New users are automatically welcomed immediately after creating their account through this system message, so it's no longer necessary to welcome them on their talk page. Because of this, and in order to cut down on the creation of unnecessary talk pages:
- The {{welcome}} template has been retired. Do not add it to any more pages.
- Creating user talk pages for the sole purpose of welcoming new users is prohibited.
That being said, if you have to contact a new user for some other reason, feel free to welcome them with a short custom message included in your correspondence (no transclusions).
