Like with the previous mission, the player has to make use of Floaty Fluff to move between planets. The player can still collect several ? Coins to summon circles of Star Bits. This time, the player will reach a small planetoid that is part of the Question Mark Planets with an Undergrunt and defeating it will cause a Sling Star to appear, which will bring the player to the larger planet of the Question Mark Planets. Three more Undergrunts are found, one faster than the others. Defeating them all will cause a Launch Star to appear that will launch Mario through the Hedge Ring planet and to the Apple Planets. By Ground Pounding certain stumps on the apples, a worm will appear and act as a bridge between them, eventually leading to a Launch Star. The Launch Star will take the player to the Spiny Planet where they can find a Life Mushroom before another Launch Star takes them to the planet where Major Burrows is fought.

The fight with Major Burrows begins with him chasing after a Star Bunny. When Major Burrows pops out of the ground, the player needs to Ground Pound nearby to cause him to fully come out. He will then start walking around and the player needs to spin into Major Burrows behind to damage him. Major Burrows will then change his sights to Mario and begin chasing after him. After repeating the method used the first time, Major Burrows will get even angrier and starts chasing Mario at a faster pace. Ground Pounding when he comes up out of the ground will send Major Burrows back into the ground, where he will then pop back up and begin attacking Mario. Ground Pounding nearby when Major Burrows is in this state will cause him to run away, and spinning into him once more will defeat him, rewarding the player with the Power Star.
