The course begins in a different location from Los Angeles Laps, with the starting line instead located on a road far away from the {{wp|Santa Monica Pier}}. This is due to this route's layout not involving the pier and the beach in any way, unlike the first route. Following a left turn, racers drive towards the {{wp|Inglewood Oil Field}}. Taking a slight left turn brings them into the oil field, where there are multiple forks in the road. Each route features pumpjacks as obstacles. Racers take a U-turn to the left to continue through the oil field, avoiding two more pumpjacks and a large water tower. There is also a [[Glide Ramp|glide ramp]] here to the right of the track, blocked by some off-road. A sharp right takes the racers back into the main city streets, where they cross a bridge on a long straightaway before taking one last left turn back to the starting line.
 
Despite being labeled as the second route, Los Angeles Laps 2 released seven months after Los Angeles Laps 3 did. This marks the second time a city course's layouts were released out of numerical order, the first being [[Tour Berlin Byways|Berlin Byways]], with Berlin Byways 2 being released more than a year before Berlin Byways.


The course also appears as '''Los Angeles Laps 2R''' (reversed), '''Los Angeles Laps 2T''' (with ramps), and '''Los Angeles Laps 2R/T''' (reversed with ramps). In the T and R/T variants, there is a stationary [[dash panel ramp truck]] on the road. In the T variant, there is also three [[Big Piranha Plant]]s on the course: Two in the Inglewood Oil Field, and one on the final turn. In the oil field, the glide ramp and a few of the pumpjacks are gone. In the R/T variant, racers are guided along one specific route through the oil field.

===2nd Anniversary Tour===
In the standard layout, players start on a street that runs perpendicular to the {{wp|Santa Monica Pier}}. Just after the starting line, the road curves to the left in front of {{wp|Tongva Park}}, then makes a slight right as it goes under a bridge (which is part of a road in [[Los Angeles Laps 2]]), and then curves left again to go through the {{wp|Los Angeles Convention Center}}. The road curves to the right as it goes under the canopy of the convention center, and then curves left shortly before a [[Glide Ramp|glide ramp]] which sends the player over {{wp|Dodger Stadium}}. After landing on the other side of the stadium, the player immediately makes two left turns before continuing down a curvy road towards {{wp|Rodeo Drive|Two Rodeo Drive}}. After going through Rodeo Drive, the player makes a sharp left turn to return to the finish line. At the start of the curvy road towards {{wp|Rodeo Drive|Two Rodeo Drive}}, there's a small corner that can only be traversed through with the use of a [[Dash Mushroom]].
In the [[2nd Anniversary Tour]], Los Angeles Laps appeared as the first course in the [[Daisy Cup]] and the location of the bonus challenge in the [[Yoshi Cup]]. Its T variant appeared as the third course in the Hammer Bro Cup, its R/T variant appeared as the second course in the [[Luigi Cup]], and its R variant appeared as the first course in the [[Rosalina Cup]].
 
The course also appears as '''Los Angeles Laps 3R''' (reversed), '''Los Angeles Laps 3T''' (with ramps), and '''Los Angeles Laps 3R/T''' (reversed with ramps). In the T variant, the glide ramp is gone; racers use [[Kanaami Road]] to cross Dodger Stadium. In the R/T variant, there is a second glide ramp as racers exit the stadium, which allows them to glide up to and drive on the convention center.

Los Angeles Laps returns in ''[[Mario Kart 8 Deluxe]]'' as part of Wave 5 of the ''[[Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass|Booster Course Pass]]''. It appears as the first course of the [[Cherry Cup]]. The course has received significant visual upgrades, now being set in the day instead of sunset. The minimap has also been rotated 180 degrees. Finally, the background music has been heavily rearranged and given a jazzier sound, with most of the synths and all of the "la-la" vocals replaced with live saxophones and guitars.
The course begins at the original Los Angeles Laps' starting line, before continuing normally along the first variant until the intersection with 3, turning right and passing under another lap gate on the bridge. Los Angeles Laps 3's route is used for the second section, except at the end, instead of turning left again, racers continue straight before making a left turn into the Inglewood Oil Field, which begins Los Angeles Laps 2's route, passing under another gate to start the third and final section. After passing under pumpjacks and over a bridge, racers make their way back to the four-way central intersection, before turning right and returning to the finish line at the Santa Monica Pier. It is the third course in the ''Mario Kart'' series to open a cup and use sections, after [[Wuhu Loop]] in ''[[Mario Kart 7]]'' and {{classic link|Tour|Athens Dash}} in the [[Feather Cup]], as well as the second such course to solely use sections after Wuhu Loop. The {{wp|Venice Beach Skatepark}} now includes a [[Half-pipe (object)|half-pipe]]. The parked cars have been removed. Some of the coins in the baseball-shaped formation at Dodger Stadium now rotate off-axis. Rodeo Drive's elevation has been evened out, with a less gradual jump in height entering it. A ramp with [[Dash Panel|Dash Panels]] has been added around where Los Angeles Laps 3's starting line was in ''Tour'', with another smaller one added along the upper middle route in Inglewood Oil Field.
