[[Mario Squared Galaxy]], [[Stone Cyclone Galaxy]], [[Boss Blitz Galaxy]] and [[Grandmaster Galaxy]] (in the case of The Perfect Run, because of the music) are references to ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'', [[Rolling Coaster Galaxy]] is a reference to the [[Rainbow Road]] courses from the [[Mario Kart (series)|''Mario Kart'' series]] and ''[[Super Mario 64]]'' (because of the music), and [[Twisty Trials Galaxy]] is a reference to "[[The Secret of Ricco Tower]]" from [[Ricco Harbor]] in ''[[Super Mario Sunshine]]''.

|This galaxy takes place on an 8-bit [[Mario]], which also appeared as a planet in the [[Toy Time Galaxy]] from the [[Super Mario Galaxy|first game]]. However, the spinning platforms have been replaced with Flipswitch Panels. An 8-bit [[Luigi]] appears on the opposite side and serves as a [[Purple Coin]] level.

|This galaxy is heavily based on the Episode 4 mission [[The Secret of Ricco Tower]] from [[Ricco Harbor]] in ''[[Super Mario Sunshine]]''. The only major changes are that there is now a single [[Cloud Flower]] in the first mission, [[Yoshi]] in the second, and some of the spinning logs are larger.

|This galaxy consists of only one planet, which is essentially a replica of the [[Beach Bowl Galaxy#The Cyclone Stone|Cyclone Stone]] from the [[Beach Bowl Galaxy]] in ''Super Mario Galaxy''. Some differences include the addition of [[Octoomba]]s, the removal of the last [[Thwomp]], and the addition of multiple [[blue switch (Super Mario Galaxy)|blue switch]]es at different intervals around the planet.

|This galaxy pits the player against five bosses from the first game (for a total of ten boss fights including the Prankster Comet mission, the most out of any world). The player faces off against [[Dino Piranha]], [[King Kaliente]], [[Major Burrows]], [[Bouldergeist]] and [[Dino Piranha|Fiery Dino Piranha]], in that specific order. It contains six planets surrounding a {{wp|white dwarf|white dwarf star}}.

|This the final galaxy unlocked before the player obtains 240 Power Stars. The galaxy uses the same concept as the [[Flip-Swap Galaxy]] from [[World 1 (Super Mario Galaxy 2)|World 1]], except that instead of controlling [[Red-Blue Panel]]s, the player controls [[red and blue blocks]]. In this regard, it combines the mechanics of the Flip-Swap Galaxy with [[Wall Jump]]ing.

|This galaxy is analogous to the [[Grand Finale Galaxy]] from ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'' because the player must collect all 240 [[Power Star]]s and [[Green Star]]s to unlock it. This is the only Galaxy where Green Stars do not appear because the player has to collect all of the Green Stars in the game in order to unlock this galaxy.
