Woody is a kind sentient tree that always smiles and appears in the Mario Party series. He first appears in Mario Party 2, where he resides in Mini-Game Park. Woody sells minigames that have been played in party mode. The player can use the coins gathered from other modes to purchase these games. Woody sells the minigames as different-colored apples: yellow for 4-Player, red for 1-vs-3, and pink for 2-vs-2. Purchasing every minigame from these three categories unlocks the Mini-Game Coaster. When the player beats the story mode, Item minigames become available as blue apples, and upon the player completing the Mini-Game Coaster, Battle minigames become available for sale as green apples. When a minigame is purchased, it shows up in Mini-Game Park on one of five trees that resemble smaller, thinner Woodies. When the player warps into the park, they can meet the trees that hold games that can be bought. There is one tree for each minigame type, each matching the color of the apple signifying minigame categories. Once all the minigames have been purchased, Woody bears a pear on his left, which, when selected, takes the player to a whole new minigame, Driver's Ed.

Minigames that appeared in the first Mario Party or are heavily based on such minigames are cheaper, while minigames that save records and minigames with multiple variations are more expensive.
In Mario Party 3 Woody has his own board called Woody Woods. Here it introduces Evil Woody.

In Mario Party 3, Woody has his own board called Woody Woods, where he is given an evil counterpart called the Evil Woody. If the player lands on one of three Happening Spaces in front of him, Woody has the player run to either the left or the right to catch a falling fruit. One fruit gives the player an extra Dice Block, while the other gives them five extra coins. The player can decide not to choose either fruit; by doing so, Woody always gives an extra Dice Block to the player. He also appears in the background of the minigame Picking Panic.
In Mario Party 6, in Towering Treetop, Woody can be seen at the top of the giant tree. In daytime he is good, however in nightime soemhow he turns evil.

Woody returns in Mario Party 6s Towering Treetop, where he can be seen at the top of the giant tree. Here, he is given a nose resembling the stub of a cut-off branch. If the Happening Space next to him is landed on, he gives coins to everyone, but only during the day, as he is replaced by the Evil Woody at night. There is a larger tree that supports the entire treetop structure that resembles Woody, whose nose must be tickled in one of the Happening Space events.
Woody reappears in Woody Woods returning from Mario Party 3 along with the Evil Woody in Mario Party Superstars. His design has been reverted to his design from Mario Party 2 and Mario Party 3. Unlike in Mario Party 3, Woody does not give the player any pity Dice Block if they decide not to choose either of his fruits.
