- Nintendo has announced the upcoming launch of a Nintendo Cinematic Universe (pictured) in cooperation with Sony Pictures. Part of the first wave is a live-action Mario film.
- The My Nintendo rewards program launched in Australia, Europe, and the Americas on March 31, 2016 with downloadable games as rewards including Super Mario 64, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. On the same day, Mario Super Sluggers was released on the Wii U eShop as a digital download in North America.
- Mario Party 2 was released on the Wii U Virtual Console in Japan on March 30, 2016.
- On March 24, 2016 in North America, Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario Kart were released on the New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, while Yoshi's Story was released on the Wii U Virtual Console. On the same day, Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest were released on the New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in Europe and Australia.
