Top and bottom halves of a Yoshi's egg appear on the playing field throughout [[Yoshi (game)|''Yoshi'']]. Stacking the two halves together will hatch a Yoshi, earning 50 points for the player, as well as an additional 50 points for each enemy plowed through as the upper half travels down to meet the bottom half. If a top half of the egg lands without its matching bottom half below, it disappears. A bottom half of an egg can land above another, making the lower egg half unusable. The type of Yoshi that hatches from the egg half depends on how many enemies were caught between the two pieces:

Block that appears in a level's boss area after all the level's Red Coins are collected, but only if the player does not already have an item. When used, a Special Egg combines the effects of multiple items found in the game.
