The Telephone Room is a room in Area Four of the mansion in Luigi's Mansion and its remake. It is a relatively wide room. On the west wall there is a large cabinet in front of which is a small table and a small sofa. The middle of the room is empty except for a large chest on the north wall. Along the south wall there are three small rotary telephones, side-by-side. Finally, on the east wall, there is a cabinet, identical to the first, and two additional large chests. The wooden panels are more detailed in the remake, and a wooden crate and several objects can be seen on the back wall.<ref name=shadow>{{cite|url=www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMil-ql3U0I|title=Does Luigi Still "Hang" Himself in Luigi's Mansion 3DS? The Telephone Room (Japanese: 電話の部屋 Telephone Room) can first be accessed in Area Four of Luigi's Mansion in the game of the same name.

During the blackout, Luigi can answer a telephone call from a Toad and one from Professor E. Gadd. When Luigi answers the Toad's phone call, Toad will ask who is speaking. The player then has the option to choose either Luigi or Bowser. If he chooses Luigi, the conversation goes on as normal. However, if he chooses Bowser, Toad hangs up and calls one of the other three phones, then the same conversation commences, but without the choice of stating whether it is Luigi or Bowser answering the phone. The Telephone Room is the only room in the blackout where capturing the ghosts is required to leave.
Story
The door to the West Hallway on the Balcony will unseal itself as Luigi approaches it. Once he is close enough to the door, a bolt of lightning strikes the house, causing a blackout. Luigi can use his Key to open the door and proceed through the West Hallway. At the end of the hallway, he can choose to go east or west. Because the west door is locked, the plumber can only access the east one, winding up in the Telephone Room. Luigi receives a phone call from one of the Toads in the Mansion, informing him that the Toads have fled because of the blackout. The Toad also mentions a breaker in the Basement that can be used to turn the power back on. Once Luigi receives this information, the door to the Breaker Room will become locked. The next phone call Luigi receives is from Professor E. Gadd, who alerts him of a Portrait Ghost named Uncle Grimmly who is floating amok. To return power to the mansion, Luigi must capture Uncle Grimmly. After doing so, he can return to the Telephone Room, only to find that it is still dark. Opening some of the chests in the room, Luigi will awaken two Skeleton Ghosts and have to capture them, finally lighting the room.

When Luigi picks up the phone during the blackout, the player can see a displaced shadow that vaguely resembles Luigi hanging from a noose, though this can technically be seen at various points throughout the game when the camera zooms in on Luigi, such as when he is talking with a Toad or with E. Gadd over the Game Boy Horror, due to the shadow's location being dependent on the camera, which normally is constantly facing the same direction. The shadow does not return in the remake, which improves the shadow system and no longer relies on the camera facing a specific way to become rendered correctly.
Description
The Telephone Room is huge, quite possibly the largest room in the Mansion along with the Balcony and the Courtyard. As such, it is filled with quite a variety of objects. On the west wall there is a large cabinet in front of which is a small table and curiously, a small sofa. The middle of the room is empty except for a large chest on the north wall. Along the south wall there are three small rotary telephones, side-by-side. Finally, on the east wall, there is a cabinet, identical to the first, and two additional large chests.

Trivia
*When Luigi answers the Toad's phone call, Toad will ask who is speaking. The player then has the option to choose either Luigi or Bowser. If he chooses Luigi, the conversation goes on as normal. However, if he chooses Bowser, Toad will hang up and call one of the other three phones. Then, the same conversation will commence, this time without the option to state the player's identity.
*As shown in the picture above, when Luigi is talking to Toad or Professer E. Gadd, when lightning strikes, Luigi's shadow appears suspended in air, as if being hung by a noose. Whether it is a mistake by Nintendo or the Boo's message of Luigi's fate is unknown.
*One does not need to actually enter the Telephone Room after the blackout happens. It is entirely possible to merely walk to the Wardrobe Room, capture Uncle Grimmly, and turn on the lights, thus saving time and unwanted tangles with ghosts.
*This is the only indoor room with Skeleton Ghosts.
