::On that note, if you apply PNG Monstrous or do anything else that can be seen as an edit of the original image, it's a good idea to make a note of that on the image's summary ([[:File:Horse's Bit MTMSNES.png|example]]). Again, it's not required, but the information can come in handy for future users. :Actually, I ''also'' used Desmume. I do believe however that the graphics settings of my version of Desmume when I took the shot is correct to the actual hardware, since I also use the latest version (even though versions that existed in 2011 may also have displayed the version that is correct to the hardware, seeing as a certain YouTube user from 2011 has used Desmume). Also, I have the DS cartridge of the actual game on hardware, so I know what it looks like on the real hardware. == JPEG When You Had a PNG ==

[[User:Wildgoosespeeder/PNG Monstrous|PNG Monstrous]] was a wasted step because JPEG uses a very different method of compression that is lossy. Also, MarioWiki wants PNG wherever possible. ::Yeah, MediaWiki restricts file page names by MIME type. Try to upload a PNG on anything but a PNG file page and it will give an error. The best course of action here is to either upload as a new image ([[Special:Upload]]) or generate red links to where the file you are trying to replace is linked to ([[User talk:Porplemontage#Gallery No Red Link]]). I prefer the red link method. Just remember to tag the other image with {{tem|delete}}. I tend to replace JPEGs and static frame GIFs with PNGs a lot, but preferred not to do a direct conversion (JPEG to PNG or GIF to PNG). --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 21:48, 20 December 2016 (EST)

Hi.

I noticed with your recent edits that you're well-versed in translating Japanese, at least regarding text.

With that in mind, I have a couple of questions for you:

1. Are you good at translating Japanese audio?

2. Do you have a Wikia account?

There's a bit of a method to my madness so to speak regarding why I am asking you this: I actually need your help regarding translations on at least one of the Wikis. I definitely know, for example, that I'm going to need help translating some Japanese text for some episodes of Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation on Dead or Alive Wiki (I mostly have to rely on Bing Translator to get translations, and... well, you know how internet translators are like). I've got rough translations up, but again, it's not quite up to standard. Aside from that, I also need some help with the radio drama "Peace and Harmony Blues" regarding translations. In particular, [http://www.absolute-video-games.com/album/56/metal-gear-solid-peace-walker-blues-of-peace-and-harmony I need help translating the "Snake & Kaz (Entry Gate)" portion and possibly also "Kaz Radio. Outer Ops "Boss Radio"" portion as well], the latter mostly in case there's any behind the scenes stuff in there. It depends on whether my Japanese is good enough to catch what audio's relevant for the translation (audio based vocal translation is called interpretation) - and yes, I have done pure audio based translations related to Pokémon for narrated dialogue in official trailers and such, it's not as easy as reading it from an image or any text on the page though. Even Dogasu has admitted to not being able to catch ''everything'' that's being said and one of the PM translators has at one point waited until a text transcription of the lyrics of a song was out because the thing I try to avoid is translation mistakes based on misheard dialogue (as for music, lyrics including songs in even English, I can mishear if I haven't seen them on a written lyrics sheet and English is my first language) - I am for instance able to understand the dialogue of the Porygon episode preview. PM does mostly rely on translating from the closed captions and they have multiple translators that can help catch things that Adamant alone cannot. With Pokémon though it's easier for me to catch and make out what's being said because I actually follow the series and the episodes of newer series are much, much easier as they have a less complex writing style than the Kanto series which also has a lot of cultural stuff though at least Netflix has closed captions for those older eps unlike the broadcasts PM uses (one of the reasons PM considers it the hardest series to work on). I don't follow those franchises so I might not catch all the terminology or understand the bigger topic of what's being said (if someone who didn't watch or play Pokémon tried to do such translation they probably wouldn't know for instance that a 技 ''waza'' is a "move", a set of named attacks Pokémon use). tldr though; When I get back home from Miami where I am now, I'll try to see what I can do.

I'd ask The Arc Hound, the guy who usually provides Japanese/English translations for Metal Gear Wiki, to provide translations for them, but... well, he's currently unavailable (and unfortunately, well, he has a bit of trouble with the latter due to it being a radio drama). I also provided the Japanese text for the Dead or Alive stuff via Google Translate (only used that because it's the only translator app that I can use on my phone, which I could then email to my computer. Personally, I'd prefer using Bing Translator if such an option existed), though there are some hiccups there since sometimes they use the wrong kanji. Also, for a few tips, Momiji's name is given in Kanji, and there's also characters called Nyotengu and Honoka, and also Ayane, so you might want to resort to those names if at all possible rather than literal translations (like Autumn Leaves, Woman Tengu, and "faith" for "Momiji", "Nyotengu", and "Honoka", respectively), that and at times shortening the name for some reason (ie, "Ayane" being translated as "Aya"). And funny you should mention Dogasu, because he also was one of my planned alternatives to Arc Hound for that radio drama. And don't worry, neither radio drama entry are music-related at all. I'll give you a tip for you on the drama tracks, though: If you encounter any Japanese words for Peace that are pronounced "Kaz" or "Kazuhira", especially within the context of it being referred to as a human being, just give it as "Kazuhira" or even "Kaz", since that's actually the name of one of the characters. Again, only if you have an Xbox 360, and no hurry regarding that task. I'm perfectly willing to wait until the other two are done, however long that takes. That was actually going to be one of my tasks for Arc Hound, but unfortunately his Xbox 360 got broken and he hasn't found a replacement version yet, so that's off limits for the time being.
