Fishbones are swimming skeletons of fish in Super Mario World. They swim in a straight line heading to the left and cannot be defeated. Yoshi can't eat them and of course fireballs don't work against the undead. They swim slowly so avoiding them is easy.

They could be dead forms of Cheep-Cheeps and/or Blurps.

They're possibly related to Jean de Fillet from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
