Categories[edit]
Hello, please read over our categories policy page. Specifically, avoid adding redundant categories (broader categories that other, more specific categories already on the page are already categorised under, like Category:Mammals when Category:Rabbits is already there), and make sure you add new categories in the correct order: type categories first, sorted by importance (e.g. Category:Koopas, Category:Fish); then game categories, sorted alphabetically (e.g. Category:New Super Mario Bros. enemies, Category:Super Mario Bros. enemies). Mario JC 21:52, September 3, 2021 (EDT)
Also, please avoid adding categories that are only remotely related to the subject (for example, minigames and moves are not locations or objects and don't get categories like "Race courses" and "Stars"). Mario JC 22:52, September 3, 2021 (EDT)
Please stop improperly ordering categories and adding redundant and unnecessary categories on the Super Mario Wiki. This isn't a warning, and it's possible that you made a mistake by accident or without realizing it; this is simply a reminder for your information. If the action continues, then a warning will be issued. Thanks for reading and keep contributing. If you feel this reminder was undeserved, you may appeal it. |

Warning[edit]
This is a warning to stop your inappropriate behavior (improperly ordering categories and adding redundant categories) on the Super Mario Wiki. Please adhere to the rules or you will be blocked from editing this site. If you feel this warning was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
Mario JC 20:57, September 9, 2021 (EDT)
Thank you for the warning. I have been thoroughly discouraged and will no longer make any attempt to meaningfully contribute to the Mario Wiki in any way, shape, or form. Thunder Sniper (talk)
- This is not to stop you from editing entirely. You were reminded twice already for this yet you didn't follow it, so a warning was necessary. You just need to follow MarioWiki:Categories and order the categories properly and not add unnecessary ones as I've explained. Mario JC 21:18, September 9, 2021 (EDT)
This is your last warning. The next time you break the rules in any way, you will be blocked from editing the Super Mario Wiki. If you feel this last warning was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
Not to further discourage you, but you're still putting these categories under the game categories. Nightwicked Bowser 12:54, September 10, 2021 (EDT)
I feel as if the more recent warnings I'm receiving are vague and nonconstructive. I will admit my faults, some of my earlier edits were more unstructured and downright incorrect, and I am working my hardest to restructure what actually qualifies as what. I am trying to regress to almost robotic decisions (Jungle=Jungles, Beach=Beaches, etc.), and I am still having trouble finding out just exactly what is and isn't what. But I sometimes find it difficult to find just what I did wrong when I get no specific incidents on what was incorrect (besides the first warning, of course). Could you inform me exactly what I did wrong and what was wrong about it, so that I can improve on my future categorization? Even just a couple of examples that reflect the problem with my editing would be appreciated. User:Thunder Sniper
I will also stop editing until further clarification, for your sake and mine. User:Thunder Sniper
- All you need to do is put the categories you add above any categories that have game titles in them, and have those sorted alphabetically. You should take a look at the corrections Mario jc made to your edits to see what I mean. Nightwicked Bowser 13:55, September 10, 2021 (EDT)
- So, what you're saying is, for example, if a page says "list of (X) levels" or something along those lines, I should place any new categorization above those categories? Sorry if I'm taking up a lot of time, but I'm on my final warning here in which any form of editing is like walking in a minefield. User:Thunder Sniper
- Basically any general categories are placed above game-specific categories. So if you were trying to categorize, say, a grassland level in New Super Mario Bros. U, you would want to put Category:Grasslands above Category:New Super Mario Bros. U levels. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 14:01, September 10, 2021 (EDT)
- I understand now. Thank you both for the clarification.
- By the way, are the warnings permanent, or is there some way they can be removed? I'm obviously not going to just delete them, but I would like a way to redeem myself, in some sense. User:Thunder Sniper
- I'm afraid warnings are permanent, but what you're doing now is just fine. Nightwicked Bowser 14:34, September 10, 2021 (EDT)
- Warnings are permanent, but as long as you take the necessary steps to learn from them and correct the problem, they shouldn't affect your standing in the community. Even some current staff members received warnings at some point before being promoted, if that tells you anything. And even with the Last Warning, you wouldn't be permanently blocked if you broke the rules again. Permanent blocks are only for users who commit the worst offenses or continue making the same mistakes over and over without showing any attempt to improve. -- Too Bad! Don't categorise challenges, minigames etc. with categories that are meant to be for actual locations (like Chomp Alley with Category:Deserts - the category would go in Sherbet Desert and its levels). Mario JC 00:16, September 12, 2021 (EDT)
- Got it. Thunder Sniper (talk)
- You did this again with Three-Legged Lava Race.
- Sorry. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish between what's a level and what's a mission. As for the species category, I didn't know that before, and I won't do it again. User:Thunder Sniper/sig
