When their Super Mario Wiki page was created in 2010, they were given the conjectural name "Whimp," based on their relationship to Whomps. This name would later be used by the English ''[[Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia]]'' released in 2018, which used several names from fan sources like the Super Mario Wiki. The Super Mario Wiki subsequently moved the page to the subject's Japanese name. Later, the Mario Portal website updated to list ''Super Mario Galaxy 2'' enemies in 2022, where the name "Whimp" was also used. Mario Portal has significantly higher veracity for enemy names, thus "Whimp" can be considered an official name.
