Uploads[edit]
Hello, when uploading files, please keep in mind that you also need to add an image category and navigation template. Instead of uploading through the wikitext editor, I suggest using Special:Upload in the future (the "Upload file" link under "tools" on the navigation pane). If you do, after filling out the aboutfile in the summary, remove uncategorized and replace it with a category from one of the subcategories in Category:Images (using File:Dr Mario DM64 icon.png as an example, you go to "Images by game" and find "Dr. Mario 64 Images", so you type
), then select a license depending on what type of file it is (screenshot, sprite etc.) from the "Licensing" drop-down menu.
If you wish to continue using the wikitext editor uploader, you'd have to copy/paste the following into the description and change the category name and license (list can be found here) where necessary:
==Summary== Description ==Licensing== game-sprite

Also, if you're uploading a better version of an existing file that's the same format (e.g. png and png), instead of uploading it separately, click on the "Upload a new version of this file" link under "File history" on the existing file page. Mario JC 19:46, February 27, 2021 (EST)
- Looks like you're still having some trouble. Here's some more information:
Hello, PMN700. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly use the aboutfile template. What you were doing looks like this, and it is an inconvenience for other users to fix up the template. It is simple to learn how to format it correctly. The pre-loaded syntax is shown below. Just replace the necessary parts with that corresponding information, and remove the entire line for the parameter(s) you don't use. Please consider the above information before uploading more files. If you continue using aboutfile incorrectly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing. |
Hello, PMN700. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:
When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use: or Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing. |
- We don't use navigation templates in the images, so the WMOD call should be just . 16:04, March 17, 2021 (EDT)
Also, please avoid making edits and instantly reverting them because they came out wrong. This floods the history page. Next time, use the "Show preview" next to the "Save changes" button; this lets you see what your edit looks like and fix any mistakes you made before actually saving it. Help:Image and Help:Gallery has guides on how you can add images to articles. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask around. Mario JC 23:26, March 17, 2021 (EDT)
Series categories[edit]
For future reference, the more specific "Category:(game) bosses" categories that are already on the articles like Category:Donkey Kong 64 bosses already fall under the overall Category:Donkey Kong bosses series category, so adding this category is unnecessary.
"Category:(series) bosses" categories should only be included if there is no more specific one available, as is the case with Kroctopus. Mario JC 08:46, December 5, 2023 (EST)
