The 'Shroom:Issue 167/Fun Stuff
Staff Notes
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome to this February edition of Fun Stuff! Things are nice and lovely here, in honor of Valentine's Day. I've got an arts and crafts table in the back of the office, where I've been encouraging the Fun Stuff writers to make Valentine's! It's been a really fun time, although I'm curious on who some of these valentines are addressed to. Yesterday, I saw Ninja Squid writing a Valentine's letter to a "Ms. Mowz". Does somebody have a crush, perhaps?
I don't have too much time, and thankfully there aren't too many announcements this month. But hey, as always, Fun Stuff is happy to accept more writers! Interested in learning more about the process, and maybe geting some ideas for new sections? Check out the sign up page for more information! With that out of the way, settle in with your seasonal chocolates and enjoy our offerings for this month.
Section of the Month
Congratulations to Kirbyo (talk) for taking first place with his first month writing for The 'Shroom! Further congratulations go to FunkyK38 (talk) and Ninja Squid (talk) for second and third place respectively, and make sure to vote in this month's poll!

Anagrams
Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)
Hi all, welcome to the second Anagrams section of the year, and apparently the fortieth one of these I've written! It still doesn't feel like I've been doing this for long enough to hit that milestone. And in no way commemorating that milestone at all, this month's anagrams are based on Mario Strikers Charged, so hopefully you'll enjoying taking a shot at those. Of course, if you have any ideas for a future theme that I could use for the sections, please let me know on my talk page or by sending me a PM on the forums, it's be great to hear from you. And with all of that out of the way, I'll let you enjoy those anagrams!
How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!
1. I UNLOCK OMEGAS
2. HURDLES AND TIN
3. SHELTERING ANGEL
4. TO MY LEMON
5. SILK SLOTH
6. IN PAPERY HEAT
7. PI TRUCKERS
8. PER USABILITY
9. PLAIN PERCENTILE
10. EPIC FUR

Hiding Koopa
Written by: Ninja Squid (talk)
MEOW!
Hey there, folks! Welcome to another edition of Hiding Koopa.
I went full "Cat Mode" this month. I bought Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, and I enjoy it a lot! Toad is even faster than before and if he keeps going like that, Sonic might have some serious competition from now on. Of course, speaking of 3D World also means that this month, my five Koopas hid in an artwork of that game. As usual, there are five of them, so make sure to find them all! Have fun! MEOW!
Answer:
Did you find them all? Regardless, thank you very much for your support, and I hope you will come back next month!
Picross
Welcome back to Picross, 'Shroom readers. February has come and it will soon be gone, but what has also come this month is Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, and that won't be leaving anytime soon unlike some other games. This month's picrosses are about that game, and they're all cat-themed. Good luck!
For new readers:
For new readers to this section, here's a short explanation about it: Every issue, you'll find two to four picross puzzles based on a certain theme, based on a Mario game, series, character, or item. If you have any ideas for themes, feel free to suggest them here. If you're new to picross, or need a refresher on the rules, here is a step-by-step walkthrough. You can also find many tutorials online. To play, download the picture and print it, or open it in a drawing program of your choice. Happy solving! |

Trivia
Trivia Time!
Hello, it’s me Kirbyo, and it’s time for another edition of Trivia Time! I ask the questions, and you answer with the help of the wiki and your Mario knowledge! Each Trivia Time has a different theme, and since it's February, I wanted to do something “romancey” because of Valentine's Day. The best I could come up with was Super Princess Peach, a Mario spinoff I never played! So, without further ado, let’s-a go! (Bonus: get all five right without the help of the wiki.)
Question 1: In Super Princess Peach, there is an angry version of the Big Boo called Mad Big Boo. What is the Mad Big Boo’s Japanese name?
Hint: |
---|
Another name for big is atomic. |
Answer: |
---|
Atomic Boo of Rage. |
Question 2: In Super Princess Peach, there is an enemy that only appears in levels 2-5, 5-5, and 6-4. What video game character is that enemy based off of?
Hint: |
---|
The enemy’s name is Starfish. |
Answer: |
---|
Starfy. |
Question 3: In Super Princess Peach, there is an enemy called the Big Chain Chomp. In what game did it originate?
Hint: |
---|
It wasn’t Super Mario 64. The actual game was actually quite… egg-citing! |
Answer: |
---|
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island |
Question 4: In Super Princess Peach, Princess Peach has a band. What is it called?
Hint: |
---|
The band is made up of Princess Peach, Toadsworth, and three random Toads, and they're a big success! |
Answer: |
---|
The Peach Hit Five. |
Question 5: In Super Princess Peach, there are sad and mad Goombas. Glad Goombas were planned for the game but were cut before the game's release, although they can still be seen where in the game?
Hint: |
---|
There are eight of them, and the Glad Goomba’s in one of them. |
Answer: |
---|
In a puzzle (specifically the 8th one) |
Well, that’s it for this edition of Trivia Time! Thank you so much for playing, and I’ll see you… NEXT TIME! (Now if you'll excuse me, I have to continue watching Pokémon: Master Quest. Good day!)
Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?
HOW TO PLAY
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case! You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case! Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down. Challenge round (optional): -Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less -Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help |

HIDEOUT ANSWER: Pipeline Central from Mario Strikers Charged “Excellent work, gumshoe, you've saved the department and the rest of the world from a massive cat-astrophe! We arrived to the soccer field to find that the cat cronies were playing with the soccer balls while waiting for Carmen to pick up the bell. We've sent them to the vet's office to see if the Cat Bell power-up can be reversed. Seems like we were just in time, too, the field agents reported seeing one of Carmen's blimps in the air nearby. Mario sent you a gift as a thank you- your very own cat bell power up! Don't let me catch you in a cat nap on the job!” |
