The 'Shroom:Issue 202/Directorial Address
Director, huh? Nice meme.
In all seriousness, I am honored and humbled to be chosen as the new Shroom Director. To lead The 'Shroom is not something I (nor anybody else except for SMB, for that matter) thought would ever happen. I would like to thank outgoing director Hooded Pitohui for leaving me The 'Shroom in its best shape following a successful issue 200. If I can be half the Director he was, I'll consider it a success.
Now, as Director, I think it's my duty to use my platform to speak about the issues most pressing in this community. So here we go. Many members of this community, especially those representing the Western portion of the United States, have called for what they call "Free Coinage of Silver". Calling themselves Silverites, they say the government should switch to a bimetallic money system where the government would issue money in both silver and gold at a rate of sixteen ounces of silver for one ounce of gold. Now, there are differing reasons for why they wish to adopt what they call Free Silver. Some are unscrupulous silver mine owners engaging in a cynical effort to make silver more valuable, but others believe that a sixteen-to-one ratio would create a concept of positive inflation. The argument goes that, with more money in supply, debts, which are backed with gold, would become cheaper since more money would be in circulation. While a novel theory, I believe this is flawed thinking... Oh wait a second, uh, wrong speech... Wrong time, whoops.
As I said in my campaign, my "administration" won't be a great leap forward for The 'Shroom, but rather more of an an enthusiastic hop! I basically have three goals. The first is an obvious one, and it's increasing the amount of people writing for The 'Shroom, possibly using some sort of magic spell. The second is to work with the team (and especially Anton) to create the best and most fitting tribute to one of our longest and most successful writers for issue 211. Finally, I want to continue improving the recognition of our talented writers, the backbone of The 'Shroom. The last one is something I really want to tackle, and this may be the perfect year for it! With only two major events this year, we're going to have a more low-key year then last, which means the team and I will have plenty of time to figure out ways to make our writers feel recognized.
As far as staff changes go, I'm happy to report that we are, for the most part, bringing back the same staff that steered issue 200 so well. Despite my best efforts, I've been told that legally I can't fire Waluigi Time for no reason. Lousy, useless bureaucrats. Sadly though, our beloved Graphic Design Manager GBA is resigning for a much-needed break to pursue his true passion, which is writing angry letters to Capcom regarding the status of Ace Attorney 7. Because of this, at some point in either late January or early February, that position will open up, but it's not going to be the same as it currently is. It's going to get retooled into a more (hopefully) manageable position, but details on that are currently being hashed out and will be posted once GBA officially steps down from his position.
