Name[edit]

The name of the game is Mega Sledge Bro's Card Chaos and not Sledge Bro's Card Chaos. The boss is Mega Sledge Bro. acording to the game and not a normal Sledge Brother. Please someone change the name of it at here and at the main Mario Party 10 article, including it's gallery. That's weird. Here's at least another video where it clearly lacks the "Mega" in the name. This must be Nintendo of Europe up to their fascinating old/new tricks again (or Nintendo of America)... As for whether that's a "Mega" Sledge Bro or just a regular ol' one, I know that the Cheep Chomp was misnamed as Mega Cheep Chomp (バクバク), but Mega Monty Mole is pretty much spot on (巨大チョロプー). Addendum - looks like it's also Mega Cheep Chomp (巨大バクバク) in the Japanese version as well, which is also weird since the promotional image cuts this off... So it looks like the mini-bosses are probably intended to be separate from their species. In addition, if "Mega Sledge Bro's Card Chaos" is indeed the NTSC version, then we must enforce Naming. Move to "Sledge Bro's Card Chaos"[edit]

I missed out on the Mega Sledge Bro proposal, but one thing I suggested was to change the name of this article as well and prioritize NoE naming for Sledge Bro in Mario Party 10 since the NoA name is a one-off mistake. We already sort of have a non-proposal precedent for this: Boss P. Plant, NoA's one-off name for Petey Piranha that was corrected in the NoE version of Super Princess Peach. If we can do that, then I don't see why we can't do the same thing for Mega Sledge Bro. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:10, November 29, 2021 (EST)

As the person who made the aforementioned proposal, I’m on board! Somethingone (talk) 15:12, November 29, 2021 (EST)
On the one hand, it's a North American name, so we have to follow precedent. But on the other hand, conclusive evidence has suggested that the North American name is likely a mistake, so I'd be all for starting a proposal on the matter. I know we agreed that Mega Sledge Bro was just an erroneously designated Sledge Bro, but I don't see why that makes the name of the minigame itself bad. It's a perfectly usable in-game name, and keeping it is consistent with the rest of the wiki. Besides, it's not like we don't use the Mega Sledge Bro name elsewhere (Sledge Bro's Mario Party 10 history section consistently refers to it as Mega Sledge Bro), so I don't really see a reason to try to sweep it under the rug. (Honestly I couldn't help but think of the suggestion to use a foreign name for the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia's article just because we weren't using the English name as a source when I saw this. Gave me similar vibes.) --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Unless you think that the wiki's general use of alternate British English names as secondary to American English in effect an act of "sweeping it under the rug" - no, this is absolutely not the intent at all. Completely disregarding the fact that the okay-to-cite Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia has "ENCYCLOPEDIA SUPER MARIO BROS." in its big, bold, English-written cover (but I digress), we're talking about the same language here. Another example: Kamek in Mario Party 9, which already opens with "Kamek (referred to as Magikoopa in the American localization)" by the way, not the other way around. It is generally well-understood that the British English version more clearly identifies it as the character, whereas the American English version uses the name more commonly attributed to the species. In such cases, British English over American English simply allows for better consistency. I wouldn't think the source priority exception proposal requires a regional equivalent, but if it is so needed, so be it. LinkTheLefty (talk) 20:48, November 29, 2021 (EST)
The fact that the Japanese name explicitly says Mega Bros. means that the name is not a mistranslation as previously believed. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 10:44, April 13, 2023 (EDT)
