The 'Shroom:Issue 147/Staff Notes
Hello, 'Shroom readers! You might be wondering what I'm doing here when I wasn't elected to the ticket this time around. Well, Raregold (talk) chose to resign between the last issue and this one, and MsRetroGeek (talk) chose not to take on the position as director, but instead stepped down as well. An internal staff discussion produced the current directing team, and I'm going to be in charge of the 'Shroom until January!
Or in other words, this looks like a job for me, so everybody just follow me, because we need a little controversy, so you get another term of Director Blocky!
...Ahem. Probably the most important thing to mention is that we're only three months out from Issue 150! The 'Shroom staff is planning multiple ideas to help make that an impressive issue, but if you want to contribute in any way, feel free to contact me or Smasher to talk it out if it's a general idea. If it's an idea that centers around a specific team, talk to one of our friendly and helpful team directors. We'll get into more detail in July, so gear up as we prepare to talk about what we might have! I'll see you in July, 'Shroom readers!
—Superchao, Director
Hello everyone! Remember me? No? Oh well! Blocky explained it up above; I've been selected as the new sub-director. I've been wanting to write for the 'Shroom again for a long while now, so...here we are! Now, Blocky was the one that first told me I could do this, so just remember: if anything goes wrong, it's entirely his fault.
There are a couple of other things we need to point out this month. It's awards season here in MarioWiki, and the Community Awards Dossier is in this very issue! If you'd like to vote, be sure to check it out so that you'll be able to be informed on the nominees. In addition, the annual Poll Chairperson Election is ready as well, so feel free to give it a look if you're interested in taking charge of the Poll Committee for the next year. That's all I have to say this time, so please enjoy the issue, and I'll see you guys next month!

Staff Section of the Month for May 2019
STAFF-VOTED SECTION OF THE MONTH | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Place | Section | Writer | Reasoning | |
1st | Rising Sun Reviews | Mariofan169 (talk) | One of the longstanding jokes about Jojo is that it's almost impossible to explain to a newcomer without just showing them the series. Mariofan does a good job of disproving it; this section is well-written to explain the basics of Jojo to someone ignorant of the franchise, with a witty style that helps keep them engaged as they go through it. | |
2nd | Anton's Half-Baked Reviews | Hypnotoad (talk) | The section on Maltesers really caught our eyes this month. It's a grand example of Half-Baked Reviews at its finest, being not just a review, but offering a great deal of information about topics which impact the product (such as Fair Trade efforts, sugar subsidies in the United States, palm oil deforestation, among others). His reviews were also very fair and his writing style was a lot of fun to read. | |
2nd | It's aMAZEing | Lakituthequick (talk) | We want to recognize sections that are doing exactly what they set out to do and doing it well. LTQ offers fun mazes that are quick and easy to pull up in an image editor or print out to play. In addition, he adds a little flourish with his self-made charming images and his mazes feel simple and satisfying. For a section which sets out to offer a maze, it does exactly what it needs to while offering just a few embellishments to make it look clean and feel fun. The quality of the mazes never goes down. | |
3rd | Anniversary Announcements | Lakituthequick (talk) | The formatting on this section is always of the highest quality, and it's amazing how LTQ is able to keep up with current community events, even when new stuff is posted just before the issue was released. This section also serves an important role in highlighting community events which allows for healthy promotion for tournaments and whatnot. | |
4th | Mach Speed Mayhem | Superchao (talk) | We've always liked that Perch lets the community vote on who he covers and still manages to provide a complete, interesting breakdown of the character that wins. The section also has a nice visual flow to it, and continues to provide a well-rounded and complete introduction and analysis of the character. | |
5th | Touhou (Remix) Project | Superchao (talk) | Here's a section someone could add new elements to or change the approach, but there's no need for any of that. This is a section meant to curate a collection of music with a clear theme and introduce it to readers, and it does just that fine. We feel that this section does everything it needs to do and offers an enjoyable experience of reading briefly about the collected music before listening to it for yourself. Superchao always puts so much effort into these sections, and we love how he's willing to talk for pages and pages about how much he loves the series. |
