this is intended to be a rewrite of List of Super Mario Strikers pre-release and unused content, which is currently lacking infos from the E3 build found on a demo disc.
Early ideas
There are various concept arts depicting Mario in different outfits. In the concept pictures, Mario has on a soccer outfit and some other outfits, like one with a helmet and a GameCube controller buckle belt, and a hooded sweater. Peach is wearing another uniform that is similar to the final version.

Early build (E3 2005)
An early build of the game was showcased at the E3 2005 event, and was later included in the Interactive Multi Game Demo Disc 31. The game itself identifies as being dated July 27, 2005 and shares the same ID as NHL Hitz Pro (GHZE01). Oddly, a number of screenshots shown on the main menu of Interactive Multi Game Demo Disc 31 comes from at least a near-final version of the game.
Logo and title screen
The game's logo seen on the title screen features an artwork of Mario in an outfit used in this version, while the final version uses an updated version that reflect his different appearance. The wordmark also has different styling from the final version. The opening cinematic is also absent.
Gameplay
Being intended as a demo game, this version disables all of the main menu options except Grudge Match, which defaults to Mario versus Donkey Kong (with Hammer Bros and Toads as sidekicks respectively) at The Underground for 2 minutes. Such restrictions are defined by the following values in the user.ini
file:
e3_build =true fev2 =true newloadscreen =true
When each of the values are set to false, these features will be enabled:
e3_build
enablesfev2
enablesnewloadscreen
enables
Alternatively, all of the restrictions can also be removed by using Action Replay code 00349A43 00000000
.
Characters
If the character selection screen is enabled, the player will have access to all of the eight captains and four sidekicks. However, only Mario, Luigi, Peach, Donkey Kong, Wario, Toad, Hammer Bro, and Koopa Troopa will work correctly, while Daisy, Waluigi, and Birdo would not appear in cutscenes but still otherwise plays normally, and Yoshi is unplayable; attempting to do so will crash the game.
In addition, only Toad has all of the outfit colors for each captain playable in this build, while Hammer Bro only has those for Mario, Donkey Kong, and Wario (other captains would default to Mario's instead), Koopa Troopa only has one for Yoshi, and Birdo appears to be using a unique outfit.
