The '''Vault Guard''' (or '''vault guard''') is a [[Toad (species)|Mushroom person]] in charge of guarding the treasury of the [[Mushroom Castle (Super Mario RPG)|Mushroom Castle]]. In ''[[Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars]]'', the [[chancellor]] gives [[Mario]] access to the vault to help him in his quest to find [[Princess Peach]]. The Vault Guard accompanies Mario to the vault and explains how [[coin]]s, [[Flower (Super Mario RPG)|Flower]]s, and [[Mushroom#Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars|Mushroom]]s work.

The Vault Guard is shown to be cowardly. During [[Claymorton]]'s invasion of the [[Mushroom Kingdom (Super Mario RPG)|Mushroom Kingdom]], the Vault Guard runs away and hides in the guest room instead of protecting the treasures of the vault.
