The 'Shroom:Issue 192/Fun Stuff
Director's Notes
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome to the March edition of Fun Stuff! Boy, this year is already just flying by, huh? Already practically a quarter through 2023... And here I was, thinking that 2023 couldn't happen soon enough. School only ramps up with time, alongside my other obligations. I've got a spring break in my immediate future, though, so at least I've got some levity on the horizon. I hope all of your early springs are treating you well, and that you find the same occasions for relaxation over the coming days. All of you deserve some play during a life so focused on work.
Our Fun Stuff selections are as boisterous as ever this month, so I hope you enjoy all that we have to offer! Kick back, relax, make sure to pick up a Shamrock Shake (the best part of March), and read on! Take care, everyone.
Section of the Month
Congratulations to FunkyK38 (talk) for another first place snag, and further kudos to Waluigi Time (talk) and WildWario (talk) for giving some fierce competition!

Anagrams
Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)
Hey everybody, welcome to the March edition of anagrams! This month, I've put together a swarm of anagrams for you all to try to solve based on all sorts of bugs and creepy crawlies from across the Mario series. But while you busy bees are getting those done, if any themes or funny anagrams for something Mario-related pop into your head, please let me know on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums, I'd be sure to incorporate them in a future section. And with that, I'll quit bugging you and let you work your way through this web of anagrams.
How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!
1. HEY BE ONE
2. FIB PLUG
3. DID BY DUB
4. COCOON MAILMEN
5. AXON TART
6. ROB ANY MUG
7. ORNATE PORT
8. GUMBO BOA
9. SEE TREK
10. PETAL TREE

Word Search

So we all agree it's weird that Donkey Kong immediately got kicked out of his own series, right? I mean the series is called Donkey Kong Country but Donkey Kong is only playable in the first one and it's the worst one! The games get way better as soon as Donkey Kong is kidnapped. You know, come to think of it, the original series quality seems to be directly tied to how many Kongs are kidnapped. The original Donkey Kong Country has no Kongs kidnapped and is just only kind of okay, Donkey Kong Country 2 has one Kong kidnapped and it's pretty good!, and finally Donkey Kong Country 3 has two Kongs kidnapped and it's the best in the series! Anyways, this is a Word Search about the original Donkey Kong Country featuring an assortment of Kongs, Kremling Krew Members, and Animal Buddies. Words can be found vertically, horizontally, and backwards!

Hiding Koopa

Hello there, 'Shroom readers! It's finally spring! Will we actually get some decent weather? Your guess is as good as mine. I don't know about you, but when it comes to Nintendo, I think the Pikmin series goes with spring pretty well. Yeah, you encounter all four seasons in the games, but the gameplay is all about growing an army of little plant guys. That's why there's five Koopas hiding in this artwork from the upcoming Pikmin 4! Can you find all of them? Some of them are being pretty sneaky...
Thanks for playing! Did you find them all?

Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!
You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!
Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.
Challenge round (optional):
-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less
-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help
“We've got a blockbuster heist this time, gumshoe! Mario and co have reported that their tickets to the Super Mario Bros. Movie have been stolen! The premiere is in less than three weeks, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the final product for months. The movie features some big names voicing our main cast, and seems to be packed with references for older and newer fans alike. What would it say if our stars didn't attend the premiere? We've tracked down our culprit as a Toad who was seemingly working undercover in Peach's Castle for months to have a shot at the tickets. We need to recover these tickets fast, gumshoe, or this show will be lacking major star power!”

“You did it gumshoe! We hurried to the location you specified and managed to stop the transaction right in time- a flash of red turned in the other direction just as we approached! I sent agents after Carmen but she gave them the slip, unfortunately. Thankfully, we were able to recover all of the tickets, and apprehend our suspect. He's been taken into custody, and the Mario crew send you their thanks with a ticket to the show! You'll have to make sure all of your paperwork is done before you go charging off to a movie, though, gumshoe...”

Trivia

Anybody else think that the amount of LEGO Mario stuff came out of nowhere? I mean, it seems like almost everything is represented in LEGO Mario. You've got Huckit Crabs, Scaredy Rats, and even Toadies represented in the LEGO line. It's both wild and intriguing just how deep Nintendo and LEGO are going with the LEGO Super Mario Line. What's next? a Snailicorn being buildable...actually that would be awesome, Nintendo and LEGO do that! Anyways that's enough rambling about LEGOs for now, so did you know?
- That in Tetris Attack the only reason Lunge Fish doesn't eat Yoshi is because he gives him indigestion?
- That Buzzy Beetle and Lava Bubbles are the only enemies from Super Mario Bros. to not appear in any of the DIC Mario cartoons?
- That Piranha Plant was the first generic enemy to be playable in Super Smash Bros.?
- That despite being unlockable, Luigi appears in the original Super Smash Bros. How To Play tutorial?
- That Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U is the only Super Smash Bros. game where Luigi is playable by default?
- That Mario Tennis Advance is the only Mario Tennis game that doesn't feature Yoshi as a playable character?
- That Mario Tennis Advance is also the only game to feature Waluigi but not Wario?
