judging by the comments, so sure. Per TheFlameChomp.
- Bazooka Mario (talk) You got a point. I don't see much point to this pointer.
Expand[edit]
- Toadette the Achiever (talk) Second choice. P.S.: If you vote here, please tell me what you think should be included in this article.
- Doomhiker (talk) Per my comment in the discussion above I personally think that there is enough unique uses of the curser to warrant a full article. As for cursers that should definitely be included in the article if this option passes would include the curser from 3DS/Switch versions of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, as that curser can stun enemies and throw turnips, and also the curser from Super Mario 3D World, with its ability being similar from the curser for Captain Toad (except for the turnip-trowing capabilities). Another potential curser to be included in this article would be the cursers from the Super Mario Galaxy series, with its ability to trow Star Bits. Potentially the curser from Super Mario Maker could also get in due to its ability to change the look of the hand, but that probably would still qualify as a generic subject.
- FanOfYoshi (talk) Per all. Doc von Schmeltwick mentioned that it could be merged with the SNES section though. (possibly if the delete section wins)
Leave as is[edit]
Comments[edit]
@Doomhiker The SMG one is called the Star Cursor, which has an article. Mario JC 19:02, 4 December 2018 (EST)
I don't see why Star Cursor has to be merged to a generic "Cursor" page when it has an official name of its own. My point was the "Cursor" page could use {{main}} to link to Star Cursor. Mario JC 19:45, 4 December 2018 (EST)
- Is there any source for the name Stripe Pointer? -- FanOfYoshi 03:55, 11 December 2018 (EST)
- A quick Google search found only one non-Mario Wiki use of the term, which is probably copied from us anyway. Niiue (talk) 04:04, 11 December 2018 (EST)
- A search on the engine I used (with the quotation marks) found a few uses on a cursor-based website, suggesting it may be a valid generic phrase for striped cursors. The Fun with Numbers manual, however, just calls it "the onscreen pointer." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:50, 12 December 2018 (EST)
- @Niiue: Everything on that page links back to us, so yeah, it's not valid. 12:51, 16 December 2018 (EST)
