They only appear in volcanic areas such as [[Grim Volcano]] and [[Ancient Foundry]], and emerge from magma and ceilings. They attack by firing out [[Black Fairy|Black Fairies]] that form into an [[Black Fairy#Gallery|attack]] flying toward [[Donkey Kong]]. If it hits him, he loses beats (a heart in the [[New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat|''New Play Control!'' version]]). Its attack can be repelled by using the [[Sound Wave Attack]] to damage the Tar Man; repeating this three to five times in a row will defeat it.
