Putrid Piranha[edit]
I'd like anyone who can to get the Shogakukan guide for this game so we can get a name for this enemy in Japanese, and see how it compares to Putrid Piranha. If it's the same, a merge may be in order. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:25, 27 October 2017 (EDT)
- There is such a thing as being overzealous with merging, and one name from one guide should not be the deciding factor. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 01:06, 27 October 2017 (EDT)
- What's less viable about this (if the JP name is the same) that two completely-different species of moles with different appearances and official names? Besides, The original Putrid Piranhas were just large, forward-facing regular-colored Piranhas. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:14, 27 October 2017 (EDT)
- That situation is more complex than you're making it seem, and using it to justify this is shaky at best. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 01:30, 27 October 2017 (EDT)
- All I see is a lot of arbitrary bases. Either way, that's not the point of this discussion; the point is that we need to find out what this thing's Japanese name is, so a proposal can potentially be made if they happen to be the same. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:32, 27 October 2017 (EDT)
- Considering how your first comment concludes that merging the pages may be necessary, I don't see how it isn't relevant. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 01:36, 27 October 2017 (EDT)
- I'm saying we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:37, 27 October 2017 (EDT)
- And see, now we can see they have different names. So there won't be a proposal. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:35, 30 October 2017 (EDT)

Both piranha plants are based on the same idea: "Poisonous Piranha Plants."
They have the same Japanese name that indicates that they are the same.
Their biggest difference is that while a poison is liquid, the other is gaseous, but it's very minimal.
Finally, people use Viridi's dialogue in Smash as an argument, the same one who considers Petey a species? No thanks.

- Nintendo101 (talk) Though similar, these are different enemies, with different names from the people who created them, that have different means of attack, and were created by different studios over a decade apart from another. We would need Nintendo themselves to explicitly assert that Putrid Piranhas and Poison Piranha Plants are the same thing, similar to Frost Piranhas, but they have not done so in every opportunity given, including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door on the Nintendo Switch, or Mario Portal, which is where Ice Piranha Plants in New Super Mario Bros. U were explicitly called "Frost Piranhas." In Ultimate, a first-party Nintendo game, they explicitly asserted to be two different subjects in the dialogue written for Viridi, whether you personally think that is valid or not. At this point, I think lumping them together would be wishcasting, rather than a reflection of what has been relayed in this media. Putrid Piranhas and Poison Piranha Plants are not the same ontological subjects.

Poison Comments[edit]
@Nintendo101 You know, I made this proposal inspired by the Shark Chomp situation, which is the same. I would really like you to take a look at it, because the only reason I made this proposal was for that case.Sorbetti (talk) 10:28, April 4, 2025 (EDT)
Addendum (proposal was canceled before I could comment[edit]
Stating they have the same Japanese name is also false, because one is "Poison" (English word adapted to Japanese) and the other is "Doku" (Japanese word). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 10:49, April 4, 2025 (EDT)
