'''Whittles''' are a species of tree spirits appearing in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy 2]]''. They are small, humanoid figures with geometric heads and bodies made entirely out of wood, with the exception of a single leaf on their heads. They appear in numerous galaxies as helpful characters with often simple yet incorrect grammar. There are three different types of Whittles: one with a rectangular head with their right side curved with a green leaf, one with a head in the shape of a cone with an orange leaf, and one with an oval-shaped head and a yellow leaf. Their name is taken from the word "whittle", which means to carve something out of wood. It may also be taken as a corruption of "little" due to their small stature.

Whittles appear in several [[Galaxy|galaxies]], including the [[Tall Trunk Galaxy]], where they appear in all of the missions. In the first mission, they teach Mario how to use the [[Blimp Fruit]] on [[Yoshi]] and later on they tell Mario to slide down the gigantic slide to prove his bravery. They are shown to be a very proud and brave race; due to this, they like to prove their bravery by sliding down the big slide in their galaxy and surviving its trials. When someone proves their worth, the Whittles reward them with a [[Power Star]], a symbol of courage. They also consider the giant tree at the center of the Tall Trunk Galaxy sacred.

Whittles also appear in [[Fluffy Bluff Galaxy]] and [[Cloudy Court Galaxy]], where they teach Mario how to use the [[Cloud Flower]]; [[Hightail Falls Galaxy]], where they teach him how to use the [[Dash Pepper]]; and in [[The Adventure of the Purple Coins]] in [[Clockwork Ruins Galaxy]], where they tell him how many [[Purple Coin]]s he should have at certain points.

Whittles are another species which will appear on [[Starship Mario]] after Mario obtains the second star in the Tall Trunk Galaxy.

In the game's [[List of Super Mario Galaxy 2 pre-release and unused content|E3 2009 trailer]], Whittles are shown to inhabit the [[Puzzle Plank Galaxy]], but they are not present there in the final game.
