'''[[wikipedia:Metroid (series)|Metroid]]''' is a [[Nintendo]] produced [[video game]] series designed by [[Gunpei Yokoi]]The series chronicles female bounty hunter [[Samus Aran|Samus Aran's]] adventures regarding the Space Pirates and the parasitic Metroid alien.  Although it began as a weapon-based platformer, the series has recently moved into a first-person shooter genre with the ''Metroid Prime'' line of titles.

Several major characters, items, and locations from the series have crossed-over into the ''[[Mario (series)|Super Mario]]'' video game series and have been documented below.

[[Image:Brinstar Brawl.jpg|thumb|The '''Brinstar''' stage. The substance and bacteria that can split the stage.]]
'''Brinstar''' is one of the main areas on [[Planet Zebes]] in the Metroid series, of which [[Samus Aran]] is the main character. It appears as as an acid-filled stage in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]''. A Chozo Statue would rise to life occasionally in Brinstar. A related level is [[Brinstar Depths]]. The stage reappears in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'' as a Past Stage.

It also appears in Adventure Mode, where the player must battle Samus. After the battle, the planet begins to self-destruct, and the player must escape by jumping on the platforms above.

'''Brinstar Depths''' is a part of [[Brinstar]] in the game ''Metroid''. It was the location of [[Kraid]]'s hideout. It also appears as a stage in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]''. As the name suggests, it takes place underneath Brinstar. The stage starts off on a large rock type platform (players stay here the whole time). There are few floating rocks, which players can jump at times. However, this may be dangerous, as the rocks are small.
=Diddy Kong (COMPLETED by {{User:M&amp;SG/sig}})=

Every once in a while, Kraid will come into the background. He will knock into the platform, making it turn. This can be very dangerous, as the player could end up falling off by accident. Very rarely, the platform will tilt all the way around in one go. Kraid can also rarely hit a player if he or she is in the way of the slash. Other than that, there isn't really any other gimmicks worth of note.

==Frigate Orpheon==
{{main|Frigate Orpheon}}
[[Image:Frigate_Orpheon.jpg|thumb|left|'''Frigate Orpheon'''.]]
'''Frigate Orpheon''' is the name of the first ship [[Samus Aran|Samus]] infiltrates in ''Metroid Prime'', as well as a stage in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]''.  The Parasite Queen, the first boss of ''Metroid Prime'', appears in the background. Acting as a somewhat small stage, it is made up of one long platform, with another smaller platform hovering above on one side, and another that moves up and down. On occasion, the lights in the ship will go off, leaving the players blinded, with only the platform lights to guide the way. Another hazard is the stage's occasional rotation. Every now and then, after the siren goes off, the platforms will flip 180 degrees, causing any player on the stage to fall. However, the players don't move with the stage, so they must try to stay in the air as the second platform appears. The second platform is just as long, but with a smaller platform hovering in the middle, not the side, and two platforms hovering beneath the main platform.  These two lower platforms periodically move off-screen.

==Kraid==
[[Image:Ssbmstagesbrinstardepths.jpg|thumb|right|'''Kraid''' in [[Brinstar Depths]].]]
'''Kraid''' is a dragon-like monster that normally appears in the Metroid series as an enemy of [[Samus Aran]]. [[Mario]] can encounter this beast in the [[Brinstar Depths]] level in the game ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]''. Kraid will rise out of the magma and rotate the stage by hitting it, sending [[player]]s who are not quick enough into the magma pit for a KO.

A [[trophy]] of Kraid can also be obtained in ''Super Smash Bros. Melee'' by unlocking the Brinstar Depths arena. Kraid also makes a cameo appearance in the [[Nintendo Monopoly]] board game.

''A boss enemy from Metroid. Kraid lives in the depths of Brinstar. He immobilizes enemies with his three red eyes, and his powerful jaws can crush anything. He can also shoot the three spikes in his belly; it's said he often fires them at his prey. Once Samus defeated Ridley and Kraid, the way to Tourian opened.''

==Mother Brain==
[[Image:Captain_N_baseball_056.jpg|thumb|'''Mother Brain''', as she appears in ''[[Captain N: The Game Master]]''.]]

'''Mother Brain''' is a large, biological computer resembling a cycloptic, spiked brain; Mother Brain is also an enemy of [[Samus Aran]] from the [[Wikipedia: Metroid (series)|''Metroid'' series]] of games.
=Fox McCloud (COMPLETED BY {{User:R.O.B 128/sig}})=

Mother Brain's first mention in the ''[[Mario (series)|Mario]]'' series was in the [[Nintendo Comics System]] issue "[[Duh Stoopid Bomb!]]", where her name (abreviated to '''M. Brain''') can be seen on [[Wooster]]'s list of people who think [[King Toadstool]] is dumb.
=Ganondorf (COMPLETED by {{User:M&SG/sig}})=

Mother Brain is also briefly mentioned by Samus in ''[[Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars]]'', who claims to be "resting up for Mother Brain".
=Ice Climbers (COMPLETED by {{User:M&amp;SG/sig}})=

In ''[[WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!]]'' one of [[9-Volt]]'s microgames has the player, as Samus, battling Mother Brain in a reanactment of the final battle in ''[[Wikipedia: Metroid|Metroid]]''. Players must blast Mother Brain repeatedly with missiles and dodge her own attacks in order to defeat her.

