Name[edit]

Just like "yellow piece of the maze", this name feels much more like a generic description than an actual name. I think we should change it. S o m e t h i n g o n e ! Red Bandit.png 09:06, August 8, 2022 (EDT)

The internal name for the cross/clock part is "PoleGrabCeilExClockParts000", meanwhile the red bar itself is the same as the ones from earlier in the section, "PoleGrabCeil", among other related objects. Since the Prima guide on page 145 refers to the area as "a series of moving red bars" and the bar on the clock part is "a bar on the rotating contraptions" then goes on to mention just the bars, I think this can be easily renamed and expanded as "Bar (Super Mario Odyssey)" in general rather than letting it be a separate article. Can't we use Set of bars as it's called in a Prima guide? It's a fine name in my opinion, considering Nintendo used "of" while naming objects in the past (Suit of armor) Spectrogram (talk) 11:23, September 11, 2022 (EDT)
I'll move the page back if noone has any objections. Spectrogram (talk) 05:31, February 3, 2023 (EST)
I'd prefer we do it the way LTL suggested. S o m e t h i n g o n e ! Red Bandit.png 07:20, February 3, 2023 (EST)

An unrelated platform from Super Mario 64 already goes by this name[edit]

Model of a rotating bar from Super Mario 64.

The turning platforms built into the side of Tick Tock Clock in SM64 are referred to as "rotating bars" on page 113 in The Super Mario 64 Player's Guide, and since this is an attested name, I think it should be given priority for its use over a conjecturally-applied title for a different object. Should the current topic of this article be moved to a "Rotating bar (Super Mario Odyssey)" or be given a different name entirely? Thoughts? - Nintendo101 (talk) 20:07, December 15, 2023 (EST)

Justice for the iconic Super Mario 63 platform! In all seriousness, the conjecture one should be moved. I'd probably go with "bar carousel," myself. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:42, December 15, 2023 (EST)
What's wrong with "Set of bars", a name from the Prima Guide? Axis (talk) 01:34, December 16, 2023 (EST)
Well, if you're like me, the problem with that name is that I started this section without reading the previous one first. My apologies :) Is "set of bars" the only name applied to this object in the SMO guide? It's not very descriptive. And if not, could it not be lumped with a greater "bar (Super Mario Odyssey)" article that LinkTheLefty suggested? Otherwise, I think it's fine. The main purpose is to reestablish "rotating bar" for the SM64 object. - Nintendo101 (talk) 20:54, December 30, 2023 (EST)
So, from the Shogakukan encyclopedia, the "nails" from Super Mario Galaxy are referred to as 鉄棒 or "horizontal bar", and they function/look the same way as the bars in Super Mario Odyssey. I think they're definitely suppose to be the same thing. Is it possible we can move the info here into that article, and maybe expand it to include the bars not attached to the rotating gizmo? - Nintendo101 (talk) 15:33, February 4, 2024 (EST)

The horizontal bars from the Mario vs. Donkey Kong games could also likely count as the same object and might also be worth moving to "Nail" (which should probably be renamed to "Bar" as the most recent name for these things in the Super Mario Odyssey guides [and a more accurate interpretation of what this thing is, as it most definitely is not suppose to be a nail], though "Bar" currently redirects to "Rope", so a wider discussion may be warranted). - Nintendo101 (talk) 16:08, February 4, 2024 (EST)
