| The Princess's Secret Slide, referred to as Princess Toadstool's Secret Slide by a sign, is one of the secret levels in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS, as well as being one of the three slides in the games. The entrance to the course is in the Princess's room, located behind the ★ door marked with a "1" on the mezzanine of the Mushroom Castle. Inside the room are three stained glass windows with images of Princess Peach on them. Jumping into the one on the right leads to the slide. In Super Mario 64 DS, the room is expanded to include the locked doors with Mario, Luigi, Wario, and a Power Star behind them, and the number of stained glass windows is reduced from three to two, but the stained glass window on the right still leads to the slide. The level is also used as one of the four courses in the VS mode. | | |
| | The Princess's Secret Slide is one of three secret levels in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS, where Mario must simply ride a winding slide to the bottom, where two Power Stars can be found. It's also one of the four courses in the multiplayer version of Super Mario 64 DS. The first star is at the star, the second at the middle, and the last three at the end. The end is the best place for fighting. |

|
| This level and The Secret Aquarium are the only two hidden courses outside the Bowser courses to retain their original names in the DS remake.
| | The entrance to the slide is on the first floor, atop the central staircase, and behind the star door labeled "1", meaning it will require 1 Power Star to enter. In the room behind the door are three (two in Super Mario 64 DS) identical stained glass windows with images of Princess Peach on them. The one on the right is the entrance to the slide. In the DS version, the room is expanded to hold the character doors but the slide itself remains the same and is still accessed via a picture of Peach in the same room. If Mario falls off, he will not lose a life, but will be sent back to the castle lobby. Like other secret levels, the player can lose a life by taking damage until it reaches zero. In this case, the only way to take damage is to jump from the first part of the slide to the second part of the slide, resulting in damage due to falling from heights. This is the only secret course that contains Blue Coins. There is also a hidden platform with grey bricks. |

| |
| The player starts in a room with a Blue Coin Block to the right. Once the player enters the slide ahead, a timer begins. The slide first takes the player down a large tunnel, which leads to a steep downward slope. After a large 270-degree bend is a series of drops with a 1-UP Mushroom in this area followed by several bends, ultimately leading to the final room of the slide. If the player falls off the slide, they will be brought back to the lobby of the castle with no life lost. In the VS mode course, the first Power Star can be found at the start, the second is in the middle of the slide, and the last three are in the final room.
| |
|
| |
|
| This is the only secret course that contains Blue Coins, and the only course that has no Red Coins in the original game.
| | The room that housed the entrance to the slide was redesigned in the DS version to also serve as character select and Rec Room entrance. But an early version of the room, based on the N64 version, can be found in the game's files. There's a sign that says "Bowser dosen't know about the hidden star here" which the under 21 seconds one. |

| The music that plays in the course is a variation of the "Super Mario 64 Main Theme," as well as Cool, Cool Mountain's music, involving a Western style, with an instrumentation of a harmonica, a bass, drums, a banjo, and a whistle. This music can also be heard during the races with Koopa the Quick and in most other secret courses, in secret areas that involve a slide, and in other regular courses such as Tick Tock Clock and Rainbow Ride.
| |
| | |
| This music has since been arranged in multiple future titles in the Super Mario franchise, including the Super Smash Bros. series (Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl as the main track for the Rainbow Cruise stage, combined with the Underwater Theme from Super Mario Bros.); Super Mario Galaxy 2 in the Tall Trunk Galaxy mission Tall Trunk's Big Slide and in the Rolling Coaster Galaxy; Paper Mario: Sticker Star during the minecart sections in Bowser's Snow Fort; Super Mario 3D World while the player rides Plessie, which was reused in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker during part of the Coins Galore minigames; and Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games as one of the tracks that can be played in events, which is Toad's theme in the latter game. The original song is also featured in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Super Mario Maker 2.

| *After Mario gets the first Star from the Bob-omb Battlefield, the message that appears erroneously says that the entrance to this secret level is on the second floor, while in fact it is on the mezzanine. | | *The tune that plays in the course is a variation of the Bob-omb Battlefield theme (aka, the main theme of the game), as well as Cool, Cool Mountain's music. The music is also remixed in Super Smash Bros. Melee, as well as in Super Mario Galaxy 2 in the Tall Trunk Galaxy level "Tall Trunk's Big Slide", and in the Rolling Coaster Galaxy. Another remix can be heard in Paper Mario: Sticker Star in Bowser's Snow Fort, during the mine cart sections. Super Mario 3D World features another variation that plays while riding Plessie. The latest remix is heard in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker where it plays during part of the Coins Galore minigames. |

| | *This course is the only course in Super Mario 64 that has no Red Coins mission. |
| *The Super Mario 64 DS version of this level is later referenced in WarioWare: Move It!, where a microgame has the player control Mario (and Luigi in two-player mode) to reach the goal.
| | *There is a glitchy shortcut which allows players save about 7 seconds. |
| | *Most secret courses have this music. The main courses that have it are the mysterious slide in Tall, Tall Mountain, Tick Tock Clock, and Rainbow Ride. |
| | *All courses in VS. Mode have this music, including Sunshine Isles, which had music from Super Mario Sunshine. |
