'''Mario Tornado''' was a [[Special Moves|special move]] that [[Mario]] could use in ''[[Super Smash Bros.]]'' and ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]'', and he will use it again in upcoming ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'' as a normal attack.  After pressing B and tilting the control stick in the down position, Mario would spin around, suck the foe in, spin them silly, and then spit them out, damaging opponents, in a similar fashion to [[Luigi]]'s [[Luigi Cyclone]]. The move is powerful, but is best used when surrounded by opponents. Mario Torando unlike Luigi Cyclone cannot move very far. The Mario Tornado is replaced as his down special move by [[FLUDD|F.L.U.D.D.]] in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]''. Mario Tornado will still be one of his normal attacks, however, possibly done in the air.

Mario has two similiar moves to the Mario Tornado, the [[Spin Jump]], and the [[Star Spin]].

As a result, Mario loses a recovery option, but Mario Tornado's hits link better, and the final hit inflicts greater knockback.

Mario Tornado is Mario's down special move in Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee. When this move is used, Mario spins rapidly to hit opponents multiple times and finishes with a full-body stretch that deals a single, high-knockback hit which can meteor smash in Super Smash Bros. If the special button is pressed rapidly, Mario can rise up in the air slightly. Luigi's down special, Luigi Cyclone, and Dr. Mario's down special, Dr. Tornado, are based on this move.

Since Super Smash Bros. Brawl, F.L.U.D.D. has replaced the Mario Tornado as Mario's down special, though this move was still kept as Mario's down aerial move. As a result, Mario loses a recovery option, but Mario Tornado's hits link better, and the final hit inflicts greater knockback.
