These movable [[platform]]s can be activated by using the [[Wii U#Wii U GamePad|Wii U GamePad]], the touchscreen of the [[Nintendo Switch]] in handheld mode, the {{button|switch|r}} button while using dual Joy-Con or a Pro Controller, or the {{button|switch|SR}} button while using single Joy-Con, as all of these methods summon the touch cursor. Tapping a Touchstone with the touch cursor causes it to move to a set position until it is touched a second time or the timer expires, which makes it return to its original state.  

In ''Super Mario 3D World'' and ''Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury'', Touchstones also revert after a short time has passed. They are mainly purple and appear rarely, found only in [[Puffprod Peaks]], [[Captain Toad Plays Peek-a-Boo]], and [[Captain Toad's Fiery Finale]]. In ''Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker'', Touchstones can be found in various colors and shapes and are more common, making their debut in the third [[level]], [[Touchstone Trouble]].
