Like its driver, Mario, the Red Fire has average stats and is ideal for beginners. The kart has a red and blue paint job, having Mario's trademark letter M on the top of the kart and wheels that say "Mario & Luigi". It reflects Mario's color scheme, with blue tires and an overall red body.
The Red Fire is well balanced with no major flaws. However, when compared to the Waluigi Racer (a kart with similar stats), the Red Fire is thinner, lighter (the Red Fire's weight is tied with the Heart Coach and Barrel Train), and less vulnerable to shells and other items.
Although the stars list its acceleration as three, the Red Fire's acceleration is actually tied alongside the Turbo Birdo, Bullet Blaster, and Parade Kart. It also shares the same top speed as the Waluigi Racer. In terms of off-road, the Red Fire is tied with the Bloom Coach and Turbo Birdo, being ranked second worst of all middleweight karts; only the Green Fire's off-road is worse.
The Red Fire's counterpart is the Green Fire, which is Luigi's kart. Both share the same engine sound with the Bullet Blaster.