==Norfair==
{{main|Norfair}}
[[Image:Norfair.jpg|thumb|left|'''Norfair'''.]]
'''Norfair''' is the name of a location on [[Planet Zebes]] in the ''Metroid series'', and a stage in the game, ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]''. Similar to the Planet Zebes and [[Brinstar]] stages from the last two ''[[Super Smash Bros. (series)|Super Smash Bros.]]'' games, the [[lava]] in this stage rises up from below. However, unlike the the last two Metroid stages, Norfair's lava can come in from any direction. It may rise from the bottom of the stage, the sides of the stage, and even behind the stage. In the case of the lava coming from behind, the only way to escape it is by hiding away in a hatch that will appear on a random platform of the stage. Only one hatch will appear, however, so the players will have to fight for the hatch. After an extended period of time, the hatch will close, and the lava from behind will hit, damaging any players trapped outside. However, if the players locked outside jump high enough, they can just barely dodge it, but it's difficult to accomplish.
<br clear=all>
==Planet Zebes==
{{main|Planet Zebes}}
[[Image:SSBPlanetzebes.gif|thumb|'''Planet Zebes'''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s appearance in ''Super Smash Bros.''.]]

'''Zebes''' is a planet seen in the ''Metroid'' series. It is the main setting of the first game in the series, ''Metroid''. The surface is mostly barren and the underground is riddled with large caverns.
=Ivysaur (COMPLETED BY {{User:R.O.B 128/sig}})=

Planet Zebes also appears as a stage in ''[[Super Smash Bros.]]''. It is a rather small stage, and it is easy to get blasted off of it. The only other feature is the acid, that rises up about every 30 Seconds. The acid will rise up, and damage any player who touches it. After a while, it will rise up so high that only the center platform, which is also the tallest, is safe. Samus is always fought here in 1-P Mode.

==Power Suit==

[[Image:Samus 070718e.jpg|thumb|[[Zelda]] throwing parts of the '''Power Suit'''.]]
The '''Power Suit''' is one of [[Samus Aran]]'s suits from the ''Metroid'' series. When she uses her [[Final Smash]], the [[Zero Laser]], and turns into [[Zero Suit Samus]] during the game ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'', her armor falls off and can be thrown at other players. It is unknown if the suit will be left on the ground for the whole battle or if it will just be for a short time, like most other items.

'''Ridley''' is a dragon-like alien that is one of the main villains in the ''Metroid'' series of video games.  He is responsible for the murder of [[Samus Aran]]'s parents. In ''[[Super Smash Bros.]]'', Ridley can occasionally be seen flying in the background of the [[Planet Zebes]] arena.

Ridley also makes a brief appearance in the opening cinematic of ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]'', where he can be seen battling his archenemy, [[Samus Aran]]. A [[trophy]] of Ridley can also be obtained in ''Super Smash Bros. Melee''.

'''Screw Attack''' in an important item in the Metroid series. They are also used as weak items in the game, ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]''. If a player were to press A near a Screw Attack, he/she would pick it up. If the player were to jump with one in his/her hand, the jump would be very similar to [[Samus Aran|Samus's]] third jump, which is also named [[Screw Attack (move)|Screw Attack]]. Also, if there was another player around the player who jumped with a Screw Attack, that player would take minor damage. These items can also be thrown into another player for minor damage, though the jumps are often led to combos. Also, when thrown, anyone it hits will automatically perform a Screw Attack. Although this hurts them, if they are close to other players when hit, they will hurt them as well. The item will return in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]''. However, now, when it is picked up, it attaches itself to the player, much like the [[Franklin Badge]]. This allows a player to use the Screw Attack's powers, while using another item, but does not allow them to throw it at others.

''One of Samus Aran's power-ups from the original Metroid, the Screw Attack turns a jump into a rotating attack move. When carrying this item, any character's ordinary jump move will turn into a Screw Attack. By the same token, if you throw this item at an enemy, your foe will spontaneously do a Screw Attack.''

''A badge you can wear to turn your jumps into Samus's signature Screw Attacks. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, it was an item you carried, but this time around it's a badge you wear--which means you can use it and another item at the same time. There's a good chance you'll be able to string together Screw Attacks and midair strikes for powerful combos.''

'''Zero Suit Samus''' is an alternate form of [[Samus Aran|Samus]]; she is released from her Power Suit by using her [[Final Smash]] in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]''. She can also be selected at the start of a match by pressing a shield button on the character selection screen. During battle, Samus can become Zero Suit Samus any time by quickly performing the [[Taunt]]s ↑↓↑.
=Mario (COMPLETED by {{User:Stumpers/sig}}=

When Samus finishes her Final Smash, the [[Zero Laser]], the force of the beam is so strong it causes the [[Power Suit]] to fall off, which was seen in the E3 Trailer. Once this happens, she is left only in her Zero Suit. Players can pick up and throw the pieces of her armor, which now act similarly to items. Zero Suit Samus is more swift and agile than her armored form, though, lighter and easier to KO. She can now also use a gun that transforms into an energy whip. Her whip also has a similar function as [[Link]]'s hookshot.
